Sustainable living Upstate NY. The space is the outcome of 10 years of reclaiming materials from various construction projects in NYC. A true example of mid century modern architecture is converted to a sanctuary with a 3 way open wood burning fireplace and Finnish indoor sauna looking at nature less than 90 mins by train from Grand Central.
The space introduces guests to unique woodworking and art a few minutes away from great nature escapes, fine dining and Dia Beacon.
The space
Birds never leave here; they just go silent after the sunset to start again early morning. Sunset is one of the best times to enjoy nature views from several spots in the house. Dears come and go but they seem to have been visiting the property years now. Sometimes 6 or 7 of them, some with antlers some without. Fall asleep in the private sunken living room that enjoys full solar and lunar daily cycle and chipmunks might be looking straight at you standing on the stacked firewood a foot away from you when you open your eyes.
LivingUPstation (furnishing and art) is made entirely out of reclaimed materials. Currently approximately 75 reclaimed heart pine joists dating over 100yrs old and having served as the structural support of 2 adjacent buildings by Central Park West in NYC for another 110 years are re-used to serve as custom made furniture that allow for multiple configurations and adjust to user's needs. Copper and brass tubing that fed the 2 buildings with water and electrical wire that supplied electricity are the other 2 main materials used either to finish furniture frames or to make art.
Together with all other materials reclaimed over the last 10 years a unique space is created that aims to promote sustainability by introducing guests to multifunctional durable furniture that aim to optimize space and adjust to guest’s needs. We are thrilled to have the first stage of LivingUPstation completed and we are able to host up to 10 guests depending on configuration of furniture. (please inquire with host for more than 5 guests to discuss possible configurations)
