Multi family getaway

This was a perfect place to stay for my grown children and their families. It was nice to have separate areas but still all be together. Our only disappointment was the lake was so large and it was so windy we couldn’t enjoy the lake as much as we wanted.

Great Place to Stay

We rented both sides of this cabin for a 3-day stay while in town for business. The place was perfect for our needs. Grand Rapids had a huge storm the night before our trip with downed trees and power outages. Dan the owner did a great job of communicating what was going before our arrival and during our stay. I wouldnt hesitate to return to this property with my family as well. Would be a great place for kids. Huge deck, great view, level lot, great shoreline, and lots of places to sleep with the loft. Slice of heaven on Pokegama Lake

Absolutely amazing experience with my family in a gorgeous setting close to town. The view was incredible and the elevation was wonderful. The accommodations were perfect, especially the large deck area. Thanks to Dan and Patty for their hospitality and attention to detail. Highly recommend!

Lake Pokegama 2021

The cabins had everything we needed & more. They were very welcoming & had more personal touches than most other VRBO’s we’ve stayed at - rugs at the entrance & on the bathroom floor. Comfortable beds & a huge deck facing the lake. The view was gorgeous from inside & outside. Dan & Patty were very accommodating & also had additional items for rent- pontoon, raft, lily pad, etc. We had a wonderful stay!

Great Family Fun

We had a great time at this lakefront property. We enjoyed having the two side by side units so we could spend time with our extended family in comfort. We spent a lot of time on the deck enjoying the view and loved that we could play, kayak and swim right out the back door. We had a terrific weekend!

Not Worth the Price

For the price, the building lacks many of the amenities and basic supplies that other VRBO rentals provide. For example, the owners provide no hand soap (in the middle of a pandemic), no toilet paper, no bath towels, no coffee filters, no dishwasher soap, etc. Despite the signs everywhere to keep the place clean, the kitchen had one hand towel and lacked cleaning supplies. The beds are below average. The TV/internet worked great. And view of the lake and the location were also great. The owners stopped by twice, unannounced, not to check if everything was satisfactory but to lecture. Once, the owner showed up at the back door and reminded us to keep the back door closed. On another occasion, the own told us to let them know if the toilet/septic system was "gurgling," as apparently they had been having issues with it. Pay attention to the cancellation policy before booking. We tried to postpone our reservation because of COVID, but the owner would only rollover half the funds we paid to a new reservation (despite over 30 days' notice). And even then, the owner would only allow us to book Saturday to Saturday (7 nights), which doesn't work when the point of the visit is for an even on the weekend. Overall, there are many better options on VRBO in the area.

Relax, play, enjoy

Our visit was three families, grandma, grandpa, mom/dad x2, cousins x6. We all really enjoyed our visit. One positive thing to note is that there is a sandbar that extends quite far into the lake. The owners left a map of the lake in the welcome kit, showing the topography under the water. It was very interesting. This gave me confidence to swim very far because I could really see the bottom. My husband followed me in the kayak of course, and I've never swam that far in any body of water. It was exciting and I felt very strong and confident. We enjoyed the campfire. We really liked the long table and could all eat together without feeling squished. Ours was a big group so we used both sides of the cabin. We kept our eating to the big cabin and used the table in the other kitchen for games. The boys really liked "their" house and made their beds every day. They thought the blankets were very beautiful and fluffy, and even combed them to bring out the shine. They DO NOT do this at home. I think it was the positive influence of the property.

Best Lake Shore EVER!

This property is amazing! The location on the lake is ideal and the lake shore could not be better.....pure hard sand and level elevation is a tough combo to find. So glad there were no stairs to get to the lake. The cabin is so close to the water that we were able to still be part of the group while the kids napped.I Our family really enjoyed the privacy of our own space. This was our first time to Pokegama and we realize now that not all lakes are the same. We had a blast fishing, tubing, kayaking and exploring the many islands, beaches, and restaurants. We plan on coming back next year!

Incredible Property!!! Everything was perfect!

Everything was amazing!!!! The building has a terrific layout, it is really like having 2 cabins for the price of one. We stayed in this building with another family and were pleasantly surprised to find we each had our own private space. What a great value!!! You would be hard pressed to find better lake shore....level, hard sand, amazing views, and crystal clear water. I would highly recommend this place. We had a blast!!

Awesome cabin for a family!

If you are looking for a cozy cabin by the lake with a GREAT person to rent from, this is the one! Whenever we stayed at this cabin, we were up in Grand Rapids doing a job that last 6 weeks. Dan had already closed the cabin down for the winter, but reopened to allow us a nice place to stay at an affordable price. The coffee pot was missing and whenever we ran to town and came back, he had one sitting on the counter. After the first nights stay we noticed the microwave was missing as well. I sent Dan a text and had a microwave a couple days later when he made it back into town. He worked with us on our check out date as our job was day to day at the end, and was more than happy to do anything we ever needed him to at the cabin. The cabin is set up with you walking into the kitchen with the dining room to your left that has big sliding glass doors the give an awesome view of the lake and sunrise! Your living room, bathroom, and main bedroom with queen bed are also on this floor. The bathroom doesn't have a bath tub, but the shower is large enough for anyone. The second bedroom is up the stairs that are beside the dining room. There are four beds upstairs and it would be the perfect set up for kids or some friends to be able to chat at night after a fun day of fishing or sports on the lake! Dan and his properties come highly recommended. He is great to rent from and work with on getting everything the way you want it! A+++++ and highly recommended. As a plus there is also a resident bald eagle! You are about a 10 minute drive to make it into Grand Rapids

Perfect location on Pokegama, Minnesota's most beautiful lake

Three siblings and their families spent 4th of July in this spacious environment. Loved that this property is on the west side of the lake...morning sun was warming yet we were very comfortable in the protected shade during the hot afternoons. Beach has beautiful sand bottom in crystal clear water; a haven for kids ages 1-16 years old! The dock accommodated our 26" boat, with easy lake access not fair from the property. Decided to watch the fireworks from the property (vs. taking the boat out) cause the view was hard to beat!! The cabin was equipped with everything we needed inside and out! Looking forward to staying here again!

AMAZING - Relaxing and Roomy

This was our first year staying at this property. We had a large group and there was plenty of space for all and the two kitchens allowed for enough room to prepare all of our meals and enjoy them together. The rooms are nicely updated and the area of the lake is very peaceful. The shoreline was ideal for the kids to play and swim and the lake was clean and clear. Dan was amazing to work with and we will be coming back next year for sure!

Another Great Family Vacation on Pokegama Lake

Has been a few years since we have been back to this property. Nice upgrades in the kitchen & family area with beautiful large dining table and furniture in both family rooms. Beds have also been replaced and are amazingly comfortable. We love staying for a week here. So much to do on this great lake and everything you could need nearby in Grand Rapids. So perfect for my sisters and our families to build memories of summer vacations. Will come back every year!

Prime spot on Lake Pokegama

This property is great for kids. We had 6 kids (ages 1-8) so having the separation from one side of the house to the other worked very well for naps and bedtime. We would close the breezeway doors and be able to play games and laugh at night without having to worry about waking the kids. Heaven knows they needed a good night's rest after playing hard all day in the sun! The property is so close to the water that I could sit on the deck and still watch the kids play in the shallow water. I noticed a couple other reviews mentioned the easy-entry to the water and I couldn't agree more... convenient for the kids and stays shallow far enough for them to go out to the driving platforms on their own. Our family is big enough that we rented the next door cabin as well, which was very nice so we had a nice-sized area of water between the 2 docks to set a perfect physical boundary for the kids to play in safely. My husband fished everyday, which he LOVED, and it was great that he could go in the morning and afternoon for a couple hours without having to be gone all day since it was so convenient to stop back at the cabin as needed. Over the years vacationing here, he has found multiple fishing holes and says one thing he likes about Pokegama is even if it's a windy day, you can still always find a place tucked away to fish because of the size and shape of the lake. The owner's flat-bottomed pontoon in great for fishing with the kids too and it's the kind of fishing that is great for kids... You get a bite most every cast! Downfall is, lot of little ones, but the kids don't care about that. We fish for blue gills. Another plus if the fishing side of things, there is not a lot of traffic! The lake is so huge that we probably just didn't notice other fisherman. Our cabins give us private lake access so we didn't even run in to other tourists which was perfect for our private family getaway! We used the kayaks everyday as well; great bonus. We keep thinking we should go somewhere else for our family trip, but we continue to love it enough every year that we keep coming back! Why change a good thing I guess! ?

Family of 15 Vacation

We chose this place because we could all be together under one roof. Fifteen of us - 8 adults and 7 grandchildren (ages infant to 8). We like to be in one unit to cook together, eat together, play together and BE together. We have been here twice and the accommodations fit us perfectly! Dan and Patty are super nice people and their goal is for you to have a great visit to their home. Yes, it truly is their home and the accommodations are every bit as nice as what you would want/have for a lakeside home. We appreciate having the dishwasher and washer and dryer. With the many people those two things are a necessity. The grounds are flat and roomy for children to run and play, the shallow water close to the grounds is perfect for small kids and no worries for mom and dad. It's nice to have your own private spot so you aren't competing with multiple resort families/guests. Our family had a great week making memories and we will definitely be going back! Thanks, Dan and Patty!

Family Reunion / Wedding

Great place to house multiple families, we had 4 families between two of Dans houses and it worked out great. The middle house worked best for the central cooking and area to gather. The fantastic picnic tables work out great for meals and games. Large deck great deck with great lake views. Dan was great to work with and always available for any questions. Great location, close to grand rapids, and lots of good views.

Good family memories, overall price does not match appearance and maintainance of cabin.

Our stay granted some great family memories. We enjoyed the slope to the lake, which was nice and flat and close to the cabin. The time we spent cleaning windows so we could get a view of the beautiful lake was disappointing. We baked cookies to make the cabin smell like home, which again created some great memories. The fishing was good and the owners were helpful and friendly. To the owners credit, they had just hired a new cleaning service, so maybe a new cleaning service will assist in improving the stay at Lake Pokegama.

Pokegama vacation

We did enjoy our stay at your home. It was large enough for our group of 11. Although next year we might have 4 more.. It was a little more expensive than our family budget. We did notice your ad says pets are not allowed, but our neighbors had 2 dogs. We did catch fish for a fish fry, and they were good.

My wife and I grew-up in the outdoors - we love to boat, fish, hunt, camp, and sit by the campfire telling stories. Some of our fondest memories as kids growing-up was packing the car to go to Uncle Buzz' cabin on the lake for a week of fun. This experience, and the memories they created, was something my wife and I wanted to pass onto our children. We started with the cabin 'in the middle' but over the years, the owners to our 'right' and to our 'left' wanted to sell their properties. We now have more cabins than we will ever use personally and would like to share them with other families who share our values. Our little 'retreat' now has 6+ acres of privacy and over 575' of level, sandy lakeshore. It is truly our little slice of heaven.....

Lake Pokegama is one of the premier lakes in Minnesota and offers multiple amenities. We are within(5) miles of downtown Grand Rapids, at the end of a quiet dead-end street, and have level lakeshore. The cabin is simple, clean, and has a million dollar view!

You will be challenged to experience all of the lakeshore and waterway in one week. Most of the lake traffic occurs on the weekend's, offering a quiet retreat during the week. When it's windy, there is always a protected bay to enjoy. At the end of the week, it will be tough to go home.
