My wife and I had decided to tear down the 100-year-old building. Since I couldn’t bring myself to renovate, so we decided to draw up a business plan and look for alternatives. Short terms rentals seemed to fit ours needs, so we started with one suite (#4) to give us an idea as to the viability of the project. After a few months and lots of positive feedback from our guests, we decided to transform the whole building. We opened the other 4 suites in July 2018 and 2 more in the building next door (55 Emmerson) in May 2019. Morel Executive Suites now boast 7 of the best-rated suites in the area. Although, the remodel took longer and cost more than planned, we are still proud to have saved the 100-year-old building.​The name Morel comes from the family who built the house in 1918. My father had bought the house in the 1980’s from one of the Morel sisters who had been born and raised at 51 Emmerson St. We have referred to it as "The Morel Building" ever since.

Being in the heart of a small town has its perks. We have a very good variety of eating and drinking options all within a 5 minutes walk. There is a cinema and even an 80's style arcade nearby. Our nearest neighbour, in the same building, is a local coffee roaster, La Brulerie du Vieux Poste. We have their coffee in the rooms with a french press, but nothing beats à Eric's fabulous latté in the morning.

This is the only independent hotel right in the heart of Edmundston, N.B. All our suites are actually small apartments. They all come furnished with a complete kitchen that has a full sized refrigerator as well as a washer and dryer. Because of this, our suites are perfect for longer term stays. Since you can cook your own meals, it is also perfect for people with strict dietary restrictions.
