Lauterbach on Rügen, an idyllic district of the town of Putbus, is located directly on the Greifswalder Bodden and offers not only a maritime atmosphere but also numerous opportunities for excursions into the diverse surrounding area. Just a short walk away lies the royal seat of Putbus with its neoclassical townscape, the famous Circus (a circular square lined with gleaming white houses), the sprawling castle park with its wildlife reserve, and the historic theater. A highlight for culture and architecture enthusiasts. Guided excursions to the island of Vilm depart regularly from the Lauterbach harbor—a strictly protected natural paradise that may only be accessed with a permit. The unspoiled landscape, with its ancient beech forests and rare plant species, is unique in Europe.
Right on your doorstep, the Greifswald Bodden invites you to enjoy long walks, bike rides, or kayaking trips. The tranquil coastline, birdwatching, and sunsets make this area a paradise for nature lovers and those seeking peace and quiet.
The well-known Baltic Sea resorts of Binz, Sellin, and Göhren are also within easy reach—either by car or, for a touch of nostalgia, via the “Rasender Roland,” the historic steam train that stops right in Lauterbach. Another popular destination in the region is Granitz Hunting Lodge, situated on Tempelberg, which offers a spectacular panoramic view of the island from its observation tower. For nature lovers, a detour to the Mönchgut Peninsula is well worth it; with its unspoiled landscape, small fishing villages, and vast meadows, it conveys an authentic picture of traditional Rügen.
Whether you’re looking for relaxing days by the water, cultural and historical discoveries, or nature adventures—Lauterbach is the perfect starting point for experiencing Rügen in all its diversity.
