A sweet gem!
My husband and I are hikers and were up in the Northeast Kingdom to finish Division 12 of the Long Trail. Millrace House was a great location for us--not too far from Jay Peak for most of our hiking and so relaxing when we weren't on our feet. On one of our days off of hiking, we also explored Newport, which was literally right down the road. It was great. We also had a rainy day during our stay and were content hanging out with the games and books indoors, but Jeanne gave us a fantastic suggestion to check out the Museum of Everyday Life in Glover. We headed out for a drive and were not disappointed. It was so fun!
Jeanne was a great host, even offering us some fresh corn from her garden. It was a lovely and delicious treat.
We truly hope to go back. We hike, bike and explore the great outdoors a lot and we love northern Vermont. We highly recommend Millrace House!
We loved our stay at the Millrace house, the house is wonderful - a very old house yet fresh, light-filled (still amazed at the use of skylights and interior windows to push the light in) in an incredible layered garden nestled on a stretch of water below a picturesque waterfall. Beds comfortable, kitchen well-appointed, water pressure aces, and while we didn’t avail ourselves of this, the owners offered to us organic produce from their garden. A great jumping off place for us to bike the trail from Newport to and into Beebe, Quebec, attend the Bread and Puppet Theater, and kayak the South Bay of Lake Memphremagog. We spent Sunday morning reading in chairs down by the river and our blood pressure just fell, it was so relaxing. Jeanne and John were available yet not intrusive at all. A great stay!
Cannot say enough!
Thank you John and Jeanne. I don't even know where to begin. We loved everything about our stay. You both are so amazing. What a special treat to pick from your garden to experiencing the river. We also loved the neat talks! We will have fond memories of this trip and we will be back. God Bless you both. Love, Tracy, Ronda, Anna, Sidney, and Seth
We’ll be back.
We truly enjoyed our stay at the Millrace House! The ambiance of this lovely little cottage nestled in the most fabulous gardens was so comfortable and restive. The river and the fabulous waterfall were incredible. The cottage itself was cozy but spacious and tastefully decorated with authentic antiques while offering every modern convenience. The location was very convenient to all the venues in Newport. Thank you Jeanne and John, we’ll be back!
The house in Coventry is exactly as advertised (no surprise that the photos are so accurate, since one of the owners is a photographer). The house itself is exquisite, and the yard reflects the loving work that goes into it. Coventry is a good spot from which to explore the area, including nearby Canada, but the house and deck also are lovely places just to sit and read or bird-watch. John and Jeanne are the perfect hosts. We look forward to returning.
