Experience Waterfront Luxury on the Burton Peninsula, Vashon Island

My name is George Spano, and I'm a lifelong Vashon Island native with a deep connection to this special island. I grew up in this house during the 1960s and 1970s. My father built it in 1960 after purchasing the waterfront property on the advice of my older brother's doctor, who believed that living near the saltwater might help relieve his hay fever. That's how our family's island story began!

My wife and I were married in 1983, and we've been coming here ever since, first to visit my parents and enjoy island life with our children, and now to share those same experiences with our grandchildren.

Over the years, this home has become a gathering place for four generations of our family. We've kept it because, quite simply, it's a grandkid magnet and a wonderful place to relax, reconnect, and enjoy the beauty and slower pace of island life.

I've always loved being on the water and spend much of my free time boating around Vashon Island and exploring the beautiful waters of Puget Sound. I'm also an active member of the Vashon Island Rotary Club, where I enjoy participating in community projects and giving back to an island and community that have given me so much over the years.

We love sharing this special home with guests and hope that you and your family will make some wonderful memories here, just as we have for more than 65 years.

We don't get to choose our parents or where we grow up, but I will always be grateful for my good fortune to have been born and raised on Vashon Island.

I've always loved our location on Quartermaster Harbor, with our private dock (shared with our neighbor) and the park right next door. It's a wonderful playground for children and an ideal place to simply sit back, relax, and watch the world go by.

With Mother Nature's ever-changing tides and the steady parade of boats coming and going from Quartermaster Harbor, there's always something interesting to see. From boaters launching their vessels to kayakers and paddleboarders exploring the harbor, summer swimmers enjoying the water, and families gathering at the neighboring park, there's a constant but peaceful rhythm of activity.

What I love most is that you can enjoy all of this without ever leaving the property. Whether you're watching the tides change, enjoying the activity on the water, or simply taking in the natural beauty, it's a wonderful place to slow down and appreciate this little slice of heaven.

You've probably heard that expression before, and in our case, it couldn't be more true!

Our waterfront location on Quartermaster Harbor, with a private dock (shared with our neighbor), a mooring buoy, and a public park and boat launch right next door, is truly something special. Add the nearby Burton Acres trails for a peaceful walk through the woods, and you have an ideal setting for enjoying the very best of island life.

I grew up here long before computers, smartphones, and video games, when Mom would simply say, "Go outside and play!" And play we did! We'd explore the woods, hike the trails, build forts, and spend countless hours enjoying the outdoors. The only rule was to be home when Mom honked the car horn three times. That was our signal that dinner was ready!

What makes this property so special to me is that much of that same experience is still here today. Children can explore, families can spend time together, and everyone can enjoy the simple pleasures of being outdoors, surrounded by water, woods, and the natural beauty of Vashon Island.

It's a place to put down the electronics, slow down, and make the kind of memories that last a lifetime.
