Affordable Ground Floor Unit In The Heart Of HMB Downtown: Former Mayor's House

Please read the whole ad. Stay in the ground floor of a fun house with lots of History built by a former Mayor in Half Moon Bay as his personal residence in the 70s Lots of good stories. Adjacent to Main Street at the end of a low impact street, this unit is steps to coffee shops, great restaurants, and more. Seriously, steps not blocks... This ground floor unit has a living room, two sleeping rooms, a great room, a kitchenette, and 1.5 baths.

This unit is affordable, comfortable. It has been well lived in and is no frills, we cannot stress that enough. We have been in the vacation rental business since 2002 and have found we make more people happy by offering the lowest prices and providing very basic lodging. The local Ritz has terrible reviews and is usually more than $900/night.

The ground floor is all yours. You share nothing with the upstairs. As of this writing the upstairs is vacant and will be until at least October. The ground floor has a dining room, a great room with sofa and games, a galley kitchen, one and one half bathroom, and two sleeping rooms. You have off street parking for two cars.


We frequently offer discounts and specials. The default price is $100 per night Sun-Thurs and $200/night Fri and Sat with two nights minimum required for a Friday or Sat booking unless we have orphan ones (Thurs and Sat are booked but Fri is not). We are trying to figure out how to charge by the bed instead of the person. Each bed is good for two people at the price. We intend for each bed to be $50 and utilities at $5/person/night.

The kitchen is stocked with basic things. It has a small apartment stove and countertop oven with coffee makers



A standard booking is for two people and the California King will have linens.
Cleaning is $50. You must be tidy and do your dishes and leave them to dry if you do not want to be charged extra.

Please note, I specialize in No Frills affordable units. You have not found is a luxury home filled with Pottery Barn and Z Gallery. I can get you and your family into good accommodations usually much lower than any other unit including some room rentals.

What you have found is a place that is really downtown Half Moon Bay, can sleep a few people, and is as cheap as I can provide it. When I say really downtown- I MEAN IT. This is located at the end of a street that runs parallel to Main Street. You are across the street from the parking lot to the back size of a cute little retail center which has a restaurant, a gelato place, and some stores. You are maybe a one minute walk to a wine bar, a high end Italian Restaurant and so much more. You dont need to walk blocks to get to any of the action like you do at some places that advertise as "near" the tourist amenities. You wont need to take a taxi or ride share back if you get drunk or eat to much or anything like that. This unit is a comfortable no frills offering in a very seasoned building. You are going to see signs of age and us. I am posting pictures as I furnish it. Check my reviews. I do pretty well at these type of offerings. You know you. If you are a perpetual complainer or are instantly looking for discounts and refunds for every little thing then please book someplace where someone is offering you the world and a price that is commensurate with those expectations. If you are trying to visit Half Moon Bay on a budget then I think we have you covered.

This is a very basic rental at an attractive price. The location is EXCELLENT, one block from Main St., Half Moon Bay, so you can walk for coffee, donuts, meals, shopping for both food and gifts, everything is there.

This was a wonderful place to stay. I will definitely be going back with more of my family. It was in a great location near downtown Half Moon Bay you could walk maybe less than 100 feet and be on Main Street. The host was great and was very quick to respond. I enjoyed staying at this place extremely! will definitely be going back soon

The host communicated well for any questions. Location is absolutely as described. It is close to the beach and downtown shops and restaurants. The living quarters were clean but things like windows could use improvement. All windows didn’t have screens and the back porch door could not be opened for use. The host was absolutely honest in his description about the conditions and “no frills.” Beds are comfortable….but the couches are low to the ground so older or disabled people may have trouble getting in and out. Overall, we were satisfied with our stay and would book again.

Seemed like a good deal in a quiet location near downtown but the owner booked others to stay in the other “vacant unit” without informing me. So what was advertised was not what was delivered.The other renters were noisy so I attempted to contact the owner to bring it to his attention. When we finally spoke by phone, he was hostile, brittle and somewhat threatening. His attitude was basically too bad. It became apparent pretty quickly that he doesn’t have the temperament to run this type of business.I recommend paying a little extra and staying at one of the local bed-and-breakfast who can effectively handle issues professionally when they arise. Buyer be worn if you’re renting from this place, it may may have other parties staying at the same time.

Catherine, you told me like three different contradictory stories when you called and asked if I would let you cancel and refund you for the second day and I just wasn’t interested in hearing more. First you told me you were there to get a break from your sick dog then you needed to back to it. I think the truth is you planned a getaway with someone and for reasons I think I understand that person chose not to join you. When you threatened me that you would leave a bad review I agreed they was your right and I ended the call before you could come up with another personal sob story. I am sorry that you stayed here instead of some sort of facility that could have given you the emotional support and therapy you so badly needed. But just because you didn’t go there does not mean I owe you a free stay at my property. I hope everything worked out for you.

The host was very rude, hostile and resisted communicating. The message center was nit working. It took 4 hours of being in the phone with Expedia & VRBO, to get a phone number. Discription said I would have the whole house, 2 Queen beds, 1 King bed. Host said i only had a King bed & became belligerent when I asked how much it would be to have all tge beds, in case family or friends joined me during the Thanksgiving week.

The listing accurately describes the property as “no frills,” so our expectations were fairly basic. The location was great, the apartment had electricity and two electric fireplaces that kept it warm, there was plenty of hot water, the beds were comfortable, and three clean bath towels were provided.Unfortunately, the cleanliness upon arrival was disappointing. The toilet seat had fresh urine on it, the inside of the toilet was very dirty, there were opened bars of soap on both the bathroom sink and in the shower, and a used bath towel had been left on the sink. It gave the impression that the bathroom had not been cleaned between guests.The kitchen was also very minimally stocked. There were a few basic kitchen items, but no dish soap, hand soap, dish towels, or napkins. There are two smart TV’s but there was also no Wi-Fi, so future guests should be aware of that if internet access is important.Overall, the property matched the “no frills” description in terms of amenities, and the location is unbeatable (for downtown HMB) but the cleanliness issues would make it difficult for us to stay here again without improvement.
