Our holiday cottage built in the 1970's awaits your arrival, altho nearly 50 years old, it is clean bright & comfortable inside and out, with 4 bedrooms, 5 beds, sleeping 7 people, Main bedroom with en-suite, double bedroom, twin bedroom and one single bedroom, all supplied with cool, crisp cotton bedding. Baby travel cot and high chair are also available and can be set up in the single bedroom. White cotton towels are available for your use indoor while colourful pool towels can be used to laze by the pool. The kitchen has all the usual mod cons. 5G WIFI with inverter is installed to ensure no loss of internet during loadshedding,. Cooking has been upgraded to gas again to ensure no disruption during loadshedding. Air conditioning is installed in the open plan sitting room/dining room and in the main bedroom. Electric fans are supplied in other two rooms. Double garage ensures secure parking for two cars with the electric gates for extra security. The house is alarmed. and protected by ADT. The pool and gardens are attended to weekly.


The house is available to you after 2pm on your arrival day but must be vacated by 11am on departure day unless prior agreement to extend these times. This allows our housekeeper to ensure the house is thoroughly cleaned prior to the arrival of next guests. Our house manager Joseph, will meet with you on arrival to show you around and to help you settle in. Joseph is only a phone call way should you encounter any problems, issues or concerns during your stay. The cottage is 5 mins drive away from Stellenbosch Town passing through the beautiful University Campus. Stellenbosch town has beautiful restaurants for lunch and evening dining and a host of individual shops for a browse. Further afield there are numerous wonderful wineries, a must to taste their wine and sample their fabulous food.

Excellent location and beautiful outside pool area

A fabulous 6 nights in Stellenbosch:Stunning views of the mountains. So peaceful and safe. Hilary and Mark were really helpful and great hosts, recommending lots of places to visit. Thank you for such a trouble free and enjoyable stay.

Beautiful house and garden with pool

We spend 5 nights in this wonderfull house. We loved the swimming pool and the view at the mountain. It's located in a quiet neighbourhood and street, not far from the center of Stellenbosch. The Spar supermarket is very close. We enjoyed our stay here!

Beautiful home, lovely location

We had a fantastic time here. Hillary and Mark were extremely helpful and provided us with great information about the local area. The house was beautiful, perfect for our group of 4 adults and 3 children. Handily located for.Stellenbosch and all the local wineries, would definitely stay again.

Faboulous house in a very safe area

We are a Danish family of 4 that had the privileged to stay a week in Hilary’s fantastic house in Stellenbosch. We planned our trip one year ahead and Hillary has be outstanding helping us getting the most out of our stay providing us great advice. The house is honestly amazing; very spacious and clean, great pool area with plenty of space to hang out, great outdoor space for dining including a nice grill, cozy living room and nice bedrooms and bathrooms. It is close to everything including great dining in a very safe area. All this is topped with the excellent service of Candice who is the local house manager who will help you with all you need with a smile. It was very difficult for us to leave and we will absolutely be back! Go there - you will not be disappointed!

Very spacious with lovely outside area and pool. Nice showers with plenty of hot water.

We had a very nice time in Stellenbosch. Did a guided wine tasting tour which included 3 different vineries. Went to a couple of good restaurants (need to pre book). A bit far to walk (35 min) so arranged taxi service. All done via tourist information. Very helpful.

Spacious house, gorgeous decor & facilities!

Amazing house in ideal location of Stellenbosch. Everything from decor, beautiful linen, spacious bedrooms & living areas, indoor & outdoor, makes this house a must if you’re visiting this area. Home from home. The accomodation made the holiday something special.

Really enjoyed our stay. Found the accommodation to be clean and inviting and catered for all our needs. Couldn't fault it. Staying in such a nice house really made our holiday. A dip in the pool was a great way to kick off the day and to finish off in the evening with a BBQ and healthy glass of wine or two on the patio was lovely! This was our first time in South Africa and we found this property to be ideally situated to tour the extended area and then return to accommodation that felt home from home. Booking was hassle free and Hilary was a delight to deal with.

Fantastic property in a brilliant location

I can't recommend this property enough we had a wonderful stay here, it really was our best holiday ever! The property is really spacious, very well maintained and is extremely well equipped with everything we needed for our stay. It was also spotlessly clean. The outside space is wonderful too with lots of room to relax and swim, and the covered dining area was also a great bonus in the warm weather. I also can’t praise the owner Hilary enough, she was a wonderful host prior to our arrival and her lunch and dinner recommendations for surrounding wine estates and restaurants were fantastic. The house is in an excellent location so we had the chance to explore Stellenbosch, Capetown and Franschhoek while we were there. I can’t wait to return to Hilary’s wonderful home!

Tired, and in need of some TLC!

Firstly the photographs of this property are not accurate. The house is in desperate need of a makeover. Both shower door runners in each of the bathrooms were broken and the sink in one was cracked. The kitchen oven was very dirty and the outside barbecue was a disgrace. It consisted of a few house bricks and a metal cooking rack which was so encrusted with burnt on fat that it was unusable! The owner should be aware of these negative points which should be addressed before the property is offered for rental. There is evidently a lack of supervision by the local agent in checking that the property is maintained to an acceptable standard. Only one of the bedrooms had aircon and the others without were so hot its was impossible to have a decent nights sleep. There was also an issue with the pool , where because of the water shortage it was 30cm below the level which enables the pool to be filtered and cleaned. This resulted in daily dirt and leaves being blown into the pool with no means of the automatic pool cleaner to work as this also requires the pool to be at the normal level.The pool was cleaned by an outside company the day after we arrived and after I had complained about its state and again the day before we vacated the house. We were not warned of this problem with the pool before we arrived at the property and although I have since returning home taken this matter up with the owners I have had no redress for being unable to use the pool because of it's state. Because of fairly steep steps up to the pool the house is not suitable for young children or anyone with mobility problems. The garden is not very well maintained but this maybe somewhat due to the drought. The house is a fair distance out of the centre of town approx one and a half miles so in the heat of a South African Summer it is not walkable unless you are young! On the positive side the kitchen was well equipped with plenty of Plates. Knives, Forks Etc, and there was a good supply of towels. In conclusion this property was a disappointment.

A perfect home away from home!!

We loved our stay in this very well equipped home. It is very private, safe and quiet and also well situated to go to Cape Town or visit all the wonderful wine farms and excellent restaurants. A perfect home away from home.

Fab,relaxing, homely a true comfortable home from home

We were thrilled when we arrived at Hilary's home who I must say was the most accommodating host prior to our arrival . So helpful giving us lots of info for all the surrounding areas. We loved our stay there . It was a great location and we made use of all the great facilities within the house . Stellenbosch was only a walk away and we were not disappointed with any of the restaurants we visited .The food was amazing . The surrounding areas were fabulous also . Franschook in particular was lovely with a great reataurant , vineyard 'Le Petit Ferme ' The five of us had a great holiday and we would thoroughly recommend a stay at Hilary's Home . You will not be disappointed .

Perfect vacation near Cape Town

The house is great for seven adults. It has everything so you don't need to pack much. It is conveniently located north of Cape Town. The airport is only 30min away. There is so much to see and do around the house! The Xmas market was walking distance!!! There is a small store for groceries. The owners will load the electricity and the pool is super nice and clean! You cannot go wrong with this rental! If only we had an extra week of vacation... book it now! It is fabulous!

Traumhaft

Sehr schönes, ruhig in einer Villengegend gelegenes Anwesen. Trotzdem nahe am Zentrum. Komplett ausgestattet mit sehr gutem Standard. Management vor Ort sehr bemüht bei allen Anfragen. Die Bilder sind authentisch und geben einen richtigen Eindruck wieder. Eigentümerin schnell und zuverlässig in der Korrespondenz. Werden es jederzeit wieder buchen. Äußerst empfehlenswert.

Can not fathom a better place to stay

Through my very first inquiry to the last day of my stay - I can not say enough good things about Hilary, the service and comfort she provided, and the house itself. I had never used HomeAway before and was a bit nervous, but she made herself available each step of the rental process. The house itself was immaculately clean, functioning and in one of the most beautiful areas of an already wonderful part of the country. The neighborhood is safe and rural, and very close to down town Stellie. There is not one complaint I have, even if I tried to be picky. My friends and I all left our stay already planning the next - including our next stay at Casa Hilary! Tom, United States

Sshh don't tell anyone about this MARVELOUS place

Have just come back from another blissful 2 weeks staying at this wonderful house. I cannot add anything to what I have said before about this home from home. The place is immaculate, the agent who takes care of the house is helpful and there for you at all times (as is the wonderful owner Hilary), nothing is too small they are great. Not that we had anything to complain about regarding the house, it was as always perfect, but don't tell anyone I had trouble squeezing in this time! The addition of the new widescreen TV made my husband extremely happy as he was able to watch the footie (which made him feel even more at home). You will find this place has everything you need and the comfort factor is always a bonus. After travelling around for nearly 3 weeks and living out of a case it was great to lounge around and enjoy the pool and comfortable beds along with all that Stellenbosch has to offer - loads and loads of wonderful wining and dining. I really should say please don't go there, but I can't do it I love this house and it is one of the best we have ever stayed in, it is our third time! Thank you Hilary for giving us your home again.

Tranquility revisited

I can only reiterate what I have previously said about this wonderful property - it is FABULOUS! We returned to Stellenbosch for a restful 2 weeks and felt immediately at home when we walked through the doors. The house is immaculate in every way and yet homely and comfortable. We enjoyed many leisurely afternoons by and in the pool sipping on a glass of Stellenbosch's finest grapes! The restaurants in the area are even better than we remembered and there were many new ones we tried which increased my waistline considerably! Thank you Hilary and Mark for everything and also for the help and kindness you showed with the UK Snow problems, knowing we had somewhere to stay if needed was a real bonus. Maybe I shouldnt be writing reviews so I can keep this gem a secret and always available for us.....

A stunning tranquil and elegant home from home

Dear Hillary, thank you for allowing us to stay in your lovely home, your good taste shows through in the beautiful touches around the place that make such a difference. We felt at home from the first day and the pool area was a bonus after travelling around sight seeing, being able to come back and take a dip then lounge around under the pergola with a glass of wine was devine. We had such a glorious time and it was hard to drag ourselves away. We enjoyed the delights of Stellenbosch and the surrounding area and thank you for the advise on different restaurants and places to check out, your recommendations were spot on. I would happily recommend this to anybody seeking peace and tranquility while at the same time being in the centre of a vibrant and enchanting wine area.

HILARY & MARK purchased the house in 2004.We then spent the next year upgrading the whole house and have continued to make changes year on year. This year we have upgraded the pool and the private and enclosed back garden. We live in Ireland and plan to retire for the winter months to Stellenbosch to improve our golf game.
