Smugglers Notch is rated as the #1 overall resort by Ski magazine. This is one of the reasons why we chose to build our vacation home right next to the mountain. In fact, our house is actually on the trail map and you can walk to everything at Smuggs. Ours is, quite possibly, the closest private home rental by Smugglers Notch resort.
Not only is our location ideal, our house is only a few years old! Sorry, no pets are allowed.

The house has an open floor plan with granite counter-tops in the kitchen with birch cabinetry. The family room has a gas fireplace, a 65 inch TV, and leather sofa, love seat, and single chair (they are so cozy that it is hard not to fall asleep after a great day on the mountain).
Added in October 2019 is a theater/game room in the basement. It has a 75 inch TV, leather couches, high top bar tables, air hockey, foos ball, and a dart board. Please bring your own darts if you would like to play. The sound bar on the TV is also Bluetooth ready so it’s easy to set up your phone to listen to your favorite music while play games and relaxing with some cocktails.
The total square footage is about 2,500. The first floor bedroom has a queen bed. The upstairs master also has a queen bed. The upstairs bunk room has 3 bunk beds, and the other room has a bunk bed with a futon on the bottom. This will provide comfortable sleeping for up to 10 people.

At the end of your day you can enjoy watching the ski trails on Madonna Mountain from the front porch.
And FIREWORKS! The resort puts on an amazing fireworks show every Thursday. You will have a spectacular view right from the front porch. The kids will love it!

Summer is great too! You can take advantage of the swimming, fun zone, zip lining and other activities at a fraction of the cost of staying at the resort and you can still walk to just about everything.
Other activities off the mountain include horseback riding, kayaking, biking, hiking, & fishing. There are some great wine and spirits tasting real close by too.

Security: For the safety of our guests and our property, external security cameras are located at each corner of the house. Additionally, there is a Smart doorbell on the exterior of the front door. That doorbell can be used to contact the owners at anytime. We respect the privacy of our guests and do NOT have any cameras inside the dwelling.

Jim’s place was everything we could have asked for. It’s well appointed, comfortable, and walkable to the Smuggler’s Notch resort area. Basement game room was a big plus!

Jim’s house was perfect for our group of friends who were in town for a wedding. The kitchen was well stocked with spices, oils and all the pots/pans we could need to make a big breakfast. Even though it was really hot, the window air conditioners worked great to keep us comfortable. The basement game/movie space was perfect for those who wanted to stay up later while the door at the top of the stairs kept all the noise away from the bedrooms. I would definitely book again!

Wonderful Smuggs stay!

We had the best time at the red house! It was very comfortable. Plenty of room for everyone!! The bunk room was very cool and all the kids really enjoyed staying together. We loved how close it was to the mountain just a very short drive and parking was really easy during the week.fireworks on Thursday night was a highlight as well as movie night in the basement! All in all very cool trip

Clean & Close to Smuggs

Red Smuggs House gets all Gold Stars!

The Red Smuggs House is a great property to vacation at… the unit, location, and property are are better than advertised. The unit is incredibly spacious. And the communication and care offered so willingly by the property owner and property management team is wonderful! This is a must stay property.

The property was excellent for our family of 10 Christmas ski trip. The house is nice and clean with an abundance of beds and endless entertainment for the kids/teens. Jim was very accommodating and attentive and provided an abundance of information. Vacation success!!

Beautiful Home

Our family enjoyed the weekend stay. The home was beautiful. Very clean, and so many home accessories available. Making our stay that much easier. Easy access as well for entrance when we arrived. The owner was very kind and very helpful. Providing area things to do as well as checking in on us. Would highly recommend this place.

Great house, great location!

We loved our stay at this house! There was enough space for our group of 10. The owner was quick to respond to any questions we had. The location was perfect, so close to Smugglers Notch. Most of us walked to the mountain (we used one car to drive our skis over). Overall a really great stay!

Yearly family ski trip

The house is beautiful tucked away across the street from the entrance to Smugglers Notch. Spacious and cozy with an awesome game room in the nicely finished basement. We had a great week together! Lots of skiing and just hanging out at night relaxing.

Clear Communication and Great Location

This is a perfect spot for a group to stay right across the street from Smugs. It's an easy drive to restaurants in the area and a well kept up house. Communication was easy throughout the process.

It’s beautiful in the summer, too!

Our group had two families: 4 adults, 4 girls, and a baby. The space accommodated us wonderfully with room to spare. We had a lovely stay. The house was exactly what we expected, and the location was central to all the activities we wanted to do with our families: hiking, mini golf, and breweries. It also didn’t take too long to get to Burlington for a day trip.

Great house in great location

We stayed to visit my daughter at UVM and ski Smugglers Notch. The house was perfect. My daughter brought over some of her college friends to enjoy a home cooked meal and a night away from the dorms. The bunk room was perfect for them. The lower level had football, air hockey and a giant tv to keep them busy. The kitchen was stocked with everything I needed to make multiple meals for a crowd. The house stayed warm even though we were there during record low temperatures we stayed cozy inside. It’s literally across the street from Smugglers so arriving for first chair was easy with no parking issues. Owner was great, very easy to work with and everything was clearly outlined. Highly recommend!

Exceeded expectations!!

I would highly recommend this property to anyone looking to stay in the northern Vermont area. The house was fully equipped with everything you could possibly need plus more. The beds were very comfortable and the bedrooms were perfectly sized. The communication with Jim was just the right amount to make sure that everything was good from booking to the stay without being overbearing. Everything was perfect and I have absolutely no complaints at all. Thank you again!!

Great house!

This house was great! Lots of room. Loved the gameroom in the basement. Great distance from Smugglers Notch. Crossing the highway to get to SN with the children was doable, but caution was certainly needed.

Having family close to Smugglers Notch Resort introduced us to this great family vacation spot. We have been vacationing there for well over twenty years. We often thought how wonderful it would be to have our own vacation home in this beautiful area.

For years we searched for just the right spot as close to the mountain as possible. We finally found an older house in severe disrepair and we jumped on it. It was in such disrepair that we needed to start from scratch. We decided to donate our house to the Cambridge fire department. They used it for training exercises and then burned it to the ground on a cold snowy day in March 2013. It was a magnificent experience that we will never forget. We will always be grateful to the fire squad and we think they appreciated the opportunity as well.

We started building immediately and tried to consider everything that a large group or multiple families would appreciate. We hope that you enjoyed our story and take the opportunity to visit our custom home and take advantage of the many wonderful things that Smugglers Notch and Vermont have to offer.

We have family across the country and frequently look for vacations rentals that accommodate two families. We built our home with that in mind and hopefully you will appreciate our approach too.
We love Smuggs and everything the area has to offer. Great skiing, hiking, fishing, swimming, biking, kayaking or simply relaxing are just some of the great things you can do right out the front door.
