Other Things to Note:
Nestled along the rugged Northern California coast, Santa Cruz County boasts a vibrant history that sets it apart as a cultural and adventurous gem. It all began in the summer of 1885, when three Hawaiian princes—David Kawānanakoa, Edward Keli‘iahonui, and Jonah Kūhiō Kalaniana‘ole—brought surfing to the mainland United States for the first time. Paddling out at the mouth of the San Lorenzo River on hefty redwood boards crafted from local trees, they awed onlookers and sparked a legacy that earned Santa Cruz the title of "Surf City." This wasn’t just a fleeting moment; their influence ignited a surf culture that thrives today, celebrated at the Santa Cruz Surfing Museum overlooking the legendary Steamer Lane. For guests at our coastal boutique surf hotel, this storied past flows right to our doorstep, inviting you to ride the same waves that birthed American surfing.
Beyond the breakers, Santa Cruz County has carved its name into the annals of adventure as a pioneer in mountain biking and skateboarding. In the 1970s, the Santa Cruz Mountains became the proving ground for mountain biking, where local riders like Gary Fisher and Charlie Kelly tinkered with clunky bikes to conquer steep trails, laying the groundwork for a global sport. Meanwhile, the region’s skateboard scene exploded, fueled by the innovative designs of Santa Cruz Skateboards, founded in 1973. With iconic graphics by artist Jim Phillips—think the screaming hand logo—the brand became a counterculture icon, shaping skateboarding’s rebellious spirit. Whether you’re shredding singletrack or cruising the boardwalk, Santa Cruz offers a playground steeped in adrenaline and ingenuity.
The county’s creative pulse beats just as strong, weaving music and art into its coastal fabric. Santa Cruz has long been a haven for musicians, from the psychedelic rock of the 1960s to today’s indie scene, with venues like The Catalyst hosting legends and up-and-comers alike. Art flourishes here too, with downtown galleries, street murals, and the Santa Cruz Museum of Art & History showcasing local talent alongside artifacts like those historic Hawaiian surfboards. The wine scene adds another layer of artistry, with the Santa Cruz Mountains AVA producing world-class Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from boutique vineyards like Ridge and Storrs. Sip a glass on a sunlit patio, and you’re tasting the region’s terroir—a blend of coastal fog and mountain sun.
Summer in Santa Cruz County ignites with food and festivals that celebrate its eclectic spirit. The Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk, a century-old seaside icon, hums with carnival vibes, while events like the Capitola Art & Wine Festival and Santa Cruz Clam Chowder Cook-Off spotlight local flavors—think fresh seafood, farm-to-table bites, and innovative fusion cuisine. From poke bowls echoing the area’s Hawaiian roots to artisanal treats at farmers’ markets, the food scene is as diverse as the landscape. Pair that with outdoor concerts, surf contests, and mountain bike races, and you’ve got a season brimming with reasons to explore. At our hotel, you’re not just staying—you’re stepping into a living tapestry of history, adventure, and creativity that makes Santa Cruz County unforgettable.

Amazing Vacation Home!
The Manresa Surf House was a perfect location for our family vacation. We were secluded yet close enough to town, which made for easy trips. The home was clean and had everything we needed to feel comfortable and “at home”. The outside area was very inviting with ample seating, an outdoor grill. a fire pit, hammock, and games. We’d stay there again in a heartbeat!

Booking and communication with Monica was excellent. Good location to explore Santa Cruz to Carmel. 2 minute drive to Manresa Beach. The parking pass is a plus, giving you easy parking access to Manresa or Sunset beaches. Good value and cozy property. The unit was a very clean and comfortable. The king size bed was basic, but very comfortable and I am picky.

Nice stay, great for dogs.
Great location, very close to the state beach (they provided a parking pass to access state beach/parks which was a nice perk). Ultra modern, clean with pretty decor. No frills, or personal touches in room for guests except for coffee was fine by us since we were gone during the day and only stayed 2 nights. Was perfect for 3 adults and two small dogs. Had a nice hammock and beautiful courtyard that would be great to lounge in warmer seasons. Was very quiet after 10pm, slept well. Would definitely stay again.

25th Anniversary
Great accommodations. All the right appliances, cookware, etc. Great location. Very close to Manresa State Park/Beach. Their bikes were really nice to have. 2 minute coast down to the beach...4 minute gentle upgrade back to the house. Nice grilling area, corn hole boards, gas firepits. All-in-all, a really great place. We'll be back!

Our stay was good up until we encountered hundreds of ants! They were all over the kitchen, we couldn’t cook, they did have spray however it was empty…

Bright, clean, and well located apartment a very short drive from Manresa State Beach. Especially appreciated the state parks parking pass and the communal areas where we played corn hole and enjoyed the fire pit. Only one star deducted for a combination of an uncomfortable sofa bed (could use a mattress topper) and because it was closer to the road than expected resulting in some road noise. Nothing annoying or enough to prevent sound sleeping just impacted the peaceful atmosphere a bit. Loved the generally quieter/less busy area, however, while still a short drive from Santa Cruz, Capitola, and Aptos.
