Welcome to Hale Ulu Kealoha - "The House of Growing Love"
In the historic town of Hilo, Hawaii on the east side of the island where tourists mingle with locals and really experience the 'Spirit of Aloha', we welcome you to stay in our home to enjoy Hilo and surrounding areas. The two story house features the upstairs main living area with a full kitchen, dining area, big living room, three bedrooms and one full bathroom. The kitchen includes a range for cooking and baking, microwave, and full size refrigerator. The dining area seats six guests comfortably. The living room boasts an upright piano as well as TV, free Wi-Fi, and books to acquaint you with our island.

The full downstairs floor is centered around a large rec room with lots of couch seating, a large flat screen streaming TV, and one private sleeping area (perfect for teens and young adults). There is also another bathroom with a large tiled, walk-in shower. The laundry room for the house is on this bottom level and available for your use.

Hale Ulu Kealoha sleeps up to 8 guests.

Fly into Hilo International Airport (12 minute drive) or Kona Airport (90 minute drive). We highly recommend spending a few days exploring Hilo and surrounding areas including Rainbow Falls (5 minute drive), Kaumana Caves (10 minute drive), Imiloa Astronomy Center, Volcanoes National Park (45 minute drive), historic Hamakua corridor and inspiring local shops and restaurants just a few minutes drive (or walk) from the house. Great location

Large spacious house just minutes from downtown. There was plenty of room for my whole family to spread out. Kitchen was fully supplied with all the kitchen ware you could possible need making cooking super easy. The large downstairs den was a perfect hangout spot for teenagers.

Very nice accommodations for a party of 8. Very convenient location and necessities that made our stay carefree!Kindly note that we bought 2 small fans. Could not use the overhead fan in our bedroom as it was dusty, but no big deal!!

The overall stay was great. Fans were provided throughout the home was awesome. Basement area was huge. Loved the bathrooms lots of towels. Just a few minor issues. Blinds in bedrooms were difficult to use. At times the traffic was loud. I definitely would recommend this place to family and friends.

This home was great for a family. Large comfortable rooms and plenty of room for family activities. The kitchen had everything we needed. The location was near sites we wanted to visit. Although we didn’t have air conditioning, we were comfortable most of the time, except the first night. We arrived at night and the windows had been closed. It was uncomfortably warm late into the night. That night we also heard traffic noise— honking horns on the street in front of us. We enjoyed out time at this house and would recommend it.

The house had classic Hawaii vibe, felt welcome and comfortable for my family of 5. The location was perfect. 20 min walk or 5 min drive to Hilo town. We had a lot of fun during our stay. The house was really clean and maintained. Thank you!

So much space!

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: This vacation house is really nice and big! Upstairs is the main house with bedrooms, kitchen and living room. Then the downstairs has a giant rec room with lots of sofas and a big TV. It was a perfect spot for our kids to hang out together while the adults could be more relaxed upstairs. We had 4 adults and 3 kids for a week and everyone loved this place. We hope to visit Hilo again and stay here!

Nice location near downtown Hilo, this house had everything

Rating Details: The property manager was very helpful. The vacation rental was spotless. I was very happy with the location. I was more than satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: This old house turned out to be a very good fit for out group of 8. It’s an old home, as are most in Hilo, but the place and its location grew on us during our 5 night stay. No A/C, but it was not really needed during our stay in December. All the rooms have ceiling fans and screened windows. In addition, there are several portable standing fans that can be used in any room. The property owner provides many extra portable fans for use wherever needed. There are two bathrooms, one on the main floor with a large shower, toilet and two sinks. The basement bathroom has a very large shower room with two shower heads, one toilet and on sink. The basement also has a separate private bedroom (full size bed) and a very large bonus room with lots of comfortable couches (at least one is a pull out sofa bed) The laundry room is also in the basement with one extra large top loader and two large dryers. The three upstairs bedrooms all have queen sized beds. Amenities are generous! Although the home is located on a very busy street, the street behind it are quiet and are excellent for morning walks. Although we were not overwhelmed with the home and location initially, it felt like home by the end of our stay.

Hilo Trip

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: What a lovely surprise! This house was perfect for our large family, traveling with three generations to Hilo. We normally stay on the Kona side but decided to fly into Hilo from Honolulu and this house is maybe 15 minutes from the airport. The home is in town and convenient to the historic downtown area. We did not know there was so many places to eat and the farmers market is open everyday. Rainbow falls is a must see and the scenic drive up the Hamakua coast is so beautiful. After spending all day out it was very relaxing to have separate spaces in the house for everyone to do their own thing. There are two living rooms with one upstairs and the other downstairs. Well stocked with all essentials and convenient for stay, definitely worth checking out when you’re in Hilo.

Conveniently Located Hilo Home

The house is located on a major street (for Hilo), so you do get some minor traffic noise; however, it was an excellent home-base for my family. It is conveniently located to anywhere you needed to visit in Hilo town. It was a quiet neighborhood (across the prison) and the side street (where the carport is located) had very little traffic and it was easy to come & go. Finding the light in the carport at night was a bit of a challenge and the the walkway to the front door was dark, (motion sensor lighting for the carport & walkway would have been good), the little solar path lights did not turn on. The house itself is a typical old-fashioned Hilo single wall house that has been well maintained with upgraded bathrooms and a renovated downstairs was more space than we needed. The house was very clean and the beds were comfortable with enough towels, extra pillows and blankets. It was everything we needed for our stay, it was very spacious enough for 7 adults (even though the dining table only fits 6, though we made it work). We knew there wasn't any air conditioners, so thank you for the multiple fans. Though, really, the house didn't get that hot and the cross-breeze was enough to keep everyone cool. The piano was an extra enjoyable treat for my brother to play. We would stay here again. Thank you for allowing us to enjoy the home.
