AuSable Luxury Accommodation!

Enjoy a wonderful luxury home experience on one of northern Michigan's most famous rivers. The two-and-a-half bathroom home has three bedrooms and two loft rooms that are versatile and can accommodate a number of guests. The outdoor deck (riverside), the many windows, and the long kitchen bar are among the many unique features. However, the Rumford fireplace with Black River Michigan stone on the exterior is the centerpiece attraction. The house also features a three-zone geothermal heating and cooling system. The upper lofts are reached by ascending an iron-rod spiral staircase.

The ground-floor bedrooms feature foam beds. The master bathroom includes a stone-tiled Jacuzzi tub and shower highlighted with inlaid Petoskey stone. WiFi access and Dish Network satellite television are also available. In addition, you can access your personal Netflix account via Apple TV if desired.

Outdoor activities include easy trail access to the nearby Rayburn property (state-owned) and/or Hanson Hills on the edge of town for hiking, biking, snowshoeing, downhill and cross country skiing, or disc golf, depending on the season. In addition, there are miles of two-tracks, as well as hiking and skiing trails in nearby national forests. Kayak and canoe rental is just five minutes away in downtown Grayling. The local bike shop also has rentals for the town's many bike paths. And of course, the AuSable River provides some of the best fly-fishing in the country!

River access is just steps away from the house, where the water is clear and shallow, and the river bottom sandy for leisurely walks in the great AuSable.

Come and enjoy the river amid privacy and cedar trees all around.

Incredible River House

A beautiful home on a great part of the river. Walkable shallows allow you to cool off and explore. Nice shaded backyard gives you a front seat to watch the many boats that pass by throughout the weekend. If you plan to be in the area, this is a prime spot.

Modern river house

We enjoyed our stay at the river house. Had to cut it short due to a power outage (presumably related to wild fire just south of grayling). But it's an awesome home- very comfortable, in a quiet, private setting.

Beautiful House

We rented this house for Thanksgiving Weekend and were really impressed with how beautiful the house and setting were. The view of the river from every room on the back of the house is stunning, especially at sunset. The house itself is new with a great layout and comfortable furniture. We rent houses in northern Michigan at least twice a year, and this was by far the best maintained and equipped that we've encountered. Well-equipped kitchen, lots of pantry items, a variety of K-cups for the coffee maker, plenty of fire wood, Dish TV with a couple of premium channels, internet connection, plus the owners arranged for a pack n play and high chair for our daughter. There's a nice walking trail through the woods, and the yard is entirely secluded by tall trees so it's a very peaceful setting. River access is also great if you are visiting in the summer. It's obvious that the owners and property manager take a great deal of care maintaining this property.

Beautiful and quiet.

The property is gorgeous! The setting is spectacular! Very clean and comfortable. We were unsure of the safety of the dock. There were missing deck boards so we advised our guests not to walk on the dock. Also there is quite a large step to get to a small platform detached from the dock and then another large step to the dock. The outdoor furniture was not so good either. Additionally, we had wi-fi but in the description we didn't read that a streaming device was needed. No antenna connection for tv either. We did not miss this much though as we aren't much for tv and such. We loved the river. It was easy to kayak up stream then float/kayak back to the property. It would gave been bonus if we could have seen the river from the deck when seated but the bushes were too high, coming over the railing. Also, the kayaks could use some attention. Our guess is that they were very nice kayaks in their day but most of the straps on one of the kayaks were gone so it was a little tough to move around. Overall, we would stay here again for the property and the comfort of the cottage.

Just a little disappointed!

The location is great. Very secluded, great river front area with fire pit. Very close to restaurants and grocery stores. You can here expressway noise however. I research our getaways extensively. The reviews all gave 5 stars!! I never rent a VRBO with out an inside fire place. This house was very proud of this beautiful real fireplace in the middle of the house. Except after i booked for a weekend in June we found out the fireplace cant be used for June-September. I felt mis-led a bit. Disappointing. The deck needs power washed badly. It rained during our stay and the mold on the deck made it slippery. The screen was dirty and had holes in it. Outside furniture is limited and weather checked. I would recommend bringing your own lawn chairs for down by the fire. The hedges are so tall in front of the deck it blocks the view of the river from the table in the house. Communication with owner was fair. Some of my questions were answered, some were not. The drain plug in the tub doesn't work. Hope this helps the next renters.

Terrific location and beautiful cottage.

Loved the location, cottage, furnishing, and decor. The check in was a bit frustrating. When I received an email with the contract, I was told that we would be receiving another email a couple days prior to our stay with further details. About a week prior to our stay, I sent the property manager an email asking for an access code; and if there was any further information we needed. I never received a response. I sent another email the day before; and again, no response. When we arrived at the cottage; I hoped they had an electronic key that would simply unlock at the 4:00 checkin, but that want the case. It took a call to VRBO Help, and a message to the owners, before the owners sent a message with the access code. The entire process delayed our access about an hour, but once we got in, we loved our stay. The home is very pretty and nicely appointed. I would definitely stay there again, but would try to have better communication with the property manager in advance.

Beautiful secluded river front home

This is a really beautiful home! We had a lovely, relaxing long weekend enjoying the river, large deck, and spacious home. Not ideal for those hoping to work remotely as the internet wasnā€™t great. The large windows everywhere are perfect for watching the sun rise with a cup of coffee.

The home is beautiful and situated on the AuSable. The whole back of the home facing the river is floor to ceiling windows. The only drawback is the wifi provider doesnā€™t provide reliable service. But you are here for the River and the woods so enjoy the environment.

Exquisite getaway

We have stayed at this VRBO multiple times. It is one of the nicest, most well-equipped homes we've stayed at. The location can't be beat, the hosts are wonderful, and the house is both beautiful and comfortable. The beds are comfortable, and the kitchen is very well stocked. You won't regret staying here!!

Nathan and Randi Foster purchased the property in 2006, returning it to the Foster Family after three decades of various ownership.

In 1975, Nathanā€™s grandfather Dud Foster purchased a large swath of land at the headwaters of the AuSable, near Grayling, named by early trappers as Breakfast Point. Dud eventually subdivided his holding it into several parcels. He saw something in the river and surrounding cedar swamp that intrigued him. He turned the swamp into little hobbits of habitability one truck load of sand and a handful of Petosky stones at time.

Nathanā€™s other grandfather Art Lindauer, who lived his life as an architect and farmer, designed the home. Inspired by famous architects before him, Artā€™s vision and unique ideas have come to life inside and out. Some notable features include stained concrete floors, spiral staircase, natural light, large windows, diamond windows in the lofts, the Rumford fireplace, tight white stucco with a splash of color. The drawings of the River House at Breakfast Point hang in the walkway overlooking the great room in tribute to his efforts.
