THE WRIGHT HOUSE is your Apostle Island sanctuary. 18 private secluded acres just 1.5 miles from Bayfield, WI. Come here to slow everything down and focus on what matters. Perfect for small groups, bridal wedding parties, and couples or friends looking to escape for the weekend. Many guests choose to stay for a week.

The Wright House is a private home situated on a bluff overlooking a forested valley with breathtaking views overlooking 12 of Lake Superiorā€™s Apostle Islands. You can also see as far as three states, Michigan, Minnesota and Wisconsin.

THE SPACE

The Wright House property has an instantly calming effect as soon as you drive up the winding driveway towards the house located in a clearing on the brow of the bluff. The endlessly changing panoramic skyline over Lake Superior and the Islands never ceases to enchant you.

Inspired by the architect Frank Lloyd Wright, the designer of this home has curated a layout with every window framing the estate grounds, with lake views visible from almost every room. A signature wall of glass spanning three levels, and facing the Lake allows you to feel connected to the natural world, along with providing a sense of possibility and freedom as you gaze out over land and sky and the occasional soaring eagle.

Guest access

Youā€™ll have access to the upper three levels of the house, yard, grounds and all decks. The ground level apartment and garage are private for the caretakers who are there to maintain the extensive grounds on the property. The apartment has its own private entrance which is completely separate from the main house. You may occasionally see the caretakers as they split their time between the apartment and another residence. They are always very respectful of the guest spaces and tend to keep to themselves so you may not see them at all. You should feel free to enjoy the Wright House and make it your home during your stay.

Book group retreat

The pictures of the house and property were amazing and I just wasnā€™t to sure about it. Then, when we arrived, we were amazed and awestruck with the place. I didnā€™t even want to finish unloading my vehicle, I just wanted to take in the view. I was also glad we chose to stay in the first night and make our meal. The kitchen was well equipped and spacious for multiple people to work in. Several friends commented that we didnā€™t care if we never left the place. The bedrooms were wonderful and comfortable and perfect. There was plenty of room to spread out and enjoy one another and still have some personal space. The communication prior to check in and reminders for checking out was great. It was hard to leave and return to reality. Itā€™s nice to know this little slice of paradise is not far from home.

AMAZING

We had the best time at the Wright house!!!! The property and home itself are absolutely STUNNING! We truly didnā€™t want to leave the house each day. The host, Chelsa, was incredibly responsive for any questions we had - and the check in and check out processes were very easy. We showed up to fresh flowers and chocolate and it was so sweet! The house also has everything you would need! We are trying to find more reasons to go back to Bayfield just to stay at the Wright House! Thank you so much Chelsa, for a wonderful stay!

Special 50th Anniversary Celebration/5 night stay

This property gives family and extended family all the feels of staying in the lap of luxury. The roads to get to the house seem a little off the beaten path, however once you get there; you will experience a spectacular view of Madeline Island and Basswood Island. The kitchen is fully equipped with anything and everything youā€™ll need to cook your meals as you wish. There is a gas grill as well as a wood burning stove for having relaxing summer fires with unbelievable starry nights. We did think that the refrigerator could have been a little larger for the size kitchen there. We had 2 chest coolers set up on the deck with all the canned beer, soda and water. The beds are clean and comfortable and there are many beds. The VRBO app states that there are 2 king beds in two of the bedrooms and only 1 of the rooms has a king bed. The bathrooms are clean and functional, however a bit difficult to have only 2 showers available for our group of 12 people. Make sure you bring your own paper plates, napkins etc as buying groceries in Bayfield is a very expensive way to grab the necessities. There is one local grocery store and one local liquor store which are pretty expensive. We brought the majority of our groceries from home. We ate out ate a couple of the the local restaurants The Pickled Herring and Good Thyme are both amazing. There are also many local wineries, breweries and orchards in the area. Overall, the entire experience at The Wright House/Bayfield area was AMAZING!
