Great hosts of a great home in a great location!
This was our first stay in this lovely home. Our hosts couldn’t have been nicer. Their intro and tour was fascinating. The views were spectacular. The home was spic and span and had everything our large family needed. The art work and libraries were true gems. The location was perfect for our strolls through town.
Pretty view gone wrong!
The key exchange was a real challenge. Five attempted phone calls made by us and answered but disconnected twice by owners. Owners insisted on meeting us, then proceeded with a tour of the house followed by a detailed history. After a five hour ride with children and dogs, this was not welcome at 9pm. Pictures online did not align with the current home. Couches pictured were covered when we arrived. We lifted the covers to find rips in many places on both couches. The third floor spiral "stairs" were more like a spiral "ladder". They were very difficult to carry a small duffle bag up. Listing was not clear that an attached apartment was occupied by someone. Random doors to the attached apartment were locked but still strange. Air conditioning units still in windows in February which created awful noise, wind and cold. Food left in kitchen cabinets with mice droppings, cleaned by us. Plenty more mice droppings behind the refrigerator, cleaned by us. Electrical concerns not up to code, storm door smashing against the house all night because it was broken, repaired by us. Toilets not secured to the floors, felt like a rocking boat in the storm. A brick sitting in place on the front step, but not secure will be a real hazard to someone. We left a day early because it was just a brutal experience. Two attempts made by us to contact the owners once we left, both ignored. The bathrooms and bedrooms were clean. The views from the second and third floor were pretty. The location was great and fun for dog walking.
There is nothing worse than an expensive get away gone wrong. The lack of communication on the owners part is a huge disappointment.
We always insist on welcoming our guests to the house, not just for reasons of hospitality, but more importantly to ensure they know where things are located and how they operate. We knew these guests would be late, because they were stuck in traffic on I-95, so we just asked to be posted on their expected arrival time. Meanwhile, we made sure all three floors were warm because the temperature was dropping to 7 degrees. We knew they would be tired, so we just did a quick tour ensuring that at a minimum they knew where the heating controls were for all 3 floors, extra blankets, comforters, towels, etc. As we do with all guests, we encouraged them to contact us with any questions, problems, or concerns during their stay. We were out of the house in half an hour.
They arrived Thursday night and we did not hear from them until Sunday when they sent a message they were leaving early. No explanation. We called and left a message to inquire why. Their response was the first draft of this review. It was immediately clear to us that they were threatening a bad review in order to force a refund.
We couldn’t believe our eyes, so we contacted the guest who was in the weekend before, having departed just 3 days before these guests came and who had also given us a 5 star review. She called this review “absolutely horrific” and stated there were no mouse droppings, open food on the shelves, loose toilets, etc. She volunteered to affirm her comments to VRBO. Unfortunately, VRBO will not block reviews, no matter how unfounded.
We have just a few more comments:
There are 22 pictures of the house itself, covering all rooms on all floors. They are a fair and accurate representation of the property. The spiral staircase (picture no. 8) is clearly shown.
Yes, there are removable covers on the sofa beds on the main floor and they have a few small rips, but they are very comfortable and provide good beds for extra visitors.
There are two apartments attached to the main house. They are both walled off from the house with separate entrances. One apartment is empty and there is only one person in the other – our caretaker of 30 plus years. He is quiet and rarely seen coming and going.
The electrical connections are up to code and have been inspected by the town fire marshal.
The toilets are properly secured, of course.
There is a loose brick in the step leading into the house. It hasn’t been fixed till now because it is almost impossible to repair brickwork in cold and damp weather. It will be fixed as soon as possible.
We have had wonderful experiences with so many of our visitors and we know that future visitors will be just as enjoyable. We are proud of the house. This experience has made us especially thankful for all our previous guests who appreciated it and left so many positive comments about it.
Lovely trip to Stonington.
This home is exceptionally beautiful. Everything was exactly as stated on the property ad. The views are amazing overlooking the harbor! The house had everything you need to complete your vacation. Most of all the owner met us at the house to show us around and gave us some history of the he home. Thank you Stephen!! We had a wonderful vacation
Great Stonington Getaway
Wonderful owners met us at the property and showed around. The property had quite a history which the owners gratiously explained to us. Beautiful views and conviently located to the picturesque town center. Our German Shepard enjoyed her stay also.

Para o teatro, há o Granite Theatre, o Theatre By the Sea e o Garde Arts Center.
