Mary and her family, no strangers to Castine, were a delight to host. Her family included fellow alumn of Maine Maritime Academy and they can be very particular house guests so I was pleased they enjoyed themselves and found the house very satisfying. I especially liked that Mary appreciated the iced six pack of Geary's beer more than the dozen peach roses left for them- a wife of a sailor for sure! (These BTW were not 'left behinds' by earlier guests but are part and parcel of my many welcome surprises!). They left the house neat and tidy, always appreciated by hosts, and were especially kind and patient related to a minor refrigerator issue that could not be resolved until later in the week. I hope they return every year and if you have an opportunity to host them do so without hesitation!

Not out-of state owner. Grew up in southern n Maine, graduated from MMA. There was only ONE additional building a Tiny House which is adjacent to cottage- and he knew this beforehand and wanted it ‘gratis’ but understood we would rent it. First falsehood of many. Tenant repeatedly tried to renegotiate terms, seeking rebates again and again and again. We’ve all suffered a renter like this before; ask any hotelier they have a name for them. Tenant was NEVER offered AC, TV was missing remote which we resolved immediately (last tenant took with...) Tenant threatened a review like this if I did not rebate! And Volia here it is which stands in stark contract to ALL of my other reviews. After 15 years, and selling out every summer, we have the management of property nailed. Please look at review on other rental sites also. He was never charged for the Tiny House - and wanted it for free. Was angry when I rented it out, and when he made it uncomfortable for TH tenant - she left. She, a lovely, single, young woman. She never used nor had any interest in the basement amenities. It was made clear the laundry room - in basement-is to be shared by all. DO NOT rent to this man- He was dishonest, inconsiderate, left the cottage a mess, and repeatedly called to harass and threaten.

Sometimes the truth hurts. Even when exaggerated. It is regretful that the above visitor did not enjoy her stay, that my cottage did not live up to her expectations. Last summer we hired out a cleaning service which proved to be a huge disappointment. Mistakes were made, oversight on my part was poor. I take full responsibility for Charla's unfortunate experience. And did so at the moment I was notified, offering full refund and assist with finding a nearby cottage- which she acknowledges in her note. No one wins when a vacation is spoiled- and although I remedied ALL of her concerns within 24 hours ( to her satisfaction!) clearly the ship had sailed. 2012 summer season promises: New professional cleaning service hired, full cabinet of household cleaning supplies, Guaranteed FULL refund if NOT satisfied (within 24 hours of arrival), immediate reply to all concerns by owner (me), and a bottle of wine in fridge waiting in fridge.

Thank you Aubrey and Madison! I am delighted your family had a nice holiday at the 'Baga-duece Coop'. My neighbors mentioned your 'happy hours' (with a smile!!). Doors open to the porch is my favorite also, you should have have been there during the 100 year lightning, thunder storm last summer... door was closed but though the glass it was quite a spectacle. Dogs under bed that night for sure. Book soon, inquiries have been especially strong this year -must be the economy, hopefully!!

Thank you for the wonderful review! I am so pleased you found my cottage as you expected. In fact, I have poured a lot of me into the house, including throwing hammers two years ago when we ripped off the roof of this small singe story and built two new levels affording the views you enjoyed. It is a comfortable, sunny retreat thoughtfully customized for family outings, late dinner parties, or backyard BBQ's. New to this rental concept there have been mistakes made but with honest, fair feedback we have been quick to remedy. We have hired a new cleaning service given clear instruction to pay attention to the details! Please tell your friends, I am willing to give ten% discount of they mention your name!!
