Watch the dolphins on the ferry to La Gomera, then drive for 1 hr 10 mins through amazing woods and mountains, before arriving in Taguluche.
This picturesque village of 40 houses hidden away between the volcanic mountains, offers a quiet, beautiful escape for anyone wanting to relax.
At the end of the road, park the car and walk down a stone and grass footpath( uneven and not suitable for anyone who is not fit) that winds through the palm trees for 200 m before you reach SUNSET RETREAT. Our house is at 100 metres above sea level. Enjoy the completely private terrace, with sunbeds and outdoor shower, a large garden with mango trees and palm trees. The evenings are long and the sunsets into
the sea are amazing. The night sky offers stunning views (no light pollution here) and the Milky Way is easily spotted.
This old tomato packing house, completely renovated, offers a kitchen, large bathroom and a bright living room with an open plan bedroom. This summer (2024) we have had a new roof put onto the house. It looks great and it will be quieter inside as it is a lot more insulated.
The same footpath continues down to the coast with a great headland with views along the entire coast. You can see the old Pier, still standing. The village has a church, BBQ area, bar/restaurant, another rocky beach and many walks.
If you want to get away from it all, this is the perfect place for you!!!!

Privacy, peace and sunsets

We really enjoyed our stay at Sunset Retreat. It is so peaceful sitting on the very large patio, watching the sunset and then seeing the stars come out. Fantastic view of the Milky Way. The house was lovely and had everything we needed, including an outdoor (unheated) shower that we used a lot after coming back sweaty from walks. The bed, in particular, was very comfortable, but apart from sleeping we generally lived on the patio. We walked somewhere everyday, sometimes in the valley including to Arure and the length of the Barranco de Guaranel but mainly drove to other areas to walk so got quite used to the twisty, narrow road (although one day a thunderstorm resulted in water and rocks covering the road - best to stay put if one is forecast!). The house might not suit everyone as it is remote and 300m down a rough path from the road, but we loved it. Communications with the hosts were great and fast and if we'd had problems I'm sure we would have had a quick reply.

Stunning location

The house is exactly as stated a nice rustic home at a premium spot of the island. We enjoyed two weeks there! The house matches the description. The room is bigger than the pictures suggest. Be advised that you will need to do a lot of driving on winding roads that take 1h+ for 30-40km (for us its part of the holiday, driving down the valley is super scenic and does not get boring). We especially liked: - location, location, location - one of the nicest places on the island if you fancy peace and quiet - challenging and scenic hikes just around the corner - outdoor shower - terrace with sunset over El Hierro and La Palma at the horizon - outdoor equipment at the terrace - very clean What could be improved: - loud compressor of the fridge - some more maintenance/attention to detail concerning maintenance (e.g. view protection at the fence, cabinets; there is nothing "broken", but there is considerable wear) All in all recommendable if you like rustic, non-touristic places off the grid and want some real peace and quiet!

Thank you . We are really pleased that you enjoyed your stay. We will look into the noisy refrigerator..... perhaps it wasn't level. The fridge isn't near the bed but as the house is open plan you can hear it. The strong winds blew down the palm leaves covering the fence. We will take them away completely. Es ist ein super Ort, um in Abgeschiedenheit und Ruhe Zeit zu verbringen. Eine geniale Aussicht. Es steht alles zur Verfügung was man braucht. Die Küche ist super eingerichtet. Kühlschrank, Tiefkühler, Microwelle und kleiner Backofen. Wir haben die Zeit sehr genossen.

Unbeschwerter Urlaub

Ich habe in diesem Haus ein paar Wochen Urlaub verbracht. Das Haus entspricht exakt der Beschreibung und ist mit allem ausgestattet was man für einen unbeschwerten Urlaub braucht. Auf der Terrasse lässt sich wunderbar der Sonnenuntergang beobachten und chillen. Bei meiner Ankunft war sogar eine Flasche Champagner kaltgestellt. Es war auch alles sehr sauber. Die Vermieter Barbara und Jose sind sehr nett und hilfreich und antworten immer sofort bei Problemen. Mir halfen sie sogar eine mechanische Werkstätte zu suchen als ich bei der Anfahrt eine Autopanne hatte. Ich kann diese Unterkunft uneingeschränkt empfehlen. Man muss sich einfach auf die doch recht lange Anreise einstellen, da die Unterkunft ziemlich abgelegen ist. Für mich alleine waren die gebuchten 6 Wochen doch etwas zu lange und bin daher ein paar Tage früher abgereist.

Für uns war die Einsamkeit und Abgelegenheit genau das, was wir gesucht haben. Die Ruhe ist einzigartig. Man hört die Vögel, die Grillen, den Wind und das Meer und ab und zu ein paar Glocken der Ziegen. Das Haus hat eine wunderbare Energie und ist einfach und liebevoll hergerichtet. Es ist alles da, was man braucht. Der Anfahrtsweg ist wie schon beschrieben mit den vielen Serpentinen gewöhnungsbedürftig - man braucht ca. 25 Minuten zur Hauptstraße GM1. Der Fußweg(ca. 300m bergab) ist ein Wanderpfad, den wir gerne gegangen sind, um die Abgeschiedenheit zu genießen. Der Kontakt mit den Vermietern war leicht und unkompliziert. Barbara hat stets sofort auf eine Nachricht geantwortet, das war total schön. Und José haben wir im Fährhafen auf Teneriffa kurz kennengelernt - er ist ein sehr warmherziger, sympathischer Mann! Wir kommen wieder!!!

Un rève en pleine nature

Nous gardons un bin souvenir de cette petite maison dans une nature préservée. Certes, c'est loin de l'agitation urbaine, la route pour arriver à Tuguluche est étroite et il faut marcher pour rejoindre la maison, mais sur place le calme est tellement appréciable.

paradiesische Lage

Eine schöne große Terrasse, bequem eingerichtet mit Möbeln zum Essen, Loungen und Liegen (und sogar einer Außendusche), 140m über dem Meer mit allabendlichem Sonnenuntergangsspektakel. Etwas später dann der volle Sternenhimmel (Milchstraße garantiert) und - unser Highlight - die "Gesänge" der Gelbschnabelsturmtaucher! Unbedingt voher mal im Netz anhören, sonst denkt man, man wird von einer Horde wilder Tiere überfallen... So ist es aber völlig ungefährlich und ein allabendliches großes Spektakel (zumindest Ende April und Anfang Mai, als wir dort waren). Ansonsten ein zweckmäßig, aber geschmackvoll eingerichtets Haus, in dem wir uns jedoch nur zum Kochen und Schlafen aufgehalten haben. Auch haben wir einige sehr windige Abende und Nächte erlebt, aber das Haus hat uns gut geschützt - und ohne irgendwelche Nebengeräusche oder Lärm-Verstärkungen (wie in einem anderen Beitrag beschrieben). Lediglich schade, dass man dann das Rauschen des Meeres nicht mehr hört. Gute Nachricht auch, dass es (entgegen einiger Kommentare weiter unten) den Weg zum "Haus-Strand" weiterhin gibt: bei den drei Häusern unterhalb am mittleren rechts vorbei (direkt an der Mauer entlang), dann um einen großen Felsbrocken herum und dahinter im Zickzackkurs den Weg hinunter. Ist mit 15min Wegzeit ganz gut beschrieben, allerdings muss man dabei 140 Höhenmeter am teilweise recht rutschigen Hang überwinden. Der "Strand" ist eher ein Ufer aus großen Felsbrocken, zwischen denen zu schwimmen uns jedenfalls zu gefährlich war. Zum Naßmachen und anschließendem Sonnen reicht es aber allemal - und man ist mit ziemlicher Sicherheit ungestört. Zum Baden dann besser an die Sandstrände in Alojera, Valle Gran Rey oder Vallehermoso, die alle (trotz ganz unterschiedlicher Luftlinie) ca 1/2 Autostunde entfernt sind. Dem Restaurant im Ort ist leider der Koch abhanden gekommen, so dass man dort nur Getränke (sowie Brot und ein paar Kleinigkeiten zum Einkaufen) bekommt. Zum nächstgelegenen Restaurant in Alojera sinds dann wieder 20 Autominuten. Alles in allem jedoch ein herrliches Fleckchen Erde und allemal eine uneingeschränkte Empfehlung!

Yes, the path down to the sea is a little steep, but in La Gomera, and Taguluche in particular, everything is a little bit extreme : ) The walk down to the coastline is well worth the effort, in my opinion. There is a rock that has natural 'steps' into the sea. Although when the tide is high it is difficult to find. The snorkelling is great . As there are plenty of rocks, there are plenty of fish to see. Thanks for the detailed review, and we hope to see you again. I will investigate into exactly what happened to the chef in the local Restaurant.

Paradies am Rande der Insel

Wir verbrachten elf wunderbare Tage in der Unterkunft. Das check-in war sehr unkompliziert und die Kommunikation reibungslos. Bei Fragen wurde innerhalb kürzester Zeit geantwortet und geholfen. Außerdem fanden wir die Lage einmalig und der Name "Sunset Retreat" könnte es nicht besser treffen. Die Veranda ist ein Traum und die Hängematte lädt zum verweilen ein. Das Bett ist super bequem und die Bettdecke hielt auch bei etwas kühleren Nächten warm. Alles in allem ein perfekter Aufenthalt. Vielen Dank für diese schöne Zeit!

We spent eleven wonderful days in the accommodation. The check-in was very uncomplicated and the communication went smoothly. Questions were answered and helped within a very short time. We also found the location unique and the name "Sunset Retreat" couldn't have been more apt. The porch is a dream and the hammock invites you to linger. The bed is super comfortable and the duvet kept you warm even on cooler nights. All in all a perfect stay. Thank you for this nice time. We are very pleased that you have enjoyed your stay.

Schönes Haus, phantastische Aussicht, super Bett!

Wer abgeschieden wohnen möchte und das Kurvenfahren nicht scheut, ist hier genau richtig. Das Haus bietet alles, was man braucht, die riesige Terasse ist ein weiterer Wohnraum mit tollem Blick aufs Meer und das Bett ist so gut, wie zu Hause; mit doppeltbreiter Decke für kuschelige Schläfer. Einzig das Meer ist nicht zu Fuß erreichbar. Hin und wieder reißt wohl auch ein Wanderweg durch Wind und Regen ab. Was vorher noch stimmte, war bei unserem Aufenthalt nicht mehr richtig. Wer baden will, muss Auto fahren. Aber zum Wandern ist das Haus ein guter Ausgangspunkt. Ach, und laut ist es nicht. Bei entsprechendem Wetter hört man den Wind und den Regen, so wie man mitten in der Natur den Wind und den Regen hört. Kann sehr aufregend und schön sein :-)

extrem lauter Bungalow

Wir hatten 14 Tage in diesem Bungalow gebucht. Leider mussten wir nach 3 Nächten, in denen wir kaum schlafen konnten, in ein anderes Ferienhaus wechseln. Der Bungalow ist mit einem Wochenendgartenhäuschen vergleichbar, dünne Wände, hauchdünnes Dach ohne jegliche Dämmung, so dass es drinnen extrem laut ist, sogar lauter als draußen. Schlafen ist rein gar nicht möglich!!! Von den Vermietern wurde uns geraten mit Ohrstöpseln zu schlafen aber nicht mal das war möglich. Ein Entgegenkommen von seitens der Vermieter gab es leider überhaupt nicht. Geld wurde eingezogen und danach musste man sehen, wie man klarkommt. Wir können den Bungalow leider überhaupt gar nicht empfehlen! Victoria & Matthi

We are very sorry to hear that you feel this way about Sunset Retreat. I think that we have described our house very accurately on the website. We suggested ear plugs because there was a weather alert for very strong winds when you arrived. You wrote to say that you were scared by the noises at night. The house has trees all around, mountains behind and the ocean in front. So, yes, there are noises at night during a storm. The weather conditions during the Winter time, can be stormy and unluckily, that the storm came during your 2 weeks at Sunset Retreat. The web page photos and description show clearly just how remote Sunset Retreat is. We regularly stay at Sunset Retreat and sleep very well, as do all the other guests who have given us 5 stars. Your comments on the structure of the house are completely incorrect . The house conforms with all of the building regulations and conditions . The roof is perfectly well insulated . It has the original zinc roof with a second wooden roof below that. Once again we are very sorry about how you feel, but we have acted in accordance to the cancellation policy that we have with the web page. It is the Moderate option, and states very clearly that a full refund will be given if you cancel before 30 days. For any future guests, the house is a little remote, and if you are a city dweller, you may feel slightly scared by the forces of nature. Staying at Sunset Retreat can be an adventure! Perhaps it is not for the light hearted!

Great for a relaxed holiday

We had a good time at Sunset Retreat. The house itself is renovated and furnished with a lot of thought and love. The place is remote which we enjoyed very much. Apart from some hikers passing by it feels like you are quite on your own. And the sunsets are stunning. Given that there is no bus connection you need to have a car or arrange your tours via taxi (what we did). Most of the time it is very quiet ('muy tranquilo' as all the taxi drivers said) and you can hear only birds, the wind and sometimes waves crashing down at the cliffs. The only annoying sounds are the dogs in the valley. When they are left alone, they tend to bark and howl with a rather disturbing stamina. The communication with Barbara was very easy. Due to the schedule change of the ship on our arrival we had to change the handover plans for the keys on last minute. Barbara was very helpful and accomodating. When you visit Sunset Retreat don't miss the sunset on the nearby beach Playa de Guariñen. I would say the name Sunset Retreat says it all. :-) A nice place to be on your own, to relax and enjoy the beauty of the sunsets.

Wer Ruhe, Natur, Abgeschiedenheit und schöne Sonnenuntergänge liebt ist hier genau richtig. Eine große Terrasse mit Blick auf das Meer und ein liebevoll eingerichtetes Häuschen. Man sollte sich nur darauf einrichten, dass man zum Einkaufen ca. 15 km fahren muss, was uns aber nicht gestört hat. Wir wurden von den Vermietern herzlich begrüßt und eine Flasche Sekt stand im Kühlschrank 🙂! Insgesamt sehr empfehlenswert!

If you love peace, nature, seclusion and beautiful sunsets, this is the place for you. A large terrace with a view of the sea and a lovingly furnished house. You should only be prepared for the fact that you have to drive about 15 km to shop, which didn't bother us. We were warmly welcomed by the landlords and a bottle of sparkling wine was in the fridge 🙂! Overall, highly recommended Thank you

Ruheoase mit Ausblick

Sunset Retreat ist eine Ruheoase in einem kleinen Dorf auf La Gomera mit direktem Ausblick aufs Meer. Das Haus ist einfach aber mit allem ausgestattet was man im Urlaub braucht. Das Bett ist super bequem und schlafen kann man herrlich. Wer Ruhe und Abgeschiedenheit geniessen möchte, der ist hier absolut richtig. Alles funktioniert warmes Wasser, Heizung falls es mal kalt wird, Küche. Die Terasse hat Liegen, bequeme sessel und einen Tisch. Das Haus liegt abgeschieden und der Weg nach Taguluche ist mit vielen Kurven verbunden, aber es ist eine gute Strasse. Einkaufsmöglichkeiten sind etwas entfernt, d.h. mal kurz frische Brötchen holen ist eher schwierig. Uns hat es nicht gestört, da wir tolles Brot gekauft haben, das uns 2-3 Tage gereicht hat. Wandern kann man überall. Wir können das Haus nur weiter empfehlen. Allerdings muss man gut zu Fuss sein, da das Haus nur zu Fuss erreichbar ist. Danke an Barabara und Jose die immer für unsere Fragen da waren.

A traditional house in a stunning setting

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Sunset Retreat. The house had everything we needed for our 13 night stay. It was just as described on the website. The house was clean and well looked after. A minor problem encountered on arrival was quickly resolved by Barbara. The sunsets from the deck were amazing. Taguluche is a pretty, quite remote palm filled village and the views on the drive to reach it are wonderful. There are walks within the valley and plenty more on all parts of the island. La Gomera is a gem, whether relaxing is your aim or whether more physical pursuits are your thing.

Wundervoll ruhig, einmalig!

Wir haben sehr schöne 17 Tage in dieser Oase der Ruhe verbracht. Es fehlte an nichts. Die Aussicht von der Terasse ist grandios. Die Schlüsselübergabe mit Barbara war unkompliziert und der Kontakt ausgesprochen nett. Vielen Dank an Barbara und José. Václav und Inken

100% Adventure, Silence, Sun and a beautyfull house

No need to take books with you: You will NOT have time to read them, because you will have to look out in the ocean that changes color every minute, watch the clouds forming funny shapes and listening to the absence of noise. The house itself has everything you will probably need during your stay, althoug it is NOT so important, because you will spend 99% of your time on the very spacious veranda, either under the bright sun or under the shade. We spent our evenings always outside until late in the night, and this in almost NOVEMBER !!! Thanks Barbara and José for this impressing holiday

Erholsamer Urlaub an einem der ruhigsten Orte der Insel

Das urige Häuschen bietet alles was man braucht und ist sehr ruhig gelegen. Außer Vögeln, Brandung und Wind gibt es wirklich keine Geräusche! Ideal ist die Terrasse um den Sonnenuntergang über dem Meer zu genießen. Von Taguluche aus kann man auch direkt schöne Wanderungen unternehmen. Zum Einkaufen und zu den touristischen Zielen der Insel muss man dagegen recht weit auf gut ausgebauten aber sehr kurvigen Straßen fahren - das ist der einzige Nachteil der Abgeschiedenheit, aber wem das nichts ausmacht, der findet hier das perfekte Ferienhäuschen!

Thank you. We are happy to hear you enjoyed your stay. The local shop only has basic food, and fresh bread. It's best to do a food shop on the way, in Los Cristianos, or San Sebastián.

Lovely, remote, quiet

The place is the most quiet place we have ever visitet. The view over the sea in the sunset is fantastic. If you are looking for a place with no other sounds than natures, where the nights are dark and the stars bright, this is the right choice. The house is small, but with everything you need.

I am from England, and came to teach English in Tenerife about 20 years ago. The first time I visited Taguluche, I fell in love with the house and the village.
