Riverfront Safari Tent with Scenic Views and Deck in Blacksburg, Virginia
Wake up to the sound of the New River just steps from your door. At New River Junction — the New River Valley's favorite outdoor destination since 1982 — our safari tents offer the magic of sleeping in nature without any of the hassle. Real beds, fresh bedding and a private deck right on the riverfront. Arrive with nothing but your bag and find everything ready and waiting.
The New River is one of the oldest rivers in the world, and this stretch is something special. Calm, clear, and surrounded by the rolling hills of southwest Virginia, it draws tubers, anglers, and nature lovers from across the region every summer. Spend your days floating downstream on a tube, casting for smallmouth bass and muskie, or simply relaxing on your deck as hawks and herons fish the shallows beside you.
When the day is done, come back to your tent and find it exactly as comfortable as you left it. Canvas walls, real beds, and the sound of the river at night — the best white noise you'll ever sleep to. A clean, well-maintained bathhouse is shared among glamping guests on-site, and Blacksburg's restaurants and shops are just a short drive away if you need them.
Family-owned and operated since 1982, NRJ is more than a campground — it's a New River Valley tradition. Come be part of it
New River Junction has been a family-owned and operated riverside destination since 1982. For over four decades, two generations of the Mondy family have welcomed families, couples, college students, and outdoor lovers to our stretch of the New River in Blacksburg, Virginia — and we've built something we're genuinely proud of.
We started as a simple campground with a deep love for this river and this valley. Over the years we've grown into one of the New River Valley's most beloved outdoor destinations, adding tubing, fishing, cabins, event spaces, and now glamping — but the heart of what we do has never changed. We're here because we love the New River, and we want to share it with as many people as possible.
The New River isn't just our backyard — it's one of the oldest rivers in the world, nearly 300 feet wide at our stretch, warm and clear in the summer, and teeming with smallmouth bass, herons, hawks, and some of the most beautiful scenery in all of Virginia. We've spent over 40 years learning its rhythms, respecting its moods, and making sure every guest who comes through our gate leaves with a deeper appreciation for it.
When you stay with us, you're not just booking a tent. You're joining a community that has been gathering on this stretch of river for generations. Some of our guests have been coming back every summer for over 25 years. That means everything to us — and it's exactly the kind of experience we want to create for you.
We hope to see you on the river.
— The Mondy Family
