The home was clean, and the owner communicated promptly throughout our stay. My biggest advice is to read the listing very carefully. I overlooked that the rental is based on the number of guests rather than simply renting the entire home, which resulted in an unexpected added cost. That was my oversight, as it is disclosed in the listing. That said, the repeated conversations leading up to our stay about the guest count felt uncomfortable. As responsible guests, it felt like our honesty was being questioned over what was simply a misunderstanding.Once we arrived, we found an extensive binder of house rules and reminders throughout the home. Combined with the exterior cameras, it created an atmosphere where we felt like we were walking on eggshells instead of relaxing. We also found ants in one of the bathrooms.Colonial Beach is a quaint, quiet town, although there isn't a lot to do. The owner recommended jellyfish sting spray, which was a thoughtful suggestion, though we still got stung; that's simply part of the area, not a reflection of the property.Overall, we enjoyed spending time with our friends, but the strict atmosphere and focus on guest counts made this stay feel less relaxing than we had hoped. Future guests should be sure to read the listing carefully so there are no surprises.
