Sobre esta propriedade
Charming 17th century Château
A charming stone castle built in 1632. A secluded garden of 1,5 acres, overlooking Mont Ventoux and the Ceze valley.
The house is about 45 minutes west of Avignon (with world class sights like the Palais du Pape), 30 minutes north of Uzès (the most charming village in the region, the Saturday market is not to be missed), and just 5-10 minutes from La Roque sur Cèze (not only one of France's most beautiful villages but it also has amazing swimming at Les Cascades du Sautadet).
Even in the middle of summer, it's extremely peaceful, all you can hear is the sound of crickets, but just 15-30 minutes away there are charming market villages and towns like Goudargues, Uzès and St Quentin la Poterie as well as stunning sights like Pont du Gard and wineries like Chateauneuf du Pape.
Our beloved château was built in 1632 by a cavalry officer whose talents as a painter of royal portraits was well liked by Louis XII (we even have a book that chronicles his diary entries and what happened in the house almost four hundred years ago).
Over the years, different generations have made their mark on the castle’s appearance. Sometimes to keep themselves safe from harm by fortifying the house (scolding visitors with boiling oil...), other times to lower taxes by removing turrets or building “des caves” to further the wine-making business.
Behind the house, there are a few other houses that make up the small hamlet called “Mas Christol”, but the view from the front of the house is over the garden and the valley without any other house in sight. The garden and the grounds cover about 13 000 m2.
The château is available for rent for the first time this summer. The ground floor has two bedrooms, a living room (including two beds), a kitchen, and one bathroom (and an ensuite shower in one of the bedrooms as well as a lavatory in the entrance hallway) and a laundry room. The second and third floors are currently under renovation and not for rent.

Perguntas frequentes
Sobre o anfitrião
Anfitrião: Måns Tesch
We're a Swedish family with three young boys living in Singapore since a few years back, but we're always longing to be back at Christol.
Por que o anfitrião escolheu essa propriedade
We were living in London when we bought Christol, we weren't looking for such a big place that included so much upkeep but we fell in love with the house, the location and the thought of how it could become our own oasis, a place to always come back to. It's a place steeped in history and the chance to bring the house back to its former glory feels like a worth while endeavour.
O que faz essa propriedade ser única?
If you enjoy peace and quiet, waking up with birdsong and falling asleep to the cicadas. If you crave authenticity and enjoy being in a place where 400 years ago a newly knighted Jacques d'Odol de Saint Christol started building his chateau. If you enjoy walking in the surrounding vineyards looking out over the valley all the way to Mont Ventoux 90 km away. If you're looking for charming southern French villages with market days, lovely restaurants and antique shops. Then this is the place for you.
