One of three places to stay at The Outpost, our favorite private master suite is nestled away on the outskirts of downtown Berryville, VA and carefully curated with the finest fixtures, furnishings, and finishes to make your getaway as comfortable as a luxury hotel. Every piece of furniture has been hand selected or hand made along with the hotel quality Frette bedding and linens. This king bedroom comes with a kitchenette, hot plate, board games, yoga mats, and even a table setting for 6.

We left early

The place was not clean. We saw bugs in the bathroom. There was dirt on the bed, stains on the comforter, dirt/crumbs on the rug, and random unknown items under the heater. Overall the place left much to be desired with the lack of cleanliness. Some of the furniture wasn't the same. We recommend staying here. We stayed for about an half an hour before leaving and returning home.

This is an attractive, comfortable accomodation with an authentic country feel, although it is only 5 minutes from Berryville's main street shopping. Prospective guests should know that there is no TV (probably intentional). That was fine with us. The only deficiencies were minor: no creamer or real sugar provided with the coffee service and ridiculously weak lightbulbs in the lamps (again, maybe intentional). Otherwise, we thoroughly enjoyed it.

Nice place. We rented unit 3 which is a bedroom and bathroom on the far end of the house. We arrived late in the afternoon and discovered that the place was not cleaned or serviced since the last guest checked out. After finally reaching Renee the out of town property manager she wasn’t even aware of our reservation. After confirming she offered to put us up in another place but we decided to come back the next day after the place was cleaned. She gave us a free night for our troubles.

Quaint but…

The property includes three separate units within one house, and we experienced several issues during our stay. We arrived at night and found no lights to guide us, making it difficult to locate where we were staying. The main house door was unlocked, and the back door was wide open, which raised concerns about security. Assuming the main house was our accommodation, we entered and walked through it. However, with the back door open, we were worried someone might be inside who shouldn’t be.Eventually, we discovered our suite at the rear of the house, which was also unlocked. The outside lights were burned out, adding to the confusion. While the interior of both the main house and our suite was lovely, the lack of security was troubling. Even when we locked the door, it would unlock itself within minutes, which was unsettling.Our suite had no thermostat to control the heat—only a space heater in the bathroom. The main thermostat was located in the main house, which we couldn’t access. Additionally, the deck and stairs had no railings, posing a safety risk.Another odd requirement was to strip the beds before leaving, which felt unusual and unexpected.Overall, while the property was visually appealing, the lack of security, safety features, and clear guidance significantly detracted from the experience.

Do not walk, run from this rental!

First we found it strange that you enter into this unit through the bathroom. It is up a laneway behind a house and backs onto a subdivision. The “kitchenette” was not very clean with some leftover packages of food in drawer from previous guests and no microwave. It was a warm day when we arrived and the heat was on full blast and was controlled from another unit. It continued to blast heat for our whole visit. We were to stay for 3 nights and the first night was fine as there were no guests in the suite beside us. The second afternoon a party of around 10 people arrived to the suite that is attached. They were there to party and proceeded to get drunk and party very very loudly. We could hear everything clearly as if they were in the same room as us. The door separating the 2 suites was apparently not locked on their side and they repeatedly tried to open the door to enter our suite. We contacted the manager by email and they said unfortunately the walls are very thin and they would ask them to keep it down. They did not keep it down and knocked on our entry door at one point. As a result of this, we did not sleep and had to cut our vacation short and leave the next morning as we knew this would continue throughout the weekend. We were very disappointed as we had planned this getaway months before and travelled from Canada to the area to attend a conference. We had to miss the last day of the conference and fly home early. I emailed the manager to tell her we were leaving and got no response and continued to email her many times over the next 3 days and no response. I contact d vrbo to request a refund of the final night and they could not get a response either. Finally 3 days later, she responded saying she was waiting to hear back from the owner and would issue a refund for the final night. No apology for what happened. Why would you rent the adjoining suite to a large party knowing that the walls are paper thin??

We are sorry that you had an unpleasant experience. We try to be clear in out=r descriptions of all properties that there are adjoining suites, which could be occupied at any given time. The adjoining suite sleeps up to 14 people, so in general, only large parties tend to request that suite.

Chic, well-decorated room in Berryville

The room was very well decorated, with an upgraded rustic decor, blending old and new beautifully. The claw foot tub was stunning, the upgraded shower felt luxurious, and the bed was very comfortable. The room was well stocked with items in the red dresser, from wine openers to plates. The location was walking distance to downtown Berryville, with great local coffee spots. The place could have been a little cleaner - we had to get dish soap to wash the dishes and one of the face towels set out was dirty and stained with make up. The deck is great for gathering - views include both cows and the back of neighboring suburban houses. Some of the rooms might be accessible, but room 3 was not (for elderly) - there is no handrail for the deck or step and the cobblestone would be tricky for a roller or wheelchair. Finally, privacy was a little tricky with kids trying to open the door at one point, but locks prevented that! Though there is a separate entrance, it is a shared room of a house. Overall a wonderful spot.

Family Event

We had Suite 3, but family had reserved the various parts of the property for an event. It was perfect. The décor was so interesting, homey and historical with botanical prints. The huge deck and common areas were perfect for sharing time. We had a nice time on a bike ride. The Outpost is set behind a house and barn, so finding it in the beginning was hard. I would definitely return!

Extremely comfy suite

The suite was very comfortable and cozy. We really enjoyed our stay. The location was convenient for our activities around the area. We love the Locke Store, The Buttery, and Cordial coffee!
