Illyria - a beautiful fisherman's cottage just 3 meters from sea


Illyria is a very old Dalmation fisherman's cottage which has been restored sympathetically to retain the authenticity of the property. The property is set over 3 floors with 2 of the three bedrooms enjoying breathtaking and uninterrupted views across the Adriatic Sea. The property comes with 2 bathrooms both equipped with power showers. Illyria is fully air conditioned throughout and satellite TV is available. Please bear in mind that we do need to change the furniture from time to time because the sea air does take its toll so individual furnishings may not look identical to the photos.
The property has a large terrace with BBQ - you can fish from the terrace and then pop your catch right on your own fire. Illyria is within a short walk of the local amenities including the many fine restaurants and pubs of Postira and the immediate vicinity. Guests may use the gym, spa (incl. manicurist) and sauna/solarium/internet facilities of a nearby hotel for a charge.
The island of Brac is only a 45 min ferry journey from Split which is directly served by an international airport. In the summer months, ferry departures from Split are very frequent i.e. every hour approx. Flights to Zadar (one and half hours drive from Split) and Dubrovnik (3 hours drive from Split) would also be suitable as would flights to Bol on the island of Brac..

We can recommend a very reliable person, based in Split, should you require an airport transfer to the ferry port.

We also own and manage another prime site property, nestled in the heart of Diocletian's palace in Split(see HomeAway listing 1300888).This 120 metre, luxury, 1st floor apartment with its own private terrace (a rarity in Diocletian's palace) is simply stunning and its many guest reviews reflect this. It was recently fully renovated and is now available for rental. If a two-stop Dalmatian holiday is something you are interested in i.e. min 3 days in bustling Split city and it's great restaurants and shops coupled with a min 4 day stay on the island (only 40 mins away) with its great swimming and pure relaxation please let us know and we may be able to arrange it ...

Everything was easy, from start to finish, the paperwork Steven sent explained everything, the cottage was great everything you needed was there, would definitely recommend it and will be back, the village has a few bars and restaurants the restaurant at the Lipo hotel was our favourite

Great house best location

Fantastic house with the ocean on your doorstep. We enjoyed our week here with our 3 teenage kids. Nice little town with everything in walking distance from the house. Very clean and everything lived up to our expectations. Will recommend to anyone that loves the ocean.

A relaxing week

We enjoyed a very relaxing family holiday at Illyria. Steven and Thea have done a wonderful job of sympathetically restoring the cottage without losing it's character. The cottage enjoy a quite position looking towards the mainland in a very pretty and peaceful setting. There are shops, eateries and amenities a short walk away. Overall, a thoroughly enjoyable holiday in a home from home.

Stunning location

This is a very pretty cottage - bijou and compact, with gorgeous views over the sea to the rugged mountains of the mainland opposite. We enjoyed swimming from the rocks, soaking up the sun on the terrace (though be aware that it is in shade from about 2pm - but you can easily walk 50m along the rocks to find sunshine again), and found it comfortable and adequately equipped. The agent was charming and helpful, and Postira itself a very pretty harbour, just a 10 minute stroll, with plenty of restaurants.

Unbelievable setting in a quiet town

Postira is a perfect town to avoid the crowds of tourists, and the Illyria house makes you feel right at home. The sea is right in your backyard, and restaurants, supermarkets, other beaches are within 5-10 minutes walk. The house is basic but has everything you need-- you'll find yourself on the back patio the majority of the time :) The owner and property manager were both extremely receptive. Thanks for a great stay!

Perfect getaway

Illyria is a gem! It was the perfect place for our family to get away for a week and completely unwind. Nikol was a wealth of information and we thoroughly enjoyed the simplicity of Postira. Wonderful people, food and an amazing location. Sitting on the deck each morning and having coffee as the waves came in was heaven. The kitchen had all we needed to cook, and everything in the house was clean and comfortable. We will be back!

The best of Brac

Illyria cottage was the very best. It was clean and comfortable and the view was spectacular. We swam everyday in front of the house. We cooked dinner at home twice and enjoyed the restaurants in town on the other nights. Parking was ample as soon as we knew where to park. We enjoyed the beach bar. ā€œIncognitoā€. Absolutely a memory of a lifetime!

This property looked wonderful on the website but location far exceeded expectations. Very simple design with all the necessary facilities all of which worked perfectly. Perhaps cushions on sun beds and an extra umbrella would have added something. Air con was definitely necessary and worked very efficiently. Thank you

Incredible house by the sea

This amazing home was even more than we expected and we had high expectancies. The water lapping up to the back door and the sound of the waves was very relaxing. We ate at nearby restaurants and met several locals down by the beach. The manager was kind and helpful. We knew we were going to be traveling in an off season, but we found plenty to do. We have stayed at many VRBO properties. This is definitely one we will alwlays remember as beautiful and peaceful.

Fantastic location

We stayed here for 5 nights and absolutely loved the place. The thought of just opening the door, take a few steps and go for a swim is breathtaking. Part from the location next to the water, Illyria itself is a wonderful house. Very well kept and fresh. It was also very well equipped. We were two families staying here and we never missed anything. I highly recommend Illyria to anyone looking for a wonderfully situated place in a very quiet but charming village. I also recommend anyone to walk to the village of Dol, an easy 30-45 min(depending on pace, of course) walk in a beautiful landscape.

Paradise by the Adriatic

We....grandparents (74), son/daughter-in-law and grandsons (9 and 11) and daughter...are already trying to work out a return to Illyriaā¤ļø. After 11 days in Split and a fabulous speed boat delivery to Postira, we spent 8 days in the Robinson's little gem, Illyria Cottage. It was possibly the most relaxing 8 days we've spent traveling in ages.... And a perfect complement to our 11 days in the Robinson's Apartment Prisca in Split. Ivan met us in Split to make our arrangements. We spent most of our mornings with coffee first on the patio and then at Konoba Bracera ....lovely spot next to the sea. We tried most of the TripAdvisor recommended restaurants... I have a public Instagram account with lots of pictures (patwilburn73) and an open Facebook group (CROATIA2017) if you're interested.

A real gem directly at the seashore

We stayed in August one week with the family in Illyria. The setting of the previous fisherman's house is absolutely ideal, everything in Postira (supermarket, restaurants) is only a few hundred meters away. It is phantastic to sit at the seashore in the morning on the terrace with a coffee to watch the sunrise. For runners or just for swimming, there is a great trail 5 km to the south along three or four bays, some of them really remote and lovely. We found this little house really wonderful - with a lot of attention to detail in all rooms. The house is just beautiful and one could really spend the whole day just sitting on the terrace. In front of the house are also a few good spots for snorkeling. Everything one needs even for a longer stay (dish washer, washing machine, coffee machine etc) is provided and we missed absolutely nothing. We loved our stay and we could not have thought about any better place to stay on Brac Island.

Perfect retreat

We could not have been more pleased with our stay at Illyria! The house had absolutely everything we needed, and was ideally located for us. We went swimming most days from the back porch, and every morning enjoyed coffee in the neighborhood cafes. Several times we walked to spend the day at Lovrečina, or exploring around Postira. It was very easy to rent bikes, scooters, or cars when we wanted to explore outside the immediate area, and by renting a car on Brač we got discounts on all ferries to and from the island. The house has all of the amenities we could have hoped for, and we were well set up to cook at home several nights, plus with three small groceries with in walking distance, or the larger stores in Supetar, it was easy to find anything we needed for the kitchen. We explored several of the restaurants in Postira as well and we never dissatisfied. I would go back there again any time! Thanks so much Steven for a great stay!

Stunning Views

We arrived late on a Saturday evening after a late flight. We were met by Ivan and Marina in Split who had purchased our ferry tickets and arranged a taxi from Supetar to Postira and passed on lots of information regarding our stay. The property is well maintained and very clean with everything you need for a comfortable stay with stunning views from the terrace to the mainland. We spent most of our time relaxing on the terrace and swimming in the clear sea. We visited the beautiful Lovrecina beach which is about twenty minutes walk from the property and the small Eco village of Dol which is the same distance. The bars and restaurants in Postira are five minutes walk from the property and we would recommend Konobu Gustirna and Konobu Kactus (across the road from Illyria). We would highly recommend this property and look forward to returning in the future to this beautiful location.

Hidden dream

What you see is what you get, plus!!!! We recently stayed here for four days and had trouble leaving. The views are breathtaking, the island is beautiful and very easy to be adventurous either by foot or car. The house is well suited for 6, although we were a party of four . It is tastefully decorated. The outside patio is lovely for your morning coffee to a glass of wine in the evening. You can swim off the rocks at the back patio. Grocery and restaurants are within walking distance. Definitely go and eat Peka in Dol. We rented bikes and fell in love with a local beach down the street with sparkling waters, a beach bar and because of the time of year , not crowded. Ivan the manager stayed in touch to help answer any questions. We just loved it !

One small problem - we did not want to leave!

We spent 10 nights in this lovely property. Everything was as good as the photos suggest. The house was well appointed and in the perfect location. We had a car so visited most of the island, and all agreed that Postira was the best place to stay - even though a lot of the houses are rentals, the town still has a very authentic and non-touristy feel. It was also very central to travel to all other places on the island. A special highlight for us was the restaurant right on the waterfront in Splitska. This was a very pleasant walk there and back, and the fish was always good (we went 3 times!) The best value restaurant was Konobu Gustirna in Postira. The seafood platter is of consistently good quality (again, we ate here 3 times and some friends staying nearby were not disappointed with our recommendation). If visiting early in the season, note that the Konobu Kactus (across the road from Illyria) does not open until late May - we were very disappointed as we were expecting to get our first meal there on arrival late in the day. Stay here, and you will not be disappointed.

Home away from home

We stayed here for a week with our two children, 8 and 11 years old and it really felt cozy and comfortable. The terrace was very inviting and you could easily spend a whole day just listening to the waves and watching the ships go by in the distance. The local fisherman were also interesting to watch. The town center is just beautiful with restaurants and bakeries right at the water and a 5 minute walk from the house. We loved the local beaches and it was a lot of fun to explore the town on foot. The surrounding towns were just a short drive away and also so much fun! Kids loved Muzej Ulja/Olive Oil museum tour and food tasting! Zlatni Rat beach was just a short drive away and right next to a cute town of Bol. This area was more busy and touristy so we were happy to be able to go back to our beautiful fisherman house in the evening to enjoy the sunset from the terrace! It was so magical! Our host Nicol was amazing and informative. She was very friendly and kind! She mades us feel welcome and we felt like we had a great friend in town! Kids loved it so much that they want to move to Croatia now! šŸ˜„

Fabulously located and characterful cottage

Our family of five had a wonderful 12 days in Illyria. We adored hanging out on the sea terrace stirring only for the occasional dip or to do a spot of fishing off the rocks. The cottage is simple but had everything we needed and plenty of space for five adults. Enjoying breakfast, lunch and dinner on the terrace was the highlight of the holiday. Postira is a lovely authentic village which, even in August, was blissfully quiet. There are a handful of lovely restaurants and more bars all serving excellent and inexpensive food and drink. When we ventured further afield we discovered the beautiful and ancient village of Dol, the wonderfully picturesque Pucisca and the bustling and busy resort of Bol. All were worth a visit. We rented a boat and a skipper from Postira and crossed to Omis with its magnificent gorge and ancient castle. After an excellent lunch at sea we took in some gorgeous deserted coves where we swam off the boat. This is undoubtedly the best located cottage we've ever stayed in and we are feeling thoroughly relaxed and sun-kissed as we head back to English autumn. A little slice of Heaven

I cannot say enough good things about Illyria. We stayed here after spending 3 weeks in Italy, it was the ideal way to end our holiday. Italy was very busy, hot and we were on the go a lot. Illyria we spent our days by the sea that is 10 steps from your back door. A car is not needed my husband and I rented a scooter one day to explore the island and decided Postria was the our favorite town. There were 5 of us staying at the house me and my husband and our 3 kids ages 15,17,19. It was unanimous that Illyria was the highlight of our trip. The house is well equipped with anything you may need, it is very clean and beautifully updated. Everything in posteria is with in walking distance, there is a small store a within 100 meters or so then there is a bigger store with more choices in town a 5 minute walk or so. Plus there are many activities to do you can be a busy as you want with water activities, hiking, exploring etc.... we were happy relaxing after being on the go for 3 weeks. I look forward to the day when I can return to this beautiful place.

Delivered on all expectations - superb

We are three generations ranging in age from 51 to 9. Illyria caters for everyone. Not only is it in the perfect location, close to two supermarkets, a butcher and several restaurants as well as having the Mediterranean Sea on the doorstep (completely safe to bathe in there and then), the owners have provided entertainment by way of toys and games and a huge selection of film DVD's for rainy days. Not that we had any! There is a gorgeous sandy beach that can be reached by a lovely sedate walk (circa 50 mins) or as we did 15 mins by hiring bikes, which has a bar and restaurant. The restaurant grows many of its own ingredients right next to it and all food is cooked to order. It was fabulous. The island of Brac is beautiful. We arrived by private boat transfer which was stress freely arranged via the owners of Illyria. It's a bit extra to pay than the ferry but well worth it. Illyria is such a relaxing cottage to stay in and had everything we needed. I highly recommend to anyone planning to come to Croatia, take a few days out on the island of Brac, and stay at Illyria. You will not be disappointed! Xxx

This property really does offer visitors the best a seaside holiday has to offer. It's perfectly located right on the water's edge. The Adriatic is wonderful for swimming with water temperatures at about 24 - 28 degrees Celsius in peak season. The cottage is located in a working fishing village environment where most inhabitants live directly from the land or sea

We are now able to offer guests a two stop holiday experience, with a fisherman's cottage on Brac and a luxurious inner city apartment ( sleeping ) in the heart of the roman Diocletian's palace in Split, see property no. 1300888. Also, in 2015 and in partnership with some very enthusiastic locals we set up Gecko Tours, based in Split, to showcase all that is very best about Dalmatia to offer guests a truly authentic view of the area and its culture. Guests of Illyria may be offered discounts on certain tours, so please ask.
