Sobre esta propriedade
Rustic & unique mountain top cabin with outdoor pavilion, perfect for a getaway.
The Mountaintop Homestead is a unique, very private, adults-only 3-story, rustic cabin located on Summerhouse Mountain on a working homestead/farm. It is best suited for people who are in the area to work, hunt and/or fish, people who want to experience farm living, or just to enjoy a quiet get-away. Although in a remote location, it's only 15 minutes to Walmart & local area restaurants & attractions. It's 45 minutes to downtown Chattanooga; and 1.5 hrs to Huntsville, Birmingham, & Nashville. It has a queen bed, a full bed, and lots of outdoor living space. Enjoy the convenience of WiFi, heating, AC, and more. We raise cows, pigs, chickens, turkeys and ducks, as well as fruit and vegetable gardens. We are always willing to share fresh eggs and other produce when available! Our farm dog, Mya, is very friendly and considers it her responsibility to welcome all new guests. Because introducing strange pets can be unpredictable, we request that you respect the no pet policy.

Excellent
This property is exactly what the listing said it was. A nice farm house with an attentive host. Mia, the farm dog, was a nice welcome party for when we pulled up to the house. Definitely recommend stying here if you grew up on a farm or are just looking to get away!

Sobre o anfitrião
Anfitrião: Dottie and Mike
We moved here about 13 years ago from Cocoa Beach, after my husband retired from the US Air Force. We fell in love with the place and have tried to create a peaceful farm life where we can be as self-sufficient as possible and play our guitars without disturbing anyone. The property has this very rustic and unique cabin on it so we decided to fix it up and invite people to stay and experience life out here. The animals are mostly very friendly - they all come when called and LOVE treats!
Por que o anfitrião escolheu essa propriedade
There are only eight families that live on Summerhouse Mountain and most of them own about 40 acres. Everyone is very nice and we all help each other. Our place is totally secluded and has an amazing bluff view of the Tennessee River, Sand Mountain and both peaks of Lookout Mountain. We appreciate being in the proverbial “middle of nowhere” - and still only 15 minutes from Walmart and good restaurants! The history of Summerhouse Mountain is interesting. After the Civil War, the founders of the city of Bridgeport wanted to build a “New York of the South”. When you bought a lot in town, you also got a small lot on the mountain. Malaria was rampant at that time so the citizens built cabins on the mountain lots to escape the mosquitoes in the summer. The women & children stayed in the cabins and the men worked in town and came up on the weekends. After the start of WWI, the women were no longer able to maintain the roads, and the cabins were abandoned. Our property was the site of this “summerhouse subdivision”, and to this day we find random bricks and bottles.
O que faz essa propriedade ser única?
The cabin is very unique. It was built from timber and stones off the property, as well as re-purposed materials from the local area. We didn’t build it, so some of the logic they used is still a mystery to us! The fireplace in the outdoor pavilion is what remains of a summer home built right after the Civil War.
