Overall, we loved the property. The beach was amazing and by far the best we have ever had right in our backyard!! The swimming was perfect too with a nice sandy bottom. We had a few hiccups with appliances that may need to be updated but nothing that really impacted the vacation. The decks were amazing with a cool breeze all day long and sunshine if you wanted it! The Great Room did get warm without A/C despite the cross breezes and fans. We tried to avoid cooking in that room because it made it extra warm. The rest of the house stayed cool with A/c however. The house is spacious and has a lot of character. Very accurate to the listing!We had a great week!

Thank you for the kind words. I do appreciate your communication on the issue with one of the two dishwashers in the Great Room. Both of those dishwashers are only 15 days old. We had just replaced our 4 year old dishwashers with these brand new units after we had sporadic break downs with the previous GE dishwashers. Past problems were mostly due to chipped dishes and debris getting into the pumps. I trust you used the operational unit during your stay. We have the repair technician coming on August 19th from the local appliance store. I wish I would have known about the temperatures of the Great Room. We leave the windows in Great Room open overnight to capture the low temps off the lake. Lows get down into the 60's and that lowers temps in thete when the daytime temps get up to the upper 70's.

The property was just as advertised with more than enough room for our group of 5 families. Many memories made and laughs had. The house had everything we needed. Check in and out was easy. A few weeks before our stay the hosts sent an email with everything to expect. (Keep an eye out for it, I missed it originally!) It was appreciated, but also very lengthy, and at times we weren’t sure if we were breaking a rule not! Don’t fret, a lot of the information was common sense type things that any respectful adult staying in another’s property should be doing! The owner let us know up front that there were a few issues with the property from prior occupants, mainly a lot of flies in the kitchen. Nothing we couldn’t deal with as most of our time was spent enjoying the outdoors. We would absolutely come back to this property and highly recommend it.

Thanks for your kind words. Sorry about flies the prior guests let in. They must have had doors open constantly. I trust the extra time I kept the cleaning staff on duty to swat flies, and the fly strips they hung up were a help. Hope to host you again. John

Excellent stay for a large group

We had a family group stay for a week. The house had plenty of space and the beach is wonderful. The only downside is it might be a bit distant from places to eat so you will need to be doing your own cooking.

The property was perfect. The house had lots of space carved out for small groups and everyone together. The shear number of full bathrooms was so nice, however water pressure was an ongoing issue.

Family retreat

We had a wonderful time staying at this property. There was plenty of space to spread out and activities for all ages. The beach was amazing. The kayaks were a big hit and the water was shallow for quite a distance. This vacation was full of happy surprises.

Memorial Day Getaway

During Memorial Day weekend, we decided to rent out this property! The location of this property was private and peaceful, located right on the lakefront, providing incredible views. The property was spacious and clean. The host was very helpful and kind! Looking forward to renting this great property again!

Get away from it all!

Beautiful and well-equipped home to enjoy the water at! Our group of 17 lives just hanging out together outside—volleyball, kayaks, walks along the beach, etc. Great space to hang out inside the home too!

Great VRBO experience!

We had a great stay with my family and extended family, a total of 26 people, in June! The house was spacious, the property had tons of amenities (we loved the vball court and the kayaks), and the beach and lake were perfect for our adults and our 12 littles (ages 3-9)! John was easy to communicate with and the whole process was pretty seamless! Thanks for a great stay... We've recommended and shared your listing with friends!

The First Light Beach House was an excellent choice for our extended family of 20 people to gather for a week and enjoy each other's company. We were able to spend a week living and playing together in "God's country" without feeling crowded or bored. We utilized nearly every amenity this property had to offer. We kayaked around the bay, walked along the shoreline collecting shells and beach glass, sat on the decks enjoying the sunrise and the moonrise, grilled and griddled on the back deck, played tons of games and built several puzzles in the Great Room, and chilled out in the air-conditioned TV room in the main house. Bedrooms were clean and homey with lots of room for kids and couples upstairs. The very roomy master bedroom on the 1st floor with its own bathroom was ideal for Grandma & Grandpa to have some privacy and avoid frequent climbing of the stairs. The Great Room (it's bigger than you think!) provided ample seating space for mealtime and gametime, either in large groups or small clusters. Plenty of bathroom/showering options, so even with 6 teenagers present, we never had a line for the bathroom or ran out of hot water. Having 2 kitchens/refrigerators was great for food storage and prep, so we stocked up before arrival and didn't have to drive 25 minutes to the grocery store every day. John, our main host, was extremely communicative both before and during our stay, so we knew exactly what to expect and what was expected of us in return. Thanks for a great week!

Wonderful property!

This was an amazing property for our extended family’s vacation! There were five families with ages ranging from 9 to 81 and everyone had a great time. The great room could accommodate all of us for games, puzzles, preparing and eating meals, and just hanging out. There are also plenty of rooms in this home so we never felt cramped or crowded at all. The beach right outside the front door was definitely a bonus and there was a very large area that was fairly shallow for the kids to swim safely. This is a perfect home if you are looking to enjoy sunrises, sunsets, fires in the evening and just relaxing. Would highly recommend!

Family gathering

Our family of nineteen spent five wonderful days at First Light Beach House. From check-in to exit, communication with the owner was excellent. The spacious accommodations made our stay very enjoyable for everyone. The property was spotlessly clean. It is completely furnished and stocked for every situation or desire. There are so many places to gather for group conversations as well. Our family enjoyed swimming, walking the beach, playing bean bag toss, volleyball, board games, cooking meals on the grills, and watching the moon come up while making s’mores during evening campfires. We absolutely loved First Light Beach House and hope to return in 2024

Perfect Spot for Large Family Gathering

Rented this home for a 70th Birthday gathering for my mom and all her kids and grandkids. It was the perfect spot and was plenty of room for our group of 8 adults and 8 kids. My whole family agreed that it would have been hard to find a better place for our event and all of us would rent it again in heartbeat. I'll bullet point some highlights: - Beautiful lake views - Plenty of room for our large group - Grand room was amazing and kitchen areas were more than accommodating to prepare large meals. - Great communication with owner - Excellent beach with soft sand and clear water - Fun to be able to use the kayaks. - Clean rooms and beds If you have little ones and are looking to rent this property, here are a couple things to keep in mind - these are in no way a detraction, just a couple things to keep in mind: - Sunrise is super early during summer months, so you might want to bring extra blackout curtains to hang up over a couple of the bedroom windows that face East. - Bedroom floors were carpeted or wood, but floors in main grand room are hard so if you have infants, be sure to bring some soft blankets or mats for them to crawl/lay on. Loved staying here, would highly recommend.

First Light Beach House is a wonderful place. Our large family had a great time - the beach was great, lots of fun kayaking & playing in the sand. We met friendly neighbors as we walked the beach. Our group really enjoyed the sand volleyball (do be warned, as John says, there can be sharp objects in the sand). We often used the fire pit too. The house was awesome! The pictures don't do it credit. The bedrooms were comfortable, plenty of showers & bathrooms. The Great Room was the perfect place with plenty of room for us all to be together while still doing our own things. I've rented often but have never seen a kitchen so we'll equipped! It had everything! And the name is fitting - we did wake up to see that 'first light' . Beautiful sunrises worth the effort. John gave us plenty of info & was easy to communicate with. We had a great week!

We enjoyed the property and had plenty of room for the 13 of us that stayed. We did not use all of the beds available as our number was a bit smaller than we expected. However, had we needed to use more of the bunk beds, railings on the top bunks would be a good addition. The two kitchens were great as we cooked all meals at the house. It is a nice location for exploring the area. We made good use of the kayaks and the beach. The owner provides a lot of information concerning the use of the property. Pay attention to that information, especially concerning possible debris in the sand where the volleyball net is set up. Overall, a very enjoyable stay, with lots of room to spread out.

Wonderful setting, super amount of space for large groups, and plenty of amenities for all to enjoy. Kitchens are well stocked with all needed cooking utensils, pots, and pans.Gas grill and flattop were great. We only used flattop.You would have to work to not have a great time.

Spacious, beautiful place on the water

We had a large group (12 adults and 12 kids - all under 6). Plenty of space and things to do for everyone. We stayed on the property the whole time (except for some kayak rides) and didn’t feel trapped or cramped at all. The water and sky were different every day and beautiful. We saw two rainbows and regularly woke up to see the sunrises. The evening skies were incredible. The great room is massive and where we spent a lot of our time and ate all of our meals; it held us all comfortably with a lot of extra space. We enjoyed the fire pit in the sand, the sand volleyball court, the large beachfront, the main deck, the two refrigerators, the flattop grill, and all the games and books. John was an excellent host, fielding our questions quickly and even making sure there was enough at the place for the kids. A couple of the days, the water and sky had more of a Florida/Hawaii feel than a Midwest feel. For our stay, the water was ice cold and the biting flies were everywhere, but neither of those things made anyone say they wouldn’t want to go back. That’s how much we enjoyed everything else. We ate in all but one night and got pizza at Jozwiak’s Bar & Grill that night. Highly recommended. Some of us are foodies with a love for Chicago pizza, and it measures up. About 20 min from the place on your way in, but worth the drive (if you don’t catch it on the way). Several of us expressed a desire to come back (even though it’s quite a trip from where a lot of us live), and some even expressed an interest in buying the place (not that it’s for sale!). Just shows how good of a time we had there. It’s wonderful.

Mesmerizing vacation.

This property is amazing. Starting from mesmerizing lake views and sandy beach right outside the house to enormous living/family room with open plan. We went with the group of 5 families with kids, and had plenty of room for everyone. Everybody had lots of fun inside and outside the house. We took many amazing pictures and left with even more great memories. I will definitely recommend this property for your next vacation. Host is very organized and very helpful
