We were hopeful about this stay, as the house has a lot of potential, but our experience was unfortunately not what we expected. The rental company was kind and polite throughout, though things felt a little unorganized. The house itself was cleanish, but there was a strong musty smell. The porch, which looked beautiful in the photos, had a mildew odor that made it hard to enjoy, and even the ice from the fridge smelled strongly of fish.After the first night, we woke up to a flooded living room and kitchen. We reported it right away and were told maintenance was on the way, but with the heavy rain the flooding got worse. By the time we returned from lunch, the whole first floor was underwater. Eventually, we were asked to move out for safety reasons.The company did try to make things right by offering us a condo downtown, but since it was mostly bunk beds, had no pool, and wasn’t near the beach, it didn’t work for us. We accepted a refund, though at first only the rental fee was returned. I had to follow up several times and get a little sassy to get the VRBO service fee processed as well.Overall, we appreciated the kindness of the staff and their willingness to help, but the home really needs deeper cleaning, more upkeep, and better coordination with VRBO to make the guest experience smoother.
