The Mele Vacations property is a lovely property nestled in the heart of Hawaiian Paradise Park neighborhood. There are large fruit trees that bear a harvest for your picking pleasure along with comfortable furniture, large lanai, free open wireless Internet and long distance calls, Time Warner Cable, ceiling fans, full kitchen w/ gorgeous granite counters, laundry washer & dryer, office/desk area and plenty of parking. The downstairs unit “Mele Maluhia” (Peace Song) is 3BR (2 rooms with queen beds and one room with 2 twin beds and a 1 trundle bed), a living are with 2 sleeper sofas and a bathroom. On the 2nd floor is "Mele Lani" Paradise 2BR/1BA (2 rooms with queen beds and an open living area with a twin sized daybed w/trundle bed, a 2 sleeper sofas.) This listing is perfect for multiple families traveling together to stay in the same home, but still have privacy.

Amazing house

Everything about this house was absolutely amazing. It was well kept and had a real homey feel to it. This is a must to must book for anybody that's going to be on the big island. trust me you will not regret it

Beautiful home-downstairs unit

The upstairs and downstairs are separate units. Luckily no one was staying above us so it was quiet! Beds and couches are a bit lumpy, but overall the place was cute and the fridge/pantry had a variety of items. Location in HPP was convenient for our stay!

Quiet and relaxing

Very roomy, nice yard with lots of trees and birds. Very quiet - we had property to ourselves. Most beds were good, 1 bit lumpy as well as couches. Nice lanai, screens need little tlc. Nice to have full kitchen and laundry. Good for group of friends or family. We would rent again.

Large and comfy home

The rooms and accommodations were spacious. We made good use of the patio, lanai, for drying out our swim suits as well as the washer and dryer. Just be prepared to drive at least 20-25 mins to get into Hilo for restaurants and other tourist spots. We could easily get to Volcanoes National park and other east side locations from here. The frogs are super loud at night if you keep the windows open! That's probably true everywhere on the island unless you stay in a big hotel. Nice supply of fins, snorkel, and aqua gear for snorkeling if you don't bring your own.

A Must Stay!

We stayed at the Retreat for 3 days, and it was TRULY like being at home. There was NOTHING that we needed that was not in the condo....just like being at home. The communications with Liz,the Owner, was excellent and she provided ALL the information necessary for us to have a very pleasant and enjoyable stay. The location is great....only a few miles from stores, etc. Everything was easy to find and driving was very comfortable. We thoroughly enjoyed the Hilo Farmers Market on Saturday and had lunch at Cafe' Pesto...food was delicious. The condo was very spacious and comfortable....exactly as advertised and MORE! We have stayed in several rentals during our travels and this is the BEST rental that we have rented. I would highly recommend this rental...you won't be disappointed!

Spacious and Convenient

We enjoyed our stay at the property overall. We would have liked to have seen a better job of cleaning and maintenance but when you consider the price, it’s a great value, especially if you are with family and/or friends. The A/C was so great to have in the late afternoon but most of the day we loved the very efficient dehumidifier. No one was renting upstairs so it was very quiet, private and peaceful. We did see a few bugs but realize people, this is a TROPICAL place. We would not want to stay at a place that had enough poison sprayed everywhere that we would never see a single bug. Also, the folks staying there need to routinely clean up after themselves. We’re happy we were able to book this property. Larry & Linda G

A whole month! February.

Our first trip to Hawaii and we stayed on the Big Island for a month to fully explore it. I picked this location for closeness to Volcanos Natl. Park, to explore this rainforest side of the island, and the lower price compared to the Kona for a long stay. The house worked well for all of that. But, if I were to do over, I would do 2 wks here, 2 wks Kona just because the drive between the 2 is about 2 hrs, so we spent a lot of time driving. With 3 bedrooms, we had friends come to stay twice during the month. The beds were comfortable, bedrooms were spacious, plenty of drawer and closet space. Actually all of the living areas are large and have plenty of seating, lots of room to gather and play games. The smart tv works great, I was able to log into my premium channels. The wifi works great, never had any connection issues. But upgrades are needed: the couches are lumpy, dining room chairs are stiff, and there were no cushions on the porch furniture. There is an air conditioner unit in the main living space and the main bedroom. We only used it the first week or so. The house stayed pretty cool, so once we turned the main one off, we never turned it back on. We only used the one in the bedroom twice the whole month. There is a dehumidifier which worked well, we started turning that on everyday when we left, otherwise it started to feel damp in the house. The house is about a 16 minute drive to Hilo, which is the largest town nearby, with major retailers, gas stations, downtown shops, restaurants, parks and beaches. FYI Buy groceries at Target, so much cheaper than the local grocers. People in Hilo thought this was out in the boonies, but I didn’t think it was that far. I thought Hilo offered a lot, but I’m glad we were not staying in Hilo, even though we went there frequently. This is in a large development but the houses have large yards and are back from the road, no street lights, so in that way it did feel more rural. We did not cook much at the house, but there is not a dishwasher, no big deal. Guests are asked to wash and put away dishes at end of stay, also no big deal. But, the cupboards were disorganized and I didn’t like the way the dishes looked, so first thing we did was wash all the plates, bowls, glasses and utensils. We washed cookware as we used it. I think cleaners could do better in the kitchen. Everything else in the house was nice and clean, and it had everything we needed. We enjoyed our stay.

Hawaii caving

It was a great location , about in the middle of our exploits. Hope to stay here again. We caved at the bottom of the island, on the east side and in Hilo. Also it’s only about 40 minutes to Volcanos NP. We were able to cook most nights at the house even though we did eat out some with friends. We always shop at the farmers market in Kea’au for breakfast fruit, ginger root, garlic and for $6 we buy a big bag of cut vegetables for stir fry meals, picking up fish and shrimp at Foodland which is across the road from the market. The fast food oriental place is just a few doors down from Foodland. You get a lot for your money. Thanks Liz for being a helpful host.

lovely place-

stayed for 2 weeks plus and enjoyed the lanai especially. The kitchen had the basics and was stocked with some leftover oils and spices, which I always appreciate and add to. The neighborhood is quiet and at the end of the neighborhood, great outlooks for sunrise. LOOOTS of driving on the big island, so plan accordingly. Beds comfortable, opening the house brought in the breezes and we will miss the big island when we leave.

Jungle get away.

What a wonderful place! My husband, parents and I were looking to be much closer to the beach but this was just what we needed. We sat on the porch every morning enjoying all the trees and birds. It didn’t even matter that it rained every day. In fact we all agreed that the rain only added to the ambiance. In the evening we enjoyed the sweet sound of the coqui frogs. Quiet and out of the way was a perfect place to relax. The house itself was well stocked and larger than we expected. What a nice surprise. We all highly recommend this place and would stay again.

Okay stay

The location had clearly not seen a lot of travelers or people in awhile! Very dusty and damp smelling. The floors were not very clean and the screens in the bathroom and lanai need some fixing as we al got mosquito bites throughout the night. The singular bathroom for the number of rooms was not super convenient as one room was down a long hallway and was pretty noisy when someone walked back and forth from the bathroom. The noise between the upstairs and downstairs is not insulated at all so we heard everything from the people upstairs our first night. Was fine afterwards only because there were not people staying above us the second and third night. The other thing of note is there is AC in one bedroom and the dining space but No AC in two bedrooms or living room. We had texted the owner that we couldn’t find the toaster and they said it was in the right cupboard however, between the 6 adults we did not find a toaster anywhere. Overall it was good for the price but I probably would recommend a deeper clean and labeling of kitchen drawers and cupboards as well as fixing the screens.

Great stay close to Hilo

Beautiful secluded retreat

lovely home that fitted our needs perfectly. Plenty of space for our week gathering as a family. My daughter and mother joined us. We each had a spacious bedroom with ample living space. Loved the screened in Lanai. Had our coffee every morning here. Well stocked and had everything we needed, including washer and dryer. Clean and well maintained. Couldn't have been more pleased.

A wonderful place to set up home-base for an amazing trip!

This home provided everything we needed from a central location to the different areas we wanted to visit, to quiet, lush serenity, to good quiet roads to run on. The home was well decorated and felt welcoming. All of our needs were met as far as appliances, ceiling fans coupled w/box fans to combat the heat....plenty of options for entertainment w/TV and DVD's. Even having people staying in the unit above us was very quiet and not a bother. We would definitely stay here again....great for couples or families!

Beautiful spacious relaxing place to stay

We had a wonderful time staying at this place. We were there for a week with another couple enjoying the Merrie Monarch festival and exploring the big island. The place was beautiful and quiet, we really enjoyed it and would definitely stay there again.

Beautiful!!

Spent a few days here with a couple of friends for the price and the location, but the house was far and above our expectations! Comfortable beds, a well stocked kitchen, and a great home-y atmosphere made it the perfect place to come home to after a couple long days of hiking and exploration. It's a short drive from the airport and a great home base for exploring the Hilo side of the island. Communication was easy going and Liz and Jason were very nice about being flexible for our check in/out times. Would definitely stay here again!

PARADISE!!!!!

My wife and I spent 14 days here, Liz and Jason were great to work with. This property is such a delight. It is clean, well maintained, and in a great location for access to all things on the east side of the island. Liz went out of her way to make you feel welcome and to answer any questions. I have already recommended this property to people I talk to about visiting Hawaii. The photos in the listing accurately reflect the place, but you are still pleasantly surprised when you arrive. Beautiful home, the perfect location, great renters! Truly felt like home away from home.

We rented this home for 10 nights on our honeymoon. The owner and her property managers were above and beyond wonderful! They left us snorkeling gear at our request and information on where to go on the island and everything we needed and wanted to enjoy our stay! There were also ukuleles and a book on how to play them, wish we had had more time to learn to play them! There were also lots of movies and some games selection perfect for all ages!! The house was beautiful, the night we arrived they had left us snacks and drinks and also a fresh beautiful island bouquet. I have stayed in VRBOs before but never have I had the pleasure of being able to just go to the house and relax on our night of arrival without worrying about finding a grocery to get drinks and snacks. There were basic condiments and spices for our cooking needs, and we made sure to buy and leave some behind for the next guests. The beds were very comfortable and we had a beautiful lanai to sit and enjoy breakfast and dinners on, the lanai was surrounded with a roll down screen to keep the bugs away. There were informational books on the island that came in handy when deciding what to do each day. There was also a English Hawaiian dictionary translator which we used quite often. The house was close enough to everything you could want but just far enough to be peaceful and serene. We plan on bringing the kids back and staying here as part of our new tradition for years to come! You will not regret your choice staying here if you visit the big island! The owner and managers checked in on us to make sure we had everything we needed and were always available if we had questions or needed anything, but they were not invasive or overbearing in the least! All in all we couldn't have picked a better place to enjoy our special occasion together, and we wish the owners all the best in their endeavors! Thank you so much for letting us use your home during our honeymoon, we hope to use it again with the kids in the future!!!

We love the Big Island! Our son attends the University of Hawaii, Hilo, so we are there often. We've been married 26+ years, have 3 grown children and a basset hound. Although we live and work in Texas, part of our home and heart is in Hawaii, a beautiful place to spend time.

It’s only a short drive to Keaau, Pahoa or Hilo for great grocery stores, restaurants, shops and entertainment. There are beautiful Cliffs and Shipman’s beach at the bottom of the neighborhood. Akaka Falls, Rainbow Falls, Waipio Valley, Honoli'i Surfer beach, Hilo beaches, Kona, Volcano National Park, Kalapana- Wednesday Night Market , Punaluu Black Sand Beach, South Point and Green Sand beach are some of favorite day trips.

I love the screened in front porch (lanai) to drink coffee in the morning and enjoy the beautiful front yard and landscape and sounds of the birds and gekkos.
