All in all, a unique and picturesque cottage. Loved waking up to the sounds of lobster boats making their way off offering an authentic Maine experience on Beals Island. As a horticultural person, I cannot say enough how stunning the short Seaduck Trail just minutes from the house is from a botanical point of view - a wet forest in all its beauty. (Of course, one of the most special preserves on the East Coast is right here - Great Wass Island, but because you cannot hike with dogs, we were unable to hike there). Beals Island is a quiet residential community and does not offer the usual touristy options, which we are trying to avoid! Therefore, a beautifully decorated, yet homey cottage (with a land boat to boot) really suited us. We had tranquil quiet time and great explorations throughout the region. We also appreciated the library of maritime literature and local guides and the well-stocked kitchen.

The host was amazing and very accomodating. Everything we needed was on site, house was very clean and orderly. Quiet neighborhood, very freindly community, and awesome views. The neighborhood deer and the boat lounge were added bonus to our stay.

What an amazing stay! The house is so charming and impeccably decorated. It has everything you could possibly need for a short or long stay. There are beautiful views of the harbor, and the hosts provided any information you could possibly need to make your stay easier from itineraries to restaurant recommendations. 10/10 I can't recommend more!

We had a wonderful stay at the cottage. The living room was comfortable with a view of the bridge and working harbor and the kitchen was well-outfitted. We enjoyed exploring all the furnishings and decor! The hosts provided fantastic information about the history and current attractions in the area. The weather didn’t let us spend much time on the boat but it was fun to have it there. We hope to stay again in the future.

In a quintessential Maine lobstering village, this spotless home is creatively decorated in vintage items from various eras. Everywhere you look there is something else to admire. The cool boat hangout was an additional perk. Quiet area with beautiful views. And within a 1/2 hour there are many stunning beaches, preserves and trails, a Hannaford's Supermarket and a great tavern/restaurant called The Public House. Couple of small grocery/convenient stores, a pizza take out place in Jonesport, right over the bridge. Also can buy fresh seafood right on the docks. This is the place for you if you want to chill and explore nature and not see rows of T shirt shops! For us the whole vibe was magical. But if you are looking for lots of nightlife, shopping and restaurants, then you may want to consider Bar Harbor instead. Btw, Rich is a funny, engaging and considerate host who provided tons of helpful info. I'd give 10 stars if I could!

Nice quiet neighborhood, once you get over the shock of being in a traditional New England 18th century home and appreciate the beautiful setting you feel right at home. Richard was extremely helpful in providing all the resources needed to.make the stay on the island great.

Good house, remote location

Overall the house was good and had everything we needed. The interior was well decorated and fit the area. The boat was a fun little add on and we watched the sunrise from the upper deck. The house is pretty remote so if you are looking for restaurants close by you will struggle to find anything

Glad Lindsey had a great stay. Note: at our cottage, guests are surrounded by water, fresh seafood, and spectacular hiking. Across Beals Island bridge, there are a couple authentic local joints serving up good pizza etc. The next town up the coast, only 30 min drive, boasts La Laiterie, a world-class bakery; Flora, an elite dining experience; Masons Brewing; Helen’s Restaurant (adored by Martha Stewart); the Public House - and more. We’ll defer to prospective guests as to whether 30 min qualifies as “remote”

Wonderful home - beautiful location - peaceful

We had a lovely week. The home is beautifully set up and very well kept. Everything was as expected. Host is wonderful, attentive and provided a lot of research on itineraries and suggestions for the area. This home is well located between Acadia, Machia, Lubec. I would love to go back!

Wonderful House, wonderful host

Rich and Julie are the ultimate “virtual” hosts, they have well crafted guidebooks for Downeast Maine that were invaluable. The house is excellent including the record player and the vibe the house creates. From Beals and beyond the region is well worth a visit and we hope to be back to the region/house in the not too distant future!

Serene in Maine's Downeast

We highly recommend staying at Bridge View on Beals Island. Lovely home in a picturesque and serenely quiet location. Great deck and private yard. Rick is a fabulous host and very responsive to questions. House is centrally located for anyone who wants to explore Downeast Maine. We had great food at Helen's in Machias and Chipman's Wharf in Milbridge.

Bridge View was everything we hoped for and more. From the moment we arrived, we felt completely relaxed and welcomed by the charm of this beautiful coastal cottage. The home is thoughtfully decorated with cozy midcentury Maine vibes, and the renovated scallop boat lounge is such a unique and memorable touch.Waking up to the sight and sound of boats just a stone’s throw away, along with the salty ocean air, was magical. We loved walking through the quiet fishing village where everyone was super friendly, and exploring the stunning Downeast coastline was simply amazing. The location feels peaceful and authentic — far away from crowded tourist spots, yet close enough for incredible day trips.The cottage itself was spotless, comfortable, and incredibly charming. You can really feel the care and attention put into every detail. We played games, laughed and loved listening to the vinyl collection. We truly took a step back in time and truly cherished family time. It was the perfect place to unwind, reconnect, and experience the true beauty of Maine.Hosts were so responsive and had so many great recommendations for us for local areas. Wow! We enjoyed a great week at Rose Cottage. It’s a perfect place to explore Downeast Maine. Beds are comfy, house is immaculate, kitchen fun to cook in (love the vintage touches AND it’s quite functional as there are lots of pots, pans etc to make delicious meals). (As a side note, the WiFi worked great when we needed to attend to a few work related matters while away.) Best of all, the fresh Maine air and views of the water from the house can’t be beat.We took advantage of Rich and Julie’s detailed itinerary suggestions and enjoyed sailing on the Polaris Jack, visiting Jasper Beach, hiking Great Wass island and touring the Downeast Institute (to name a few). Highly recommend this rental for anyone looking to unplug and enjoy exploring this special part of Maine.

A most Enjoyable Stay in Down East Maine

We had a wonderful stay at this lovely cottage. Quaint, peaceful, picturesque. The cottage is well maintained and is noticeably decorated with an attention detail which has a warm and welcoming feel to it. The owners are thorough and very responsive to any questions or inquiries. I personally spoke with Rich and he is great to work with. You can immediately sense that he is genuinely interested in each and every one of his guests having a great vacation in this quaint fishing village. I would highly recommend this property.

A treasure all its own!

First - the host could not have been more helpful, and created a great resource library for everything Maine! Second - the house was just fun, although the stairs were a little daunting for aging knees. Third - inside the house was a fun treasure hunt. We so enjoyed staying there. Comfortable, cozy. Beds great, shower very good. Little touches - fabulous. Fourth - Beal's Island was such a great retreat from the busy world we live in. Down to earth folks, hard working, pride in their life. Enjoyed it all!

Perfect Downeast retreat

We loved our late summer getaway to Beals. The house is well-stocked and chic, with quirky mid-mo details (and gorgeous harbor views) everywhere you look. Rich is an exceptionally attentive host, providing various itineraries depending on your interests (hiking, beaching, etc.) as well as securing several discounts and perks (free bottle of wine!) with local vendors. Visitors should be prepared to drive to most local attractions; Beals is definitely a more remote location. And larger parties should note that there is not a dishwasher. Neither of these bothered us, because quiet and peaceful was what we were after, and we're apartment dwellers used to handwashing dishes...but it might be an issue for others. Check-in and out was a breeze.

Beautiful cottage and lovely location

The cottage and its location were exactly as described on the website. In fact, it was even better than we imagined. Hundred year old cottage just recently renovated with everything you need in the kitchen and a grill on the deck. Fabulous view from both decks of the harbor. Wonderful to be in a village with a working lobster fleet and neighbors who were extremely friendly and generous. The owners were so helpful and provided great service prior to and throughout our stay. We feel like they are now friends. The location provides access to the whole downeast region. So many wonderful places to hike and great food everywhere we went. We especially liked the Bayside Takeout that we could walk to in 5 minutes and loved the sunsets on Cranberry Cove just around the corner. Highly recommend! Hope we get to go back.
