Great location! Pet friendly, so grateful for that!!! Comfy bed! Amazing outside shower! Owner was a wealth of knowledge about the area and more than willing to do research prior to my trip. Checking in was easy. Porch was so pretty. Owner gave great local tips especially to swimming holes. There was a trail on the property that was nice to walk the dog! Local area was fun and beautiful to explore. I loved the location! Easy to get to also!

We booked 4 nights and were excited about camping in the woods. The cost was reasonable, and there was a lot to do and see nearby. Stephanie provided helpful information about the surrounding area, which we appreciated. We were pleasantly surprised to find a hot tub, as it wasn’t listed as an amenity when we booked. Unfortunately, the wooden benches in the tub were slimy/slippery. The fire pit was nice, but the outhouse had no interior light. We understood how the composting toilet worked, but there was no effective way to prevent urine/grey-water odors from filling the camper. The smell was unpleasant since the toilet is centrally located between the bedroom and kitchen, and all 3 exhaust fans did little to help.We hoped to enjoy the 3-season addition, but Richard’s woodworking shop is directly in front of the windows. It didn’t block the wooded views, but it made the space feel less private than we expected, and he worked there every day. His large diesel truck was also parked beside our bedroom window each night and started/moved before 9 a.m. each morning. On night 3, Stephanie left a frantic voicemail saying she had gone through the rental, with all our belongings still inside, and said we “clearly hadn't left.” She immediately called back to say she had misread her calendar. I wasn’t checking VRBO messages because I was on vacation, so this was unsettling.I really wanted to love this stay, but overall it wasn’t the peaceful, private camping experience we expected.

Hi Bradley and Reiley, I’m sorry you were unhappy. I sent regular messages, but you almost never replied. I misread my calendar (most guests check out on Sunday). I sent a check-out message on Saturday evening. (I was thinking you were checking out on Sunday, so i offered that you could have a late checkout at 5 pm. You never replied.) At 5 pm Sunday, I was thinking you were gone, so I entered. I quickly realized my mistake and called to apologize. Richard showed you how to use the composting toilet the first evening. He said that if there are any issues, please contact us through the VRBO app. We heard nothing about these concerns from you. I am very responsive to guest questions and concerns, but I heard none from you… until now. I hope you have a better experience elsewhere.

Great place to stay with dogs!

We ran across this listing when we were looking for a place inn the Adirondacks where we could stay along with our two dogs, and thought we'd give it a try, since it was one of the few we found that would take 2 dogs. It turned out to be a great place to stay, both for us and our dogs, since we didn't have to worry about them running into other people there. They have some trails right on the property that we could take the dogs on, and while the accommodations weren't large (it's a camping trailer with an enclosure built around it), but there was plenty of room for the two of us and our dogs. The host, Stefanie, was very gracious and accommodating, also, and it was handy for several hikes we took in that area. We'd definitely recommend it, even if you don't have dogs, and especially if you do.

Not what I expected

Ok maybe I misunderstood the post but pee in one toilet and poop in an outhouse was not my idea of the 21st century. Talk of the Adirondacks from where I was at all I saw were woods!! I managed but will never rent this property again!! The cost was very nice no problem there!!

Hello Nathalie, We appreciate your honest feedback. In hindsight, I regret accepting your reservation. I wish I had asked more questions. ADK Treehugger‘s Paradise is rustic. We aim to offer simple, no-frills, affordable accommodations. We are the lowest priced accommodations in the area, but cost is not the only factor to consider. Our facility is a camper in the woods. We love that, and we hope to share that with others who also enjoy wildlife. We state clearly in the listing that we have no flush toilet. Instead we converted to a composting toilet, plus an outhouse. I’m sorry that was not comfortable for you. Numerous times I mentioned to let me know if you need anything. I would have been happy to come clean the composting toilet each day, but you did not accept my offers. Yes, we are surrounded by woods, part of the Adirondack Park, which we dearly love. Clearly you don’t. Again, I will ask more questions for future guests, to ensure a good fit. Best wishes to you, Stefanie

Hello and welcome!

We are Stefanie and Richard Cox. We love the Adirondacks.

Are you a granola-eating tree hugger? Do you search for wildflowers and enjoy walking or hiking in the woods? Or maybe you prefer to ride your bike on gentle rolling hills, riding around winding roads through forest and farmland? Or maybe your prefer going out on a stand-up paddle board, kayak, canoe, or sailboat? Do you love to hear coyotes , see a bald eagle fly overhead, watch a flock of wild turkeys cross the field? Do you enjoy supporting local organic farms and farm-to-table meals? Do you enjoy traveling with a furry companion or two? Do you enjoy sitting around a campfire sharing stories and songs? Are you a fan of composting, and reusing quality materials?

If so, then you are in the right place at ADK Treehuggers! We love these things too, and we look forward to meeting you and your pet. (You don't have to love ALL of the same things we do.)

We did a lot of canoe camping in our younger days... we called this "glamping." FANCY CAMPING! YOU’VE GOT IT ALL... A REFRIGERATOR, A small freezer, A/C, a nice shower with good water pressure, high-speed WiFi, and an oven ARE ALL wonderful luxuries... We are ALSO fully solar powered! (Currently working on setting up a wood-fired hot tub. Stay tuned for updates...)

When you book, I will send you a detailed "virtual packet" of information about the area... Where to buy groceries; local farm stands; restaurants and cafes; live music, comedy, and theater performances; hiking (easy Champlain Area Trail System [CATS] to challenging 46 high peaks, and many in between), numerous local waterfalls, official bike trails, as well as back roads (I've ridden about 500 miles on my bike locally. I have found drivers to be very respectful, moving into the opposing lane to pass me), swimming locations, boating options. The packet includes addresses, web page links, addresses parking issues, etc. I am happy to search on your preferred topic... just ask!

Por que o anfitrião escolheu essa propriedade

We found this property after a six-year search for the right place. Westport is a sweet, quiet town right on Lake Champlain. We wanted a good chunk of land, so we are a bit out of town, close to exit 31 on I-87 (The Northway). We retired in June 2024, so we now live in the old farm house next door and continue to manage the camper for guests. Before we retired, we rented out the house long-term, and we used the camper for extended visits to work on projects (up to a month at a time).

Now we live here year around, and we are living the dream in the Adirondacks. We are happy to share our former "vacation home" with others.

When you arrive, you will find brochures, maps, and other items to help you choose your adventures. I will provide a fresh bouquet of flowers from the garden and/or wild flowers... depending on what is in season. I will also leave you a small bottle of local maple syrup and locally made soap. I can't promise you a loaf of my homemade sourdough bread... but it's a possibility (depending on the length of your stay and my schedule at that time)!

I love to cook. I have camped for up to a month at a time in this camper, so I have ensured that the kitchen is fully equipped, although the space is small... camping enamel dishes, so your are welcome to take them outside, insulated metal mugs for coffee/tea/wine/etc. Large cups, so you can use lots of ice on a hot day. A small toaster, electric hot water kettle, plenty of knives for carving, dicing, chopping, cutting board, can opener, wine opener... Plenty of silverware and cooking utensils. A large spaghetti pot, strainer, baking pans. My personal favorites are the medium and small iron skillets, which I clean and season for you. If you need additional items, I will gladly lend them from our house next door (e.g., blender, mixer, citrus juicer, cast iron Dutch oven). The kitchen space is small, so I have limited space to store extras. Just let me know if you'd like to borrow something...

O que faz essa propriedade ser única?

We are located in the Champlain Valley of the Adirondack Park. The Adirondacks consist of 6 million acres of wilderness, including the highest mountain peaks east of the Rockies, 3,000 lakes, 30,000 miles of rivers and streams, verdant pine forests, rocky elevations, abundant wildlife, and incredible vistas.

The Champlain Valley, also known as the Adirondack Coast, is located on the eastern edge of the Adirondacks. Watch the sun rise over the Green Mountains of Vermont across Lake Champlain. Watch the sun set over the Adirondack Peaks from the rolling hills of Westport and Essex. Lake Champlain is the largest of the Adirondack Lakes (it was once considered the sixth Great Lake). It stretches 125 miles long, north-south, with a maximum depth of 400 feet. It accommodates motorboats, sailboats, pontoons, and paddle boats... You can rent a boat at the Westport marina. According to local legend, you might even catch sight of Champy, our local underwater lake monster.

Imagine waking up in the morning to bird song. Cooking a hearty breakfast of pancakes with local maple syrup, yogurt, fruit, and bacon. Plan your hike of the day... will it be easy, medium, or challenging? Will you pack lunch, or plan to eat in a local cafe or diner? When you return, take a hot, refreshing shower outdoors, while enjoying the view of the woods.... Cook dinner on the grill, over the firepit, or on the stove indoors. Relax in the Adirondack chairs by the firepit. If it's chilly out (spring/fall... we are closed in winter), you can relax on the front porch with a cozy fire in the woodstove.

We have enjoyed visiting the Adirondacks for many years. Richard and I retired in June 2024. We could not think of a more beautiful and peaceful place to live out our retirement years. We finally settled on the sweet gray house in Westport, with 32 acres of wooded land and private trails.
