Anyone who steps inside the newly restored former parsonage in Mödlich feels it immediately: it is a house where the past comes to life—and at the same time, it is a place to enjoy life and find oneself in the here and now, no matter the season. This historic building was lovingly restored with meticulous attention to detail and as faithfully as possible to its original form—and great care was taken to create a high-quality, uniquely harmonious interior that embodies the luxury of simplicity.
Unwind, enjoy the unique natural beauty of the Elbe River floodplain, go for a bike ride, read a good book, let your thoughts wander, watch the birds, enjoy time together, or perhaps even get married—for all of this, your hosts Frîa Hagen and Volker Warning have created a place where they warmly welcome you.
The three apartments, which vary in size and offer a total of 13 beds (plus extra beds), can be booked individually or together—making them perfect for family gatherings, vacations with friends, training sessions, and seminars.
As part of the restoration work, all historical features—such as doors and locks, windows and hardware, plank floors, stairs, and shutters—were refurbished and, where necessary, supplemented in a historically appropriate manner.
Wherever possible, traditional craftsmanship techniques were employed, along with building materials appropriate to the structure, such as clay and lime plaster, lime paint, and solid wood.
When re-roofing the building, historic plain-tail tiles matching the originals in color and size were used; the roof was insulated exclusively with pure wood and wood-fiber insulation materials.
The house is heated energy-efficiently via a heating system integrated into the baseboards; in addition, the historic tiled stoves were preserved or replaced in a historically appropriate style.
With respect for the aged patina and the aesthetics of natural materials, the interior consistently plays on the contrast between rustic simplicity and refined living.
In the house’s three vacation apartments, surface-mounted Bakelite switches, English bathtubs set on historic wide floorboards, high-quality English fixtures and plumbing, fully equipped solid-wood kitchens in a rustic style with countertops made from restored reclaimed wood, box-spring beds, and mostly historic—yet always tastefully combined—lamps and lighting fixtures, all provide modern comfort and clarity without ever disrupting the existing character of the property.
There is no room for kitsch here, and the minimalist color palette—featuring lime white, natural white, shades of gray, and weathered wood, iron, and brass—highlights the surface textures of the existing and newly incorporated materials.
The 14,000-square-meter former parsonage garden surrounding the house also contributes to the atmosphere. With its old willows, oaks, walnut trees, and fruit trees; a cottage garden with boxwood hedges; a pond; as well as a playground and a large open space—along with the large sun terraces belonging to each apartment—it offers the perfect setting for a wide variety of outdoor activities.
