Enjoy the magnificent sunrises over the Schlei from the 24th floor of the Wikingturm, which rises nearly 90 meters from the Schlei into the sky. Above the clouds...
Through the panoramic windows, you can experience the ever-changing play of light created by the interplay of sun, clouds, and wind. You’ll look out toward Möweninsel, gaze toward Haddebyer Noor, and across the Marienbad all the way to the Hüttener Berge. Looking down, you’ll see the bustling activity at the Wiking Marina, where you can explore the Schlei by paddleboat or kayak. The historic Schlei steamboat “Wappen von Schleswig” invites you to enjoy wonderful cruises along the Schlei, complete with refreshments. The dock is just a 10-minute walk away.
Very close to the apartment and thus within walking distance is Gottorf Castle, with its diverse museums and exhibitions, the Baroque garden, and the unique walk-through “ Globus. ” The city center is about 2 km away via the Schlei Promenade and Königswiesen City Park. From there, you’ll also be right in the beautiful Schleswig Old Town, near St. Petri Cathedral, in the old fishing village of Holm, or at the city harbor, which features an excellent seafood restaurant. Ideal for exploring on foot, by bike, or by scooter without having to use any roads. It’s a 10-minute bike ride to the Haithabu Museum and Viking Village and to Haddebyer Noor.
Small but lovely beaches (Luisenbad on the north side or Restaurant Marienbad on the south side of the Schlei) are about a 2-km walk away. Swimming in the Schlei is wonderful, and enjoying a cappuccino or ice cream afterward with a view of the Schlei and the Viking Tower is a real treat when the weather is nice. The indoor pool with a sauna (Fjordarium) offers relaxation and refreshment on rainy days.
Right next to the Viking Tower is a small public garden with lots of flowers and seating, including a barbecue area. Next to it is an Asian restaurant with excellent cuisine. Nearby, a mini-golf course invites you to play.
By bike, car, or sailboat, you can explore the diverse and unique landscapes of the north; along the Schlei through beautiful little towns like Arnis, Kappeln, and Maasholm, or to the Baltic Sea or North Sea, and even directly to Eckernförde (23 km), Flensburg (36 km), Husum (38 km), and Kiel (50 km)—all wonderful day trips. Leisure activities such as hiking, biking, sailing, boat trips, horseback riding (nearby in Fahrdorf on the Schlei), and much more are possible from Schleswig!
