By Far Cottage is a luxury five-bed, seven-bath home located adjacent to Farmington Country Club, less than five minutes’ drive from the University of Virginia and within easy reach of all Charlottesville’s amenities. This gracious living space features premium furnishings and bedding, ensuite bathrooms in every bedroom (primary bedroom on main floor), multiple entertaining areas with two gas fireplaces, an eat-in kitchen seating 12 guests, screened porch with dining table and chairs for 8, card room with exterior deck, pool table and wood-burning fire pit set in three leafy acres.

Up to five couples can be comfortably accommodated. Please note that no parties or gatherings of any kind may be hosted at our home, out of courtesy to our neighbors.

Our preference is that all guests be aged 13 and above.

My family had the privilege of staying at By Far Cottage for my youngest son's wedding weekend. It was the perfect place for my elderly parents, brother, nephew and niece and oldest son and his fiance. Nicely appointed kitchen, great spaces indoors and out! The owners and property manager were wonderful to work with from booking through departure. Many thanks for helping make our weekend a success!

Perfect Graduation Weekend

This was the perfect house for a large family gathering to celebrate our son's UVA graduation. It comfortably fit four families, 13 people total. The main level has a ton of seating to hang out, as does the kitchen. It is right at the back gate of Farmington and only 10 minutes from campus. Katie was very helpful at check in and answering questions during our stay. We highly recommend this house.

Family Thanksgiving

Fantastic house and location with plenty of room and space for our group to spread out and all the details taken care of including plenty of sheets, towels, strong wifi, and activities - fire pit, game room, pool table, etc…Property manager was personal and attentive to all of our questions and needs. Highly recommend staying here and will certainly try to reserve again when we return in future.

Amazing Property

We could not have been happier with our stay here! Plenty of room to spread out, and cozy spaces to come together for meals, chatting and celebrations. Located to conveniently to all major attractions in the area. Comfortable beds, luxurious bathrooms and everything you could want or need to ge comfortable!! We would gladly give 10 stars!! Owners and property managers were all so friendly and accessible!! Loved every moment!!

Wedding Stay

Beyond our expectations. Always see pictures online and when you get to the property it sometimes is not exactly as pictured. This was exactly what we expected and more. Would not hesitate to recommend this property to anyone.

Perfect stay for our son’s wedding weekend!

We had a wonderful stay in this lovely home near Farmington Country Club for our son’s wedding weekend. The home was clean, spacious and comfortable for our family to stay with plenty of public spaces to gather together, but also provided enough privacy. All five bedrooms have en-suite bathrooms. The property manager was helpful and responsive, providing us flexibility that we needed for the weekend. I highly recommend staying here and hope that we will return one day soon! Thank you!

Weekend with Friends

The house is large, beautiful, and well maintained. It is located in a lovely neighborhood adjacent to a golf club. The concierge was friendly and very helpful. We used UberXL and had no problem with transportation at night. We sat in front of the fire one evening to talk and catch up and played cards another day in the game room. We had brunch at a great place downtown, dinner at a fun Italian restaurant and toured Monticello. All in all, it was a wonderful place for a getaway.

Wonderful Stay Over UVA Graduation Weekend

My husband and I, and our entire extended family, thoroughly enjoyed our stay at By Far Cottage. From the excellent communication with the owners and property manager, to the extra details like the UVA flag and fragrant lily bouquets throughout the house, we couldn't have asked for more. The adult "kids" loved the outdoor firepit, and the gas grill and screened-in porch were ideal for a family graduation cookout. Thank you for sharing your beautiful home with us.

Fantastic house for any UVA events-Superior location and layout

Our family shared this wonderful house with friends for a long weekend around a UVA sporting event, and I can honestly say that there is no better place to stay in Charlottesville. We were two couples and four teenagers, and there was ample room for everyone to sleep comfortably on plush mattresses and linens, have privacy and his/her own bathroom (very important). The house also has a number of nicely-furninshed areas to enjoy together. We could all easily relax by the cozy fireplace in the living room while the kids watched movies in the downstairs den. We made breakfast and meals in the spacious, fully equipped kitchen. The location is tucked away on a leafy road near Farmington Country Club, but a quick and easy drive to the university grounds as well as Barracks Rd. shopping, groceries, restaurants, etc. The owners answered all of our questions in a timely way, and we would definitely stay here for future games.

Comfortable, Convenient and Nice Amenities

This property was the perfect accommodation for our family gathering for a week ending with a wedding. The house is incredibly spacious with lots of amenities. For large families it has plenty of gathering places AND rooms to take refuge for some quiet time. Several family members had to work remote for part of the week and this property had plenty of rooms to make that work. The kitchen is a huge benefit for groups who like to cook. There is extra refrigerator capacity and a large dining area. Modern cooking accessories and plenty of counter/cooking prep areas. Outside porches, decks and fire pit were a hit as well. The billiards parlor was a nice distraction for the groom before the wedding. For people who like board games and cards, the "game room" was always busy. The primary advantage of this property is the location. It is central to almost everything in Charlottesville which makes access to UVA, historical downtown, shopping, restaurants and vineyards easy. The property manager was incredibly helpful and provided local intel to help us get whatever we needed.

Perfect weekend I'm CV

This house is really amazing and more than met our needs for a long-weekend anniversary celebration with friends. I only wish we could have stayed longer in order to enjoy the house more. We looked at a couple of rental properties on downtown Charlottesville but the location of this place really worked for us since it's a quick 10-minute drive to downtown for restaurants and only 15-30 minutes from the area's best wineries. Also right across the road from the Boar's Head Inn where we enjoyed dinner on Sunday evening at the Mill Room. Don't be afraid to try it if you have been disappointed in recent years with BH; restaurant and bar are refurbished. Everything we ordered and the service were excellent. Back to the house .... exceptionally clean, very well stocked kitchen with everything you need to cook in (we did one evening), lots of spacious lounging areas plus cool wine/bourbon room in the basement. Everyone in our group raved about the beds and linens. Comminication with the propert owner and manager was very good. We met with Katie, the house manager, upon arrival and she gave us a thorough tour and was very respectful and accommodating to our group. I was more than happy with this rental and would highly recommend it to any group of grownups wanting a quality stay in the Charlottesville area.

Fantastic home for a large group!

We are a group of ten women who stayed in the home to celebrate my 50th birthday. I was looking for a space that would have plenty of beds and bathrooms to help everyone feel comfortable (especially because some of them were meeting for the first time), and the house did not disappoint! All of us commented about how comfortable the beds were and we took notes (and pictures) so we could have the same cozy experience at home. We had several spaces where we could all sit together and the kitchen had everything we needed (and more). We took full advantage of all of it! We were close to downtown, where we spent an afternoon wandering the shops, and to the wineries, which we toured on another day. Katie showed us around the house when we arrived and helped make sure we had everything we needed. The ladies have decided we need to return for my 60th, though we’d all like to come back sooner. Highly recommend! Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful home with us. We had the best time!

Fabulous house for UVA graduation

We had a fabulous time staying at Mike’s beautiful home in Charlottesville over UVA’s graduation weekend. We enjoyed having meals with our family and friends in the big kitchen and hanging out in the many relaxing areas to just catch up and spend time together. The house was even better than the pictures- woukd highly recommend staying here!

Beautiful home, will visit again!

I may have read this in the comments before arriving, but the photos do not do the home justice - it is larger, more spacious, and more well appointed than it appears in the photos. The main floor living area was perfect for gathering all ten of our family. We were in town for our daughter's wedding, so we had the bridesmaids come over for hair and makeup, and my sons and I were perfectly happy in the very roomy downstairs. The well landscaped back yard was perfect for some pre-wedding photos. The five bedrooms are all very private with their own bathrooms and plenty of space, and the entire home was spotless when we arrived. Katie, the house manager, was warm and eager to make our visit comfortable - she added to the outstanding experience. We'd love to go back!
