Historic Harpers Ferry Home. Prime location
Step into history without giving up modern comfort in this lovingly restored 1820s armorer’s house—one of the oldest privately owned homes in Harpers Ferry. With its front porch swing, Civil War–era memorabilia, and leafy setting just a short walk from downtown, this is a guest favorite for families, hikers, cyclists, and history buffs alike.
About this space:
🛏 3 bedrooms • 2 baths
🚶♀️ 8–10 minute walk down the hill to historic downtown, river, trails, shops & restaurants
🚲 Ideal for C&O / GAP cyclists & AT hikers (bike-friendly, near ATC HQ & footbridge)
🚗 2 dedicated parking spaces right by the door
🌳 Across from the town park & bandstand (seasonal events)
🐈 Frequent visits from Tony, the famous neighborhood cat!
Built in the 1820s by the U.S. government to house armory workers, the home is full of character and stories. Inside you’ll find:
- Original details, beautiful wood floors, and historic photos, books, and artifacts
- A cozy living room perfect for game nights or curling up after a day on the trail
- A large wooden dining table where everyone can gather comfortably
- Guests consistently comment on how clean, welcoming, and “like home” the house feels.
Upstairs you’ll find three bedrooms:
- Bedroom 1: Queen bed with Sleep Number mattress (adjustable firmness with remote)
- Bedroom 2: Queen bed
- Bedroom 3: Daybed with trundle (two separate twin beds)
There are 2 bathrooms:
- Upstairs: Toilet, sink & antique clawfoot tub (no shower)
- Downstairs: Toilet, sink & walk-in shower
The fully renovated kitchen is modern, bright, and very well equipped, with:
- Full-size appliances
- Cookware, dishes, and basics for simple meals
- Coffee maker with K-cups provided
The front porch is a highlight for many guests:
- Porch swing and seating for morning coffee or evening wine
- Views of Washington Street and the city park & bandstand across the way
- You’ll likely meet Tony, the famous Harpers Ferry cat (featured inThe Washington Post), who loves lounging on the porch when he's not greeting visitor walking by (he stays outside).
Perfectly situated to enjoy everything Harpers Ferry has to offer:
🚶♀️ 8–10 minute walk downhill to Lower Town’s historic sites, shops, restaurants & river
🚶♂️ Very short walk to the Appalachian Trail Conservancy HQ and AT access
🚲 About half-mile from the C&O Canal Towpath, ideal for overnight cyclist stops
🚆 Walkable from the Amtrak station (Capitol Limited from DC)
🥐 Close to local bakeries, coffee shops, and restaurants in Harpers Ferry and Bolivar
If you’re looking for a place that’s steeped in history, genuinely walkable to town and trails, and cozy to come home to after a day outside, this house is exactly that. Guests return again and again for the charm, the comfort, the porch evenings—and of course, a visit from Tony the cat.
