Hello and welcome!
We are Stefanie and Richard Cox. We love the Adirondacks.
Are you a granola-eating tree hugger? Do you search for wildflowers and enjoy walking or hiking in the woods? Or maybe you prefer to ride your bike on gentle rolling hills, riding around winding roads through forest and farmland? Or maybe your prefer going out on a stand-up paddle board, kayak, canoe, or sailboat? Do you love to hear coyotes , see a bald eagle fly overhead, watch a flock of wild turkeys cross the field? Do you enjoy supporting local organic farms and farm-to-table meals? Do you enjoy traveling with a furry companion or two? Do you enjoy sitting around a campfire sharing stories and songs? Are you a fan of composting, and reusing quality materials?
If so, then you are in the right place at ADK Treehuggers! We love these things too, and we look forward to meeting you and your pet. (You don't have to love ALL of the same things we do.)
We did a lot of canoe camping in our younger days... we called this "glamping." FANCY CAMPING! YOU’VE GOT IT ALL... A REFRIGERATOR, A small freezer, A/C, a nice shower with good water pressure, high-speed WiFi, and an oven ARE ALL wonderful luxuries... We are ALSO fully solar powered! (Currently working on setting up a wood-fired hot tub. Stay tuned for updates...)
When you book, I will send you a detailed "virtual packet" of information about the area... Where to buy groceries; local farm stands; restaurants and cafes; live music, comedy, and theater performances; hiking (easy Champlain Area Trail System [CATS] to challenging 46 high peaks, and many in between), numerous local waterfalls, official bike trails, as well as back roads (I've ridden about 500 miles on my bike locally. I have found drivers to be very respectful, moving into the opposing lane to pass me), swimming locations, boating options. The packet includes addresses, web page links, addresses parking issues, etc. I am happy to search on your preferred topic... just ask!
Por que o anfitrião escolheu essa propriedade
We found this property after a six-year search for the right place. Westport is a sweet, quiet town right on Lake Champlain. We wanted a good chunk of land, so we are a bit out of town, close to exit 31 on I-87 (The Northway). We retired in June 2024, so we now live in the old farm house next door and continue to manage the camper for guests. Before we retired, we rented out the house long-term, and we used the camper for extended visits to work on projects (up to a month at a time).
Now we live here year around, and we are living the dream in the Adirondacks. We are happy to share our former "vacation home" with others.
When you arrive, you will find brochures, maps, and other items to help you choose your adventures. I will provide a fresh bouquet of flowers from the garden and/or wild flowers... depending on what is in season. I will also leave you a small bottle of local maple syrup and locally made soap. I can't promise you a loaf of my homemade sourdough bread... but it's a possibility (depending on the length of your stay and my schedule at that time)!
I love to cook. I have camped for up to a month at a time in this camper, so I have ensured that the kitchen is fully equipped, although the space is small... camping enamel dishes, so your are welcome to take them outside, insulated metal mugs for coffee/tea/wine/etc. Large cups, so you can use lots of ice on a hot day. A small toaster, electric hot water kettle, plenty of knives for carving, dicing, chopping, cutting board, can opener, wine opener... Plenty of silverware and cooking utensils. A large spaghetti pot, strainer, baking pans. My personal favorites are the medium and small iron skillets, which I clean and season for you. If you need additional items, I will gladly lend them from our house next door (e.g., blender, mixer, citrus juicer, cast iron Dutch oven). The kitchen space is small, so I have limited space to store extras. Just let me know if you'd like to borrow something...
O que faz essa propriedade ser única?
We are located in the Champlain Valley of the Adirondack Park. The Adirondacks consist of 6 million acres of wilderness, including the highest mountain peaks east of the Rockies, 3,000 lakes, 30,000 miles of rivers and streams, verdant pine forests, rocky elevations, abundant wildlife, and incredible vistas.
The Champlain Valley, also known as the Adirondack Coast, is located on the eastern edge of the Adirondacks. Watch the sun rise over the Green Mountains of Vermont across Lake Champlain. Watch the sun set over the Adirondack Peaks from the rolling hills of Westport and Essex. Lake Champlain is the largest of the Adirondack Lakes (it was once considered the sixth Great Lake). It stretches 125 miles long, north-south, with a maximum depth of 400 feet. It accommodates motorboats, sailboats, pontoons, and paddle boats... You can rent a boat at the Westport marina. According to local legend, you might even catch sight of Champy, our local underwater lake monster.
Imagine waking up in the morning to bird song. Cooking a hearty breakfast of pancakes with local maple syrup, yogurt, fruit, and bacon. Plan your hike of the day... will it be easy, medium, or challenging? Will you pack lunch, or plan to eat in a local cafe or diner? When you return, take a hot, refreshing shower outdoors, while enjoying the view of the woods.... Cook dinner on the grill, over the firepit, or on the stove indoors. Relax in the Adirondack chairs by the firepit. If it's chilly out (spring/fall... we are closed in winter), you can relax on the front porch with a cozy fire in the woodstove.
We have enjoyed visiting the Adirondacks for many years. Richard and I retired in June 2024. We could not think of a more beautiful and peaceful place to live out our retirement years. We finally settled on the sweet gray house in Westport, with 32 acres of wooded land and private trails.
