Hanua Kai and KBM were great

we rented unit 424 from KBM Hawaii at Hanua Kai. The folks at KBM were wonderful to work with! The resort and unit we stayed in were better than we expected. It is a mountain view room which was a very nice view. Would definitely stay here again. The store on the property was great, and having a Dukes bar and restaurant here was also great.

Well equipped room

Love the property. Room was nice and had most everything needed for the pool and beach outings. Beds could be replaced. Not the most comfortable. Spa was disappointing. Very expensive. No robes provided or even towels to shower afterwards. No spa atmosphere for relaxing and enjoying before and after, but for the price, you’d expect the whole experience.

We’ve stayed at this resort before, it’s an amazing property. Unfortunately this unit needs work and to be restocked with missing items. Only one beach chair, so we had to rent 3 more for the week. The tough part to get around is how grungy the suite is. All the curtains are very stained along with every piece of the couch/hideaway bed. Lamp shades are stained up along with most of the bedding. Literally if the owner spent a bit of money it’d be back to acceptable

Review of Honua Kai - Konea

We have stayed at Honua Kai (both buildings the Konea and Hoku Lani) several times. It's in a great location and overall is a great property with lots of amenities: large grassy areas and pools, BBQs, fitness room, general store, restaurant and bar, etc.. While the grounds are well manicured, the perceived value you get partially depends on the unit that you rent and the service you experience. Some are units kept up, while others seem to be declining (particularly the comfort of the beds, couches, the amount and cleanliness of furniture in the living room and on the balcony, and kitchen and bathroom amenities that are provided in each unit. I would rate our unit 8/10. Certainly not the best or worst unit that we stayed in at Honua Kai. We enjoyed our stay and this is feedback is meant to be constructive so that people have even a better vacation. This unit's interior was outfitted nicely the way most of the units are (came with stainless appliances and granite counter tops, flat screen tvs, with sliding accordian doors to the balcony that allows for an indoor/outdoor feel and pretty much had everything we needed. A few things that could have made it a 9 or 10: the lighting was kind of dim in the living room at night even with all of the lamps on and the fold out couch needs to be replaced (our kids can sleep anywhere... when they complain the fold out mattress was spongy after just a few days and the roll away was worse that says something). Outside parking and valet is better than underground parking which is relatively tight if you have a large SUV or Tacoma. The sub zero freezer near the Bellman to store things until check in is a big plus when you have already been on the island (spent our first half of the vacation in a home), but the property seems to struggle with keeping up with the towel service in the machines and having enough key fobs during busy times. We were lucky, but during check in and check out I noticed several people were upset that while they could get into their rooms (moving to key punch codes), they could not use the automated towel machines or go to the fitness center without having to wait for some more wrist bands. Not what you would expect when paying $500-1000/night. While we returned our wrist bands at check out, if this the expectation, the bellman should remind people when they give them out at check-in.

Great place for family

Was an awesome first experience in Hawaii! Great place for kids with multiple pools to kids to switch up on day to day basis. Loved that they have multiple hot tubs by all the pools!

KBM continues to be our family's go-to site for Maui bookings. Their prices for the Honua Kai resort are unbeatable, and the complimentary car rental (6 nights' stay) makes it even easier. The staff are pleasant to deal with, patient, and accommodating where possible. They really do their best to make you feel valued and welcome!

Quick getaway

The property was what we needed for a quick getaway. Cleaning could have been better as far as carpet was showing stains and bathrooms were just a quick wipe down. Maybe just because they were short staffed? I’m not sure but in todays world with Covid, you would think cleaning would be a top priority. Overall.. we did enjoy some quiet time and used the pool and on site restaurant.

The kitchen faucet leaked. Never had internet or wi-fi as stated in the booking. We had work to do so that was a real problem. Horrible storage~ It was clean but felt like it had not been used as all clocks were either off or flashing, appliances, etc. Probably would not stay at this property again.

Not our favorite unit at Honua Kai

This was our 5th stay at Honua Kai. Of all the units we stayed in, this was our least favorite. The rate was discounted due to the view of the current construction. This was expected. In the absence of the construction, you also see the traffic light in the distance at night, making it feel urban vs beachy. Also the unit kitchen was not stocked well at all. No grill utensils, only 1 very small skillet, no basics like salt, pepper, olive oil. Also, carpet and furnishings are showing wear and tear.

Beautiful facility!! Great location!!

We had a wonderful five nights in gorgeous Honua Kai! The grounds are beautiful and the location is perfect. Our condo was exactly as listed; we had everything we needed! I would highly recommend this complex and unit.

Great resort but run down unit.

We love the Honua Kai. We've stayed there over five times now. Unfortunately the unit we stayed with was poorly managed. Unit was not properly cleaned. Couch was so dirty that we chose not to sit on it; Lamp shades had to be replaced. - torn; hives had to be taken away off the lanai walls, which were not properly cleaned up even after removed; HVAC stopped working on the 3 occasions - too noisy and hot to sleep without the doors shut; cabinet doors broken; and missing cookware; bed and pullout mattress seen better days. Nevertheless it's hard to have a bad time in Maui! There is now a swanky new resort right next to the Honua Kai - the Westin - which will seriously challenge the current pricing.

Great place- bedding needs work.

Great property and loved the amenities, pool, beach and beach accessories. Would have loved cleaner bedding, sheets were stained, pilled and very worn, pillows lumpy and needed replacement. Other than that we would be back with those improvements.

Honua Kai is a great place to stay. Has an excellent pool area and the rooms are second to none.

First of all, KBM Hawaii is so great to book with. They are so organized and so quick to help with anything you need. I have booked with them multiple times and will continue to book our Hawaiian vacations with them. Second, Honua Kai is a great place to stay. The convenience of having a kitchen area and washer/dryer in the rooms is a must as we've gone without on previous stays. Rooms are great and pool area is fantastic. Would definitely stay again. No complaints!

Well appointed suite was so comfortable and enjoyable to be in. Extra equipment such as the cooler, sun umbrella and beach chairs were very handy. It was wonderful to be able to open the windows fully with the sliding screens to keep out flies. Thank you also for the chocolates KBM! They were quite deliciousl.
