Terrific Camp

We planned on staying for a family trip and the place was perfect. Secluded enough to get a real outdoors feeling but close enough to the rivers for fishing if the lake was too windy for the canoe. All in all, a real great place to stay.

Beautiful

We completely enjoyed our time here. It was quiet, the fishing was decent right from the dock, and we enjoyed taking the canoe out in the morning.

Great place to stay. The place is clean, quiet, and peaceful. Everything you need is there. The host was wonderful, excellent with communication. If you needed to talk to him, he was avaliable. Beautiful setting with views of the lake. I would recommend this place to anybody, we will be back again!

The cabin was perfect. It was exactly what we hoped for. It was extremely comfortable and you can't beat the views. Joe was quick to answer our questions. He went out of his way to make sure we had all the amenities he offered. We would definitely stay there again.

girls weekend

We had a great time. You cannot ask for a better view and the Cabin was very comfortable,it had everything you need to keep busy or just relax and enjoy .

This property has everything you need for an amazing vacation on the lake. It’s clean, the beds/ pillows are very comfortable and it has a great shower. We enjoyed using the kayaks each day on the lake & river. The outdoor space is incredible and has lots of options to gather. Everything is brand new in the shotgun shack. The owner provides great information on the property and the surrounding area. Would highly recommend this property!

So quiet and peaceful!

Beautiful property that offered everything we had hoped for. Close enough to Vermont for a day trip via the Ferry which was a nice experience. Joe was the best Host anyone could ask for and we are already planning our next trip. Thanks Joe!

This is such a special place! My family and I had a wonderful stay at Joe's cabin.The property was exactly as described - cozy, comfortable, and incredibly well equipped. The kitchen was stocked with everything we could possibly have needed, making it easy to prepare meals throughout our stay. The beds were comfortable, and the cabin was the perfect place to relax after a day outdoors.We made use of the kayaks, canoe, and paddleboards every day, which was an amazing bonus. The fishing was fantastic as well—my family had great luck every single day!Be sure to catch the sunset - and stick around afterward. The sky somehow becomes even more beautiful for the next hour, making it one of the highlights of our stay.If you're looking to escape the hustle and bustle, this is the perfect retreat. The cabin feels wonderfully secluded while still offering every comfort you need.Joe was an exceptional host. His communication was excellent from start to finish. Before our arrival, he provided a wealth of helpful information about the property and the area, and he was always available to answer any questions.We couldn't have asked for a better experience, and we can't wait to come back!

Awesome stay at the lake

We had an amazing week at Chateaugay Lake! The house was comfortable and had everything we needed for a relaxing stay. We loved paddle boarding and kayaking right from the dock and swimming in the clear lake. The location was beautiful and peaceful, perfect for unwinding in the hammock or just soaking in the views. We also took some fantastic day trips to Burlington and Lake Placid, which added to the adventure. We can't wait to come back!

Amazing family weekend

This was an amazing time. The owner was keeping me updating on everything, provided so much information about the area and things to do. They also provided everything we could hope for to have a great time at the lake and games for in the evening. Everyone is already asking to go back.

Early Summer Vacation

We have visited many Lake Houses in the ADK's. The Anchor is definitely one of our favorites. Joe provides everything imaginable from various water craft to games and all household essentials. Would highly recommend.

Perfect getaway

This is a great place to go and relax, it’s such a peaceful place! The house was comfortable and had everything we needed, inside and outside. It was too cold for swimming, but we loved sitting outside and listening to the birds & loons and seeing the Milky Way over the water. Joseph was a great host and gave us lots of helpful suggestions on nearby places to eat or explore. I hope to go back and stay longer!

Perfect holiday

My husband and I have stayed at this property three times. We love returning to the lake. Waking up to the view never gets old. And we enjoy seeing the changes to the house, the outbuildings, and the docks. This place gets better and better! We'll be back!

Fantastic Getaway

We loved our stay at the Anchor! It is such a beautiful, secluded property on a pristine, quiet Adirondack lake... you can get lost driving on the nearby country roads and enjoy the bounty of the farm stands you've stopped at along the way. The property was exactly what we were looking for. Joe has provided all of the essential amenities, you truly feel like a guest in his home! We loved using the paddle boards, kayaks & canoe.. and the fire pit was perfect at night.

Exceeded expectations

The house had everything we needed for a relaxing long weekend. Well stocked kitchen and bathroom, the shower had great water pressure, the living room was cozy and comfortable, and the panoramic lake view was amazing! We stayed in early spring, it was chilly and had some rain, so we didn't go swimming or kayaking, but we enjoyed every minute whether it was hanging out on the dock, fires on the patio or morning coffee in the lean-to. We have rented dozens of houses and cabins over the years, and this was one of the best.

Great week at the anchor

We had a terrific week, we had a wash out day when we first arrived, just relaxed in the cabin that day enjoying each other's company. The rest of the week we swam, canoed/kayaked, played yard games and went fishing. We did well catching smallmouth bass and perch. Joe is great he made us feel welcome and was responsive to anything we needed. We will come back !!

Beautiful Property

The location was absolutely perfect. It was quiet, peaceful and really beautiful. We enjoyed using the yard games and kayaks and canoe. We also enjoyed the property owners interesting souvenirs and photos from his travels. I wasn't impressed with the cleanliness of the cabin considering the additional cleaning fee, that may be something the property owner needs to discuss with the property manager. And if suggestions for updates are taken into consideration, I would recommend replacing the carpet in the living room.

Client initially says this via e-mail: Hi Joe, I just submitted my review for your cabin. It was a really beautiful location and we had a great time. A couple of things- I wasn't too happy with the cleanliness of the cabin and I am wondering if that is something you need to discuss with your property manager. I mentioned this in the review, but wanted to let you know privately so it didn't catch you off guard. Also, the washing machine start button was a little tricky. It may need some maintenance. We really enjoyed the place otherwise and especially enjoyed the peacefulness of the location. Jessica Then I asked the client for clarification since my property manager has been taking care of both internal and external areas of the cabin for 10 years and any complaint is highly unusual. The client replies with more details via e-mail: Hi Joe, It seemed the floors were swept and the counters were wiped down in the main areas. The bedroom floors were a bit dusty as well as other surfaces. Also the big window in the living room was noticeably dirty. Please know that we still had a wonderful stay When asked my property manager about this, Allen’s reply was: As for dusty floors I am a bit perplexed. Every floor that is not carpeted gets the wet Swiffer treatment and every room with a carpet (3 of total) is thoroughly vacuumed every time I am there. As for dust accumulation on the blinds, this is a possibility. I will double-check the next time I am there. Sounds like your place was given the white glove treatment. Solution: Continue offering an awesome cabin in pristine condition. Yes, the double pane living room window has slight mist between both panes, and the carpet will be replaced once I add a screened-in porch off the living room. Also, Allen will add one deep cleaning in the middle of the season to include dusting the blinds. However, the main focus is on the big picture, such as a new 32’ dock planned for next year.

Peaceful retreat

The Anchor has everything you need to escape. A beautiful firepit patio off the back door that has wide steps leading to a floating deck with Adirondack chairs and then not just one dock but three docks that you can fish, kayak, paddle board, or swim from. The floating dock is a great place to fish from or perfect your cannonball from. The bedrooms are spacious and kitchen has all the tools you could need. The Shotgun Shack is newly renovated and a perfect place for adult children. As a family of 6 we found it perfect. Joe has thought of everything .Our children range in age from 9 years old to 24 years. We recommend The Anchor for your next getaway and will be returning next year.

Everything You Want or Need

Just home from our 1 week stay at The Anchor, and simply enough the place has EVERYTHING, you only need to bring your swim suit, fishing pole, food, and your favorite cold drink. Everything else (and more) is included at the house, along with plenty to do (kayaks, lawn toys, etc.), a fabulous view of the lake and sunsets only found on post cards. Caught 2-4 lb bass directly from the dock, but great fishing can be found all over the lake. The area has a nice mix of local owned shops for bait, produce, baked goods, fire wood, and ice-cream while towns of Malone (20 min) and Plattsburg (40 min) can be easily reached when you need it. Overall an A+ for house and owner. Can't wait until next time!

Beautifully maintained property and lake cottage.

We thoroughly enjoyed the stay at Joe’s cabin. The description is totally accurate and the place is very comfortable inside and out. The views from the living room and master bedroom are lovely and everything is clean, neat and well cared for. Joe was very easy to communicate with and his caretaker, Allen, was also very responsive and helpful and easy to talk to. We loved the many outside venues: the platform for sitting up above the lake, the dock with the bench at the water’s edge, the floating platform/raft to swim out to, and the picnic table up by the house. One recommendation would be to get some Adirondack chairs and place them around for relaxing and reading and enjoying morning coffee or a glass of wine while watching the sunset. Also, the outside lighting around the picnic table could be better. It’s difficult to sit outside and eat at the table in the dark. If one has difficulty with stairs and uneven ground, this may not be the place to rent because the cabin has numerous levels and the outside areas are rather steep and uneven. We all had no trouble. Our stay was thoroughly enjoyed by all.

Lake Cabin with Gorgeous Sunsets

The cottage is cozy, but the main attraction here is Upper Chateaugay Lake, which is beautiful. The property is right on the lake, shaded by pine trees, with multiple docks/platforms, and a lean-to for different views in different types of weather (it's in the mountains, so the weather can change very quickly). The sunsets in particular are stunning--different every night, and they seem to last for hours. The location is very remote, so good for folks who like wildlife, swimming, hiking, and boating of all kinds. Water access isn't as easy as it might be, as you'll need to carry them up and down stairs (and there is nowhere to tie them up in the water), but once you've got them in there are lots of places to explore around the lake. Bring water shoes as the shoreline is rocky. There are two grills (gas and charcoal) and a large picnic table for outdoor dining. There are neighboring houses on both sides; one is hidden by a fence, and the other oriented in a different direction, so we weren't overly conscious of them, except on the weekends, when they got quite noisy; happily, weekdays were beautifully quiet. Watersports on the lake can also get loud (jet-skies, speed boats, etc.). But all told, we loved our stay!

Happy to report I will be getting a 32' dock next spring so there will not be any issues with kayak/canoe moving.
