Cabin on Columbine Lake - Large deck - Hot Tub/Views - 1 mile to Purgatory

NOTE: 4WD/AWD required in winter with snow tires (Thanksgiving through late March). Chains can be rented in the neighborhood for $30/day.

Our cabin features 2 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms sits on 1.2 acres and is located above Columbine Lake with a private hot tub and an awesome wrap around deck to enjoy the views.

Just 1 mile from Purgatory Ski Resort and 25 miles from historic downtown Durango, the cabin offers privacy and seclusion and awesome wrap around decks off both levels of the cabin with views of Engineer Mountain, Spud Mountain and of course Columbine Lake. The lower deck features a private hot tub and seating while the upper deck has an outdoor dining table (seating for 6) and a gas BBQ Grill.

The cabin features a second living space downstairs (with a TV), WIFI, washer/dryer, 2 car garage, and a recently remodeled, fully stocked kitchen. In summer and fall, there is a trail down to Columbine Lake (while beautiful, the lake is not stocked, so there is not fishing in the lake).

This home is pet friendly! We allow a maximum of 2 dogs max and the pet fee is $40/day (for a max $250 per stay).

Book at least a week and a 10% discount is automatically applied (Excludes Christmas/New Years).

Stunning Views

Great views and very quiet and secluded

Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: My 3 kids and I stayed here for the week and enjoyed the lake view and the proximity to purgatory for summer recreations. The kitchen was well stocked with utensils, and all the appliances worked great for every day cooking and cleaning. There were plenty of towels and toiletry throughout the home. The issues we ran into with this house is that other than the garage and front yard this property wasn't very dog friendly. lots of stairs and getting to the lake is quite a treck down the steep slope side. The local self proclaimed "Person who runs the lake - Tim" gave my kids and I a hard time the very first morning at the lake about fishing. The neighbors directly next door also yelled at us on the road about speeding - then proceeded to follow us down the one lane driveway to further press their point. The staff at VRC was extremely helpful via text message and fortunately these issues stopped once we made them aware. I would recommend VRC as their response and communication was wonderful throughout our stay. Overall - without the problems with the neighbors and the "lake manager" The kids and I had a pretty good time in Durango. Unfortunately though, we wouldn't rent this property again. Not the right fit for our family.

Exactly What We Were Looking For!

The communication prior was helpful and clear. Very close to many different activities and near downtown Durango. We enjoyed watching the beavers work in the lake! They were busy! My only small complaint is the house was not as clean as I would expect. Very dusty and cobwebs everywhere. We definitely left it cleaner than we arrived.

Elopement retreat

The house was perfect for what we needed, beds were comfy and the kitchen was well stocked. We were able to have a small family dinner (discussed with extremely responsive hosts first of course!) on the large porch with spectacular views of the lake and mountains beyond, including the one we hiked for our private elopement that weekend. The home was clean, and the lower level space was a great bonus area for my niece and nephew to safely play while we cooked.

Five days in the mountain

Rating Details: The property manager was very helpful. The vacation rental was very clean. I was very happy with the location. I was somewhat dissatisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Overall, our stay was fine. We did have some issues with the cabin. First, I would love to see the mattresses replaced for both bedrooms. In my opinion, they both need to be replaced with firmer mattresses. Second there is a broken window blind, and one of the bedrooms that needs to be fixed. Third I would love to see you put a TV in the main living area. TV downstairs really doesn’t work. Next, I’d love to see some upgrades to the furniture. Old and tired might be my best description and last I would love to see you upgrade the Utensils in the kitchen. Everything seem to be directly from a garage sale. None of this is a dealbreaker. Overall everything was acceptable. The location was fantastic. The fact that there was a garage where we could put our bicycles in the evening was great. Access to the cabin was super easy. The cabin could use some upgrades. It’s a little bit old and tired.

Maintenance issues. Didn’t realize we would be a 30-minute drive from Durango or that Purgatory would be closed most of the time. Lake access was impossible—thought we would be able to walk down a fish or kayak. Nope. Still,beautiful setting and escape fro Texas heat.

Great time in Durango!

We had a great stay! It was the perfect home base to explore locally and drive to national parks in both Utah and Colorado. The house was clean and the views were beautiful. Very comfortable linens. Hot tub was perfect. Thanks for a great stay!

Great getaway, perfect for skiing!

The cabin is great, super warm and really spacious. We loved how close it was to the ski resort. The Kitchen had all the essentials and the complementary toiletries were great. You will definitely need an AWD vehicle for winter but we were able to get in and out pretty easily. Overall a great stay! We would love to go back next year.

Convenient for a ski trip

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: We enjoyed a few days of skiing here on the week before Christmas. The location is so convenient to Purgatory. Driving to and from the house on snow-packed roads was easy in an AWD vehicle. Getting to use the garage at the house made arrival and departure very comfortable. The updated kitchen is very nice. View of the lake is beautiful. Our only complaints are that the location of the TV was inconvenient for group viewing since it was in the downstairs room that we used as a bedroom and it was hard to start a fire in the downstairs wood heater because the cold heater was not drafting smoke up the flue. The baseboard heaters were more than sufficient for heating, so we gave up on the wood heater rather quickly. We would definitely return and recommend this house.

Perfect location with amazing views!

My fiancé and I stayed with our 2 dogs at the end of October and it was the perfect fall getaway. The house had everything we needed and the views were amazing. We enjoyed the easy access to trails nearby and my fiancé enjoyed fishing on the lake. It was a very easy check in and out process and the house was very clean. We loved getting to take our dogs and were so glad they were pet friendly! Could not recommend the property enough as well as Vacation Rental Collective. Will definitely be booking with them again!

Stunning property and perfect location to visit the area

Absolutely loved our stay here. We used this as our home base to visit Durango, Ouray, and Silverton. The property views are stunning and the amenities are perfect. The owners allowed us to bring our dogs, which we are so grateful for because we love to travel with them and spend our days outside exploring and hiking. This was our anniversary trip and we fell in love with the area, so we will definitely be back!

Relaxing Get Away

Wonderful! We had a great time. Loved the house and the view. We felt very comfortable and welcomed. The property was nice and clean. Also, like that it was close to a lot of the things we wanted to go and do. We would definitely consider staying here again❤️

Quiet Woods Retreat

We spent a long weekend here. It was very peaceful both day and night. The kitchen was very nice and well equipped. The views from both levels of the deck were amazing!

Amazing Property!!

Everything was perfect and in great condition. The new kitchen appliances were fantastic. The hot tub and double deck were superb. And those views!! Engineer Mountain and Columbine Lake really set the mood for relaxation and serenity. Excellent location in proximity to Silverton/Ouray/Durango as well. Hiked Ice Lakes Trail during my stay, which was about a 45-minute drive up the Million Dollar Highway. Only enhanced this incredible stay! Highly recommend and might even have to return in the future! Thank you so much for an unforgettable memory!!
