The Lake House - Water Front Property


Water front cottage, 320 sq ft - "Studio", stylishly furnished, cozy, vaulted ceiling, floor length windows and magnificent views of Shawnigan Lake and hills beyond. Located on the sunny east side of the lake. In/out-door living with a large sundeck, patio furnishings, shared dock and shared double kayak. A full kitchen features an entertainment island for in-door dining. A LaZyBoy sofa-bed with either a slumber air queen size mattress and or a queen 6" foam mattress, nice linens, plush towels and more!

Pet Policy, Deposit and Fees
Pets are not allowed due to bylaws/regulations/policies.
NOTE: Persons traveling with and requiring a Service Animal have special rights and must be granted access regardless.

Cleaning on Departure
A fee is charged for Cleaning on Departure
One-time fee of $85.00 CAD for stays of any number of nights or occupants.
The guest is expected to clean the BBQ. Extra charges could apply.
If property is left in unreasonable condition, extra cleaning fee will apply.

Cleaning During Stay
Cleaning/Maid service is included in the rent and occurs every 7 days during a stay.

Linen
Linen and towels are included in the rent

Parking
Parking for 1 car or 1 small truck is free - no large trucks.

Waterfront:
Property is waterfront (i.e. no properties between the property and water OR property is in a community with private waterfront access).
Lake front cottage on Shawnigan Lake. The small natural access beach gradient is gradual for a short distance. There is a private dock.
Natural beach front with water plants, swimming off the dock. There is a large sandy swimming public beach several minutes walk away. Dock and double kayak is shared with our other rental property which is located right behind this cabin.

Our water is from the lake. Drinking bottled water is supplied for you. We are on Septic. NOTHING goes down the toilets except what comes naturally from you. No tampons, diapers, food or anti-bacterial products down toilet. No food or anti-bacterial products down sinks. No long showers. This helps us maintain a healthy septic system.

Wireless Internet is included in the rent

Telephone Fee
The property does not have a phone.

Our house rules: no smoking (outside okay), no parties or events, no pets.

Tight quarters but has everything on needs and right on the lake. Host was excellent to deal with. Quick response and genuinely wanted the stay to be excellent.

It was great having you stay with us Harold and yes, I genuinely want you to have a great stay!!! Thank you again for the tips on the kayak. The cottage is only 320 square feet but if you follow my instructions on the entrance letter to where to put items the cottage is quite roomy.

Super intimate getaway

Great place to relax as a couple,beautiful sunsets, deck , dock and access to the lake and also really liked the park with trails off Recreation road only minutes away.

Island Bliss

This is the perfect spot for a single or couple. Everything you could need is here and it's right on the beautiful warm lake. We really enjoyed our time here and everything went smoothly.

Lovely stay

This little studio cottage is a delight. The lakefront was wonderful watching that birds and all the water sounds. Spent time in the water and the kayak was a bonus, lovely spot to unwind

Unfortunately, I was very disappointed with this rental. There were several significant safety and property concerns that were not apparent from the listing.The driveway presented a serious safety concern and resulted in damage to my vehicle. There were also two sets of stairs leading to the waterfront that appeared unsafe and not properly constructed; one set had no handrail. The dock was unstable and heavily covered in duck feces, making it difficult and unpleasant to cross.The waterfront was also not accurately represented. What appeared in the listing to be a shoreline with a few water plants was actually more like a duck marsh, making it impractical to wade into the water.The studio's queen-size pull-out bed was also not a conventional pull-out mattress. It required an air mattress to be inflated each night and completely deflated each morning in order to fold the bed away and use the space as a couch. This was inconvenient and significantly limited the usability of the small studio.Another concern was the septic system. I was advised that it was a small system and that only one person could take a short shower at a time. This is important information for couples and should have been clearly disclosed before booking.I raised my concerns and after the matter was reviewed, I ultimately received only a 50% refund.Future guests should ask detailed questions about these issues before booking.

Waterfront Cabin

Beautiful spot on Shawnigan Lake with large windows, a great deck and pier to enjoy the lake. The Cabin had everything one needs for your stay. If it wasn't for the air mattress that proved to be very uncomfortable, it would have been perfect.

Small but beautifully arranged

A beautiful little place right at a lovely lake. Halfway between Victoria and Duncan. Calm and restful. Very attentive owner. Well supplied kitchen, I would most certainly return again.

Great place, but small!

Great location right on the lake with a lovely dock. However, I missed the fact that the only bed is a pull out couch which has a blow-up mattress. My back isn't great so will pay for that. But otherwise, the place has everything you need. Lovely deck and lake views.

Weekend getaway

Excellent little house, lovely view, amazing kitchen....every aid you could need. Traffic a little noisy. Helpful host and may I suggest that it is clear in the property details when booking that there will be extra taxes charged outside the platform. Thisis unusual so felt awkward and was difficult to understand. State up front and the transparency is appreciated. Would totally stay again.

Thank you for your lovely comments about The Lake House. We try to to make your stay the best we can. In the VRBO write up (under the photo's) about The Lake House, it states that PST and MRDT taxes are to be paid to the Owner. I am sorry that you missed that.

The location was beautiful

Beautiful spot, the kayak was a treat. The pull out bed was uncomfortable but we found ourselves wanting for nothing, it had everything you need!

The Lakehouse cabin a little gem!

This was our third stay at the Lakehouse and once again thoroughly enjoyed ourselves! It’s perfect for a couple or girlfriends getaway!

Lovely little lake house

Great little lake house. Nice dock to enjoy a coffee in the am or drinks in the evening. Good size deck to have dinner on and a BBQ to cook with. Kitchen was fully loaded with everything you could need to cook which was a very nice addition. Location was great, close to the food, the trestle and wineries. Bed was a pull out couch inflatable mattress so it was actually a decent sleep and never woke up sore at all. The host Lesia was extremely helpful and very prompt in her replies to ensure everything was perfect and that we could enjoy our stay to the fullest. I would recommend and would stay here again.

Our family has been at the Shawnigan Lake since 1979. We have watched our children play in the lake and now watch our grandchildren play in the lake. The Lake House is our happy place. What found memories we have and now we want our guests to create memories for themselves. In 2007 we decided to bring The Lake House up to modern day amenities with a big renovation and decided to rent it as a vacation rental.

What a great way to spend your holidays relaxing on the large deck drinking your favourite beverage and watching what is going on in Shawnigan Lake. Architecturally designed interior that maximizes the space for comfortable living. Newly renovated bathroom. BBQ with deck furniture and umbrella for your comfort. Photographs in the interior of what the lake looked like a 100 years ago but in a modern space.

The unique benefits of staying at The Lake House you have a free standing house right on the lake with very good privacy. The views are of Strathcona Bay over to the estuary with a multitude of wild life lives. You can sit on the balcony or take the shared double kayak (with life vests) and look for Bald Eagles, Ospreys, ducks, beavers (one chewed my tree down), minks, a variety of birds and fish etc.
