A gem on the Mendocino coast
We're almost hesitant to write this review because we want to keep this place our hidden secret. But our stay at the Getchell Cottage was a fantastic and memorable experience! We were a bit hesitant at first when there were no reviews posted for the rental but we soon found out that the property has hosted many happy guests as were seen in the guest book and online reviews that were wiped due to administrative changes. The home is nestled at the foot of the hills right above the coast on over 10 acres. There are gorgeous views of the surrounding landscape including the beach, various trees and plants, many fruit trees and a seasonal creek. The cottage has been recently renovated with modern, high end appliances and features making it a comfortable stay. The place is very clean with a large bed in the bedroom and pull out sofa bed in the living room (the pull out sofa was surprisingly comfortable too). The wood stove also makes it feel very cozy. The owners were quite thoughtful to include toiletries, endless fresh towels, eggs from their chickens, an extensive spice rack, teas/coffee and so much more. We have an older child and a baby and there were many accommodations for them including baby shampoo, toys, books, a high chair and a pack and play. What made it more special was when we got a tour of the property and saw the early construction of an orchard, fruits and vegetables that we could sample and two tree swings. It's a sizable property to take strolls throughout the day (don't miss the swing with amazing views!) We cooked many times during our stay and the kitchen is fully equipped and there's a propane BBQ in the back; the owners have definitely thought of everything! Gualala is a beautiful town to get away and move at a slower pace and only a 5 minute drive away. There are also plenty of beaches nearby to explore as well. It was a perfect getaway for a long weekend.
