Galleon's Lap: Design Featured Cabin on Waterfront
Summary:
Galleon’s Lap is a charming 3 bed, 1 bath cottage just an hour from Acadia National Park and 4.5 hours from Boston. Centrally located in a beautiful area rich with scenic coastal towns, cultural stops, and outdoor adventures, the cottage boasts direct waterfront access via the Bagaduce River, which flows into Penobscot Bay.
Nearby towns: Penobscot (5mins), Blue Hill (10mins), Brooksville (15mins), Deer Isle (20mins) Ellsworth (30 mins) Acadia National Park 1 hr).
The Space:
Nestled on a quiet hillside and enveloped by towering trees, Galleon’s Lap is a peaceful haven with artful touches and vintage inspired pieces. With its sleek dark wood exterior and expansive picture windows, the cabin feels effortlessly connected to its natural surroundings.
The living room presents a woodstove, a striped sofa and sheepskin-draped lounge chairs that invite you to curl up with a book and offers direct access to the deck. This inviting room flows into the kitchen and dining nook where warm wood tones and large windows create a light-filled backdrop for shared meals.
On the other side of the cabin are three cozy bedrooms and a full bathroom with a tub/shower combo. The master and first guest room each feature a queen bed, while the third bedroom offers a bunk bed. An intimate office nook, complete with a rustic wood desk and leather chair, provides a quiet spot for writing, reading, or catching up on work when needed.
On the deck, complete with outdoor seating, is the perfect spot for morning coffee, al fresco dining, or evenings spent listening to the sounds of the woods.
Adding to its charm, Galleon’s Lap offers waterfront access via the Bagaduce River, which flows into Penobscot Bay. The cabin is set on 100 meandering acres, with endless walking paths to enjoy.
Slow down, immerse yourself in nature, or gather with loved ones in a beautiful and peaceful setting. Galleon’s Lap offers a unique escape that feels worlds away from everyday life and offers the rustic charm of a true forest hideaway.
The Neighborhood:
Galleon’s Lap offers easy access to some of the Blue Hill Peninsula’s most treasured year-round experiences. Just minutes from the house, you’ll find forested trails and quiet coves at Holbrook Island Sanctuary, great for hiking, snowshoeing, and birdwatching.
Explore the charming village of Castine, where the Wilson Museum, Dyce Head Lighthouse, and historic harbor streets paint a picture of Maine’s coastal past. Don’t miss Blue Hill Books in Castine, a literary oasis for finding a great read for those lazy summer days.
For a true local favorite, head to Bagaduce Lunch—a James Beard Award–winning seafood shack serving up classic fried clams and lobster rolls with a riverfront view.
In nearby Blue Hill, browse artisan shops, visit seasonal farmers’ markets, or summit Blue Hill Mountain for panoramic bay views. For dining, Arborvine offers refined, locally inspired cuisine in a historic farmhouse setting, while Deep Water Brewing, tucked just behind Arborvine, is a relaxed spot for house-brewed beers and casual pub fare.
The winding roads and waterways and unique hamlets of the area offer endless opportunities for exploration. Take advantage of the slow pace of waterfront life here with a leisurely day of shopping, dining, and nature, before returning to the peaceful respite of Galleon's Lap.
