The well-appointed Captain Lawrence E. Johnson House is available for weekly rentals during the summer season and two-night-minimum stays in the off-season. The house is also available year-round for retreats, reunions, and special events.

Operated as Maine Island Getaway, with additional photos, seasonal notes, and property details available at maineislandgetaway.com, this luxury island home on Bailey Island offers beautiful water views from nearly every room, framed by working harbors and the timeless calm of island life. While the house is not directly on the shoreline, it sits in a village-like setting with spacious private decks and yards, along with nearby water access for swimming and boat launching.

The home features four luxury bedrooms with flexible accommodations, each with an en-suite bathroom, a modern professional kitchen, generous dining and comfortable living spaces, and a fully equipped media room. Guests enjoy high-speed fiber-optic internet—fast, reliable, and ideal for remote work or streaming, as well as energy-efficient central heating and air conditioning in all bedrooms.

Furnished with art and antiques that quietly set the tone of a true captain’s home, the house is authentic, functional, and quietly refined—every detail considered, every choice rooted in place.

Enjoy all that Bailey Island and neighboring Orr's Island have to offer: exceptionally fresh lobster, an easy walk to secluded Cedar Beach, hikes to the dramatic Giant’s Stairs, kayak rentals just over the Cribstone Bridge at H2O Outfitters, or fishing and sailing charters with experienced local skippers.

Another amazing vacation on Bailey Island in this perfect house (the driveway is a bit tricky but very doable). We love that there’s so much to do right on the island like fishing, beach combing… and yet you aren’t far from shopping and other attractions. The house is ideal for our large extended family and there is plenty of space for games, puzzles, tv, crochet… Brett, as always, was prompt in communications and a pleasure to deal with. We are already looking forward to next year!

Wonderful house for sisters and husbands, children and grandchildren to stay all together. Plenty of space for 11. Spent long hours on the wonderful wraparound deck. Very comfortable beds and bathrooms

The house was lovely and well suited for our group of 11. The kitchen is well stocked with everything you need to make meals. We loved cooking and eating fresh lobster! My kids enjoyed having a tv in their own room. Bailey Island is an amazing place to explore - especially the Giant Stairs and walking to the water at different times of day. We also day tripped to Acadia, explored Boothbay Harbor, and loved Brunswick.

The house and property are better than advertised, since the pictures don't fully do it justice. We're a family of 6 and everyone had an amazing time. The house is beautiful, especially the kitchen and dining area. The bedrooms are all comfy cozy, and it's amazing that they all have their own bathrooms. 10/10 would recommend!

A fabulous property rental for our large and active family. The owner was responsive to our questions and needs. The running joke of the week of you couldn’t find something you needed was that you just weren’t looking hard enough. The house has absolutely everything.

Wonderful week on Bailey Island

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and highly recommend it to anyone considering coming to Bailey Island. There were ten in our family from age 4 to 72 and everyone loved the house and all the amenities it provided. The wonderful furnishings are warm and comfortable and the house has so much space to spread out yet the living and dining area is large enough everyone could be together when we wanted to. And if you love to cook, you are really going to love the kitchen. We did use it but also went to many of the great restaurants nearby. There is a lot to see in the area but this is also a nice place to simply relax and enjoy the clean Maine air.

Great stay

Terrific location and wonderful open concept down stairs. Owner is very responsive. Locations is terrrific in terms of proximity to restaurants, Cedar Beach, and walks along the cribstone. Great sunsets from the rooftop patio and deck. Overall a great Bailey Island vacation home.

My family of 5 loved the opportunity to spend 4 nights in this beautiful home. The setting is gorgeous with views galore. The house had everything we needed to keep our 3 kids happy and comfortable. The island and neighboring area was perfect for outdoor activities. We would love to return again.

A beautiful family getaway!

What an outstanding host and property. We vacation as a family every year, all over the east coast, and this home rates at the top. The bedrooms each had a bathroom-the kitchen was equipped for a chef-the outdoor areas were so beautiful (including awakening each day to the birds!)-and the home was decorated to make you feel at home. The host has a wonderful home and we’re so welcoming. Thank you!

Beautiful home!

We very much enjoyed our stay on Bailey Island. Slept with open windows and sea breezes which is very different than living in Florida. Ate as much lobster as we could! House had all the amenities you could ask for. Highly recommend!

Beautifully appointed, comfortable, and spacious, this house was perfect for two families (4 adults, 4 teens). We loved the gourmet kitchen and hosted dinner parties almost every night. Thank you, Brett and family for sharing your home with us!

Comfortable

Great house very comfortable and well appointed. Very roomy for our entire family. Nice to have en suite bathrooms with all the bedrooms. The host was very good with communication. Located on a busy road and the driveway is on a curve which made it a little challenging entering and exiting the property.

A Great Property for Vacation

Our entire group of seven was delighted with the house and location! We cooked most evenings and loved having dinner every night on the expansive porch with beautiful views. The interior is spacious and comfortable with a very well equipped kitchen. The driveway is a little tricky but definitely manageable with the windows down to hear vehicles approaching when you're pulling out. We would absolutely rent again. Thank you Brett and Family for a lovely week with many happy memories!

The home was lovely and the location was remote and quiet. There are some maintenance issues that need to be addressed such as the leaking ceiling and the bushes that block the visibility of the road when leaving the drive.

Best gathering spot

This house is simply beautiful. All the fun nautical decor and tasteful furnishings were enjoyed by everyone. Everyone had their own space yet, there were many areas to allow a large group to gather. The long outdoor table was full every night for dinner. Close to the beach and scenic hikes. Perfect for our grandchildren to enjoy each other in the large playroom downstairs. Awesome vacation, thank you!

My family had a great time in this beautiful house. The kitchen was amazingly stocked with everything you could need as a chef. The setup on the deck was perfect for cooking lobsters and having an outdoor dinner. Each bedroom had its own air conditioning which was wonderful for each guest. The kids were so excited about watching the fireworks on the rooftop deck which did not disappoint!! The house is in walking distance to some local restaurants and strolls on the cribstone bridge. Lovely stay on Bailey Island.

Our family has carefully preserved this historic property, which has been home to three generations of Johnsons, including Captain Larry and Eileen Johnson, and their son, Captain Jeff Johnson. Larry and Jeff were proud sea captains who made their living on the water, while Eileen was a talented cook and restaurant owner, known for her hospitality and heartwarming meals.

This home is managed by Brett Johnson, with the help of Sister Cathy Silva, Brother Chris Johnson, and all of our spouses and children who pitch in to make your stay unforgettable. Every corner of the house reflects our dedication to honoring its legacy while offering modern comforts to create a welcoming space for your family to enjoy.

Our family’s connection to Bailey Island is deep, and the next generations are proud to continue this legacy of sharing our home with others.
