The name Cahuilla means “rulers” or “powerful ones” and presumably comes from the Spanish interpretation of Kawíka, meaning “mountain-ward.” Cahuilla was the name given to the local native-american tribes whose Idyllic lifestyle and legacy in the area go back thousands of years. We encourage guests to visit the history museum and art studios in downtown La Quinta for more local Arts and Culture!
