Perfect quiet spot with great view!
We really enjoyed this rental - beautiful view of the cove, ocean, and distant mountains, quiet neighborhood away from the main road. It’s a 15 min walk to town so renting bikes was a great way to get around on Utila including to and from our scuba lessons and to Neptunes boat when we had a day off!
The hosts and property managers were so helpful, from answering all of our questions to arranging pickup and drop off. They connected us to everything we needed including bicycle rentals, a tuk tuk driver, great recommendations, beach towels and ice packs, and some delicious oatmeal bread that Georgean baked and dropped by one day!
The apartment is the perfect size for two and had what we needed. If something was missing, we asked and it arrived if available!
We loved the outdoor shower, chairs, and screened in area when sand flies came out (they are famed on the island but mostly avoidable if you bring DEET and are careful early in the day and late afternoons). There’s lines and a rack to dry wet towels and suits. We sometimes opened the sliders to the screened porch so we could drift off to sleep hearing the waves!!
The cove does have decent snorkeling when the waves are mellow but it’s tough to get in at the house (reef shoes are a MUST - you can walk out then put your flippers on over them). I chose to enter from the pretty new park beach a few doors down to avoid walking on the coral - if Mark or Juan are there you can give them 10 Lempira to help care for it and they will tell you where to swim. Note that this side of the island seems to attract plastic - you can do your part and pick up a few bits for the environment - this does not detract from the natural beauty or magic of Utila.
Got a peek at the upstairs apartment- gorgeous! Will ask to rent it too when we come back with family.
