Altenkirchen is situated on the Wittow peninsula, not far from the traditional fishing village of Wiek, and is exempt from tourist tax. A beautiful coastal path runs along the Baltic Sea coast to the north of the village, stretching approximately 7 km to Cape Arkona. Along the way, the sandy beach of Bakenberg lies below the cliffs and coastal forest.

Nearby activities: Boat trips to the island of Hiddensee or to the Störtebeker Festival depart from the Breeger Bodden lagoon. Take your time for hikes through expansive forests and heaths; this is the best way to discover the impressive diversity of nature. A trip to the port city of Sassnitz, located on the edge of the Jasmund National Park, is also highly recommended.
