Tanglewood at Vosburgh’s Custom Cabin Rentals is a classic Northwoods cabin overlooking Moose Lake, offering a comfortable home base for families, anglers and paddlers who want to experience the Boundary Waters while still enjoying the conveniences of cabin life.
Located near our central waterfront, Tanglewood puts you close to the docks, boats and all the activity of Moose Lake. Step outside in the morning, listen for the loons, head down to the water for a day of fishing or paddling, then return to your cabin for dinner and a quiet evening in the Northwoods.
Best of all, Vosburgh’s is one of Ely’s few cabin resorts located directly on a Boundary Waters entry lake. We sit on Moose Lake—BWCAW Entry Point 25—so you can paddle or boat from our landing directly into the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness without driving or shuttling to another launch.
THE CABIN
Tanglewood sleeps up to six guests and is a wonderful choice for families, couples traveling together and small fishing groups.
The cabin has two bedrooms, a full bathroom, a fully equipped kitchen and comfortable living and dining areas. The warm wood interior and freestanding wood stove give Tanglewood the feel of a traditional Northwoods cabin, especially on cool spring and fall evenings.
The kitchen makes it easy to prepare meals throughout your stay, whether you’re cooking breakfast before an early morning fishing trip or gathering around the table for dinner after a full day outside.
Bed linens and blankets are provided. Guests should bring their own bath and kitchen towels.
DIRECT ACCESS TO THE BOUNDARY WATERS
One of the things that makes a stay at Vosburgh’s truly special is our location.
The resort sits directly on Moose Lake, BWCAW Entry Point 25. From our landing, guests can launch a canoe or boat and travel directly into the Boundary Waters.
There’s no need to put the canoe on your vehicle or drive to another entry point. Head down to the water and start exploring.
That makes Tanglewood an excellent basecamp for families who want to introduce their children to canoe country, anglers looking to explore the Moose Lake chain, and experienced paddlers who simply want the convenience of staying right at a BWCAW entry lake.
Spend a morning paddling into the wilderness and still come home that evening to a hot shower, full kitchen and comfortable bed.
Guests traveling into areas that require a BWCAW permit are responsible for obtaining the appropriate permit. We’re happy to share local knowledge and help point you toward resources for planning your trip.
BOAT & CANOE INCLUDED WITH WEEKLY STAYS
Stays of seven nights or longer include use of a 16-foot Lund fishing boat and canoe.
Motor rentals are available separately, and guests are welcome to bring their own motor of 25 hp or less.
Additional boating and fishing equipment may be available, including 25 hp motors, trolling motors, depth finders and canoes. Live bait and other fishing necessities are also available at the resort.
Guests have access to our shared docks, boathouse and screened fish-cleaning house, making Tanglewood an especially convenient choice for anglers.
FISHING, PADDLING & SWIMMING
Moose Lake and the surrounding chain offer excellent opportunities for fishing, boating, canoeing and swimming.
Anglers can pursue walleye, northern pike, smallmouth bass and lake trout in the surrounding waters. Fish early in the morning, return to the cabin for lunch and head back out for the evening bite.
Paddlers can leave directly from our landing and explore the BWCAW, while families can spend an easy afternoon swimming and playing around the docks.
We don’t have a swimming pool—the lake is our swimming hole.
Children should always be supervised around the water and docks.
A GREAT FAMILY BASECAMP
Tanglewood is a particularly nice option for families who want their children to experience the Boundary Waters without committing to a full wilderness camping trip.
Take a family paddle into the BWCAW, spend an afternoon fishing, swim from the docks or explore one of the many nearby hiking trails. At the end of the day, you still have your own kitchen, bathroom, comfortable beds and cabin waiting for you.
It’s an easy way to give children a taste of canoe country while keeping the trip relaxed and flexible.
EXPLORE THE ELY AREA
There’s plenty to explore away from the water as well.
Nearby hiking opportunities include Kawishiwi Falls and the Secret/Blackstone trail system, along with many other trails and outdoor destinations throughout the Fernberg corridor.
Downtown Ely is an easy drive from the resort, with restaurants, shops, outfitters and local attractions.
Or simply stay at the cabin. Some of the best Northwoods vacations don't need much of an itinerary.
TRAVELING WITH A LARGER GROUP?
Tanglewood is located near Shorewood, our spacious cabin that sleeps up to 10.
Families and groups can reserve both cabins, providing accommodations for up to 16 guests while still giving everyone separate sleeping spaces and room to spread out.
This can be a great setup for extended-family vacations, multiple families traveling together, fishing groups and reunions.
Please inquire about availability if you're interested in renting both cabins.
A FAMILY-RUN RESORT WITH GENERATIONS OF HISTORY
Vosburgh’s Custom Cabin Rentals is a family-run resort with generations of history on Moose Lake.
Our family has welcomed guests to this special part of northern Minnesota for decades, and we continue to enjoy helping visitors experience Moose Lake, the Boundary Waters and the Ely area.
We’re happy to share local knowledge about fishing, paddling, hiking and day trips. Whether this is your first visit to the Boundary Waters or your family has been coming north for years, just ask.
Vosburgh’s is a traditional multi-cabin resort rather than a collection of isolated vacation homes. Tanglewood is your own private cabin, while the central waterfront, docks, landing, boathouse and fish-cleaning facilities are shared with guests staying in our other cabins.
For many returning guests, that combination of a private cabin and a small family-resort atmosphere is part of what makes a week here special.
WIFI & CELL SERVICE
Starlink WiFi is available at our boathouse, with more limited or intermittent connectivity at the cabins. Cell service may also vary depending on your carrier.
If you need reliable high-speed internet throughout your stay, please keep our remote setting in mind when booking.
For many guests, being a little less connected is part of the appeal.
PETS
Tanglewood is pet-friendly.
Pets must be supervised and may not be left unattended in the cabin. Please review our current pet policies before your stay and remember that this is a wilderness setting where wildlife may be present.
Smoking is not permitted inside the cabin.
WHAT TO BRING
Bed linens and blankets are provided. Guests should bring their own bath and kitchen towels, personal toiletries, food and any specialized fishing or outdoor equipment they would like to use.
SEASON & STAYS
Vosburgh’s operates seasonally, generally from May through October.
Most summer reservations are Saturday-to-Saturday. More flexible stays may be available depending on the season and availability, particularly during spring and fall.
If your dates don't fit a traditional weekly stay, please inquire.
KNOW BEFORE YOU BOOK
Tanglewood is part of an established, family-run cabin resort. You’ll have your own private cabin while sharing the waterfront, docks, boat landing, boathouse and fish-cleaning facilities with guests from our other cabins.
This is a traditional Northwoods resort in a wilderness setting rather than a luxury hotel. Cell and internet service can be limited, wildlife is part of the experience, and the lake—not a swimming pool—is where summer afternoons are spent.
What you get in return is increasingly difficult to find: a comfortable cabin on Moose Lake with boats, fishing, family-run hospitality and direct water access to the Boundary Waters.
YOUR BOUNDARY WATERS BASECAMP
Wake to loons on Moose Lake. Have coffee before heading down to the docks. Spend the morning fishing or launch a canoe and paddle directly into the BWCAW. Hike a nearby trail in the afternoon, swim in the lake, then return to Tanglewood for dinner and a quiet evening by the wood stove.
Whether you come for a family vacation, fishing trip, paddling adventure or simply some time away in the Northwoods, Tanglewood offers a comfortable home base with one extraordinary amenity just outside: the Boundary Waters.
