The Neighborhood:

We are in the heart of Mission Beach with everything it has to offer - great food, amusement parks, and great beaches. Mission Beach is San Diego’s lively take on the classic boardwalk beach town with nearly two miles of oceanfront boardwalk, numerous rental shops, and Belmont Park, a historic amusement park, featuring the Giant Dipper Roller Coaster, originally built in 1925, the Beach House Grill, miniature golf, bumper cars, rock climbing, and an arcade.

A popular beach with the 20-something crowd, there are plenty of bars in Mission Beach and adjacent Pacific Beach, and a hot nightlife scene for young adults and the young at heart. The Ocean Front Walk pathway runs north and south from here for bikers, skaters, runners, and walkers. Biking north leads to Pacific Beach and biking south leads to the end of the Mission Beach Peninsula at South Mission Beach, a popular spot for beach volleyball. The area is bubbling with various fun activities on a daily basis and wide sandy beaches aren’t the only draw. There are also a host of activities for the whole family to enjoy including boogie boarding, surfing, whale watching, sport fishing, and scuba diving.

A short walk across Mission Beach’s main thoroughfare leads you to the calm waters of Mission Bay, home to SeaWorld San Diego and Mission Bay Park, surrounded by grassy parks, playgrounds, picnic tables and miles of paved sidewalks. This is the largest aquatic park of its kind in the world. It includes 27 miles of bayfront. It was developed in the 1950s as a 5,000-acre aquatic park. The park is used for a variety of recreational activities such as picnics, fishing, swimming, sailing, water skiing, as well as softball and volleyball games and other sports, perfect for those looking for active Mission Beach attractions to enjoy. Rent a sailboat, take a leisurely bayside bike ride, or watch the kids play in this one-of-a-kind oasis.

Most of the action in Mission Beach centers around Belmont Park at the intersection of Mission Boulevard and West Mission Bay Drive.

South Mission Beach offers a slower pace from the bustling activity in the Belmont Park area. The beach gets even wider as you go south, with lots of room to relax on the white sand. There are great spots for fishing at the end of the road at South Mission Beach Park, where you can cast off the jetty and watch the boats pass in and out through the Harbor Channel. You'd never know it to look, but a half-mile off the coast are a series of shipwrecks, placed here to create an artificial reef and a diver's haven for underwater exploration.

Don't count on finding parking on any of Mission Beach's narrow and densely inhabited residential streets and, if you do, check the signs before you count yourself lucky. Slightly better odds can be had at the public lots around Belmont Park, Santa Clara Point, and South Mission Beach Park. Otherwise, this is a good place to visit by bus or bike.

The heartbeat of every city lives in its downtown, and San Diego is no exception. Located only minutes from the airport, San Diego's thriving urban center offers an abundance of options for fun activities, dining and cultural attractions, all easily accessible by foot, bike, car or public transportation. In the historic Gaslamp Quarter, where modern architecture and Victorian-age buildings stand side-by-side, you'll discover eclectic galleries, chic boutiques, trendy nightclubs, rooftop bars, gastropubs, craft beer haunts and fine dining restaurants lining the streets.

During the day, families can enjoy compelling cultural attractions in San Diego's downtown, like The New Children's Museum, take in a baseball game at Petco Park, home of the San Diego Padres, or catch the trolley to Balboa Park and the San Diego Zoo. With plenty of places to eat, shop and explore, families can enjoy a true California urban safari.

If you're looking for some authentic local flavor, immerse yourself in San Diego's Little Italy district, just north of downtown, where you can grab a slice of pizza or an espresso and biscotti from a local café, or dine at one of the celebrity chef restaurants located on bustling Kettner Boulevard known as "Top Chef Alley." Just south of downtown sits the vibrant East Village, a revitalized warehouse district with a hip social scene, trendy cafes, craft beer bars, and high energy vibe. East of downtown you'll find Barrio Logan, the epicenter of San Diego's Hispanic community, where art and food converge in a symphony of sights, sounds and tastes. From the I-5 freeway take Garnet Avenue west to Mission Blvd. south. Alternatively, take Sea World Drive to West Mission Bay Drive to the roller coaster. The closest airport is San Diego International Airport at 5 miles by car.
