An artistic and comfortable three bedroom house plus two sleeping cabins, we were a star feature on the recent Parade of Homes tour. We are located at the end of a dirt road and nestled in six acres of surreal boulder landscape. We are equally close to the Park entrance and Pioneertown. Off the back porch is 200 acres of park-like desert to explore. Loaded with features and nice touches, and . . . the most sublime hot tub experience in the high desert!


** NOTE: The listed base rate is for the main house - up to FOUR GUESTS. Rates including the sleeping cabins are structured according to guest count. Please read rates carefully when requesting a booking. We keep the maximum at ten guests.

There are stunning boulder views from every window. Outside, enjoy the back porch, the 'lookout lounge' which overlooks the town of Joshua Tree and the national park, a hot tub, a cowboy tub, a yoga deck, a horseshoe pit, barbecue, great hangout spots, and more boulder piles than you can explore in a weekend.

Just off the back porch is over 200 acres of pristine desert for you to explore. Nothing but boulders, joshua trees, wildlife . . . And silence!

A scenic walking bridge takes you to a new six person saltwater hot tub surrounded by boulders - a stargazer's dream!

We are uniquely situated between the national park entrance in Joshua Tree and Pappy & Harriet's in Pioneertown - the best daytime and nighttime activities the high desert has to offer.

Or. . . You may decide you don't want to leave Sweet Rock at all!

This place is truly fantastic - we stayed 4 nights but could have stayed so much longer! It was one of the best vrbos we have stayed in. The house itself isn’t luxurious, but it is very clean and perfect. Homey and lovely. The small cabins are very cute and rustic, just as advertised. We were with another family and together had 6 kids ages 8-17 with us - we hardly needed to leave the property as there were so many rocks to climb and places to explore. We would stay again.

The kitchen was nearly as well stocked as my own, which is unprecedented. The beds were comfortable. The house was roomy. The views and the grounds were spectacular. The host was accommodating and easy.

Awesome Family Time!

Memorable stay with our family! Great location and beautiful grounds! The house was very clean, and comfortable. The kitchen had everything we needed to cook and grill. We had no issues what so ever with check-in, it went very smoothly John is a great communicator, instructions were easy to follow. We were very happy with our stay, we felt as though we were secluded and in the wilderness surrounded by boulders and wildlife. The locations of hot tub & cowboy tub felt very intimate for a relaxing time. Our family enjoyed the house so much we will return next year. Thank you John for your recommendations and suggestions

Wonderful Retreat

Lovely property with a comfortable and friendly space. Worked qell fpr two small kids and adults who wanted to soak up the desert. Sunrise thrpugh the master window is great. Cannot recommend enough.

Wonderful place to stay close to the national park, though one could spend days just enjoying and exploring the property itself. The property around the house provides accessible hikes with breathtaking views and the property grounds and home are full of unique touches

Exceptional setting, inside and out

This is a gorgeous house in spectacular desert setting. We watched the sunset and star gazed from the hot tub. The layout of rooms--with an extra small detached bedroom--was perfect for our all-grown-up family. We all like to cook and the kitchen was well-appointed. (It is the best-labeled kitchen of any VRBO we've ever stayed in!) The living room is welcoming, with a modern brick fireplace (bring your own logs). The bathrooms are small but very functional. All around a well cared for and beautiful home away from home!

Amazing!!!

I recently had the most incredible stay at an VRBO that I will never forget. The highlight of the property was the outdoor bed, which was perfect for stargazing. The mattress was so comfortable and I fell asleep under the twinkling night sky feeling like I was in a dream. The property itself was absolutely stunning, with beautiful Joshua trees and a peaceful atmosphere. I loved exploring the grounds and taking in the natural beauty that surrounded me. One of my favorite features was the cowboy tub, where I spent hours relaxing and enjoying the sunshine. The hosts were so welcoming and made me feel right at home. They were friendly and were very communicative The attention to detail in the design of the property was truly impressive and added an extra touch of grandour to my stay. I cannot recommend this VRBO enough. If you're looking for a unique and unforgettable experience, look no further than this beautiful property. I will definitely be returning in the future.

Beautiful Ranch

My spouse and I had a wonderful stay at this beautiful desert ranch. The home was comfortable, well appointed and filled with thoughtful touches. The property is a private desert oasis. We really enjoyed the many birds and rabbits that visit the back porch.

Gorgeous Property and Home

John & Deva’s home is beautiful, and the property itself is unbelievably gorgeous with all the large boulders, amenities, and wildlife. John and Deva were great at communicating and made sure we had everything we needed, and made sure everything was going well for us. I would highly recommend staying here with them. I will for sure stay again if I am ever back in the area!

Voice of nature

This was my first time in the Joshua Tree/Yucca Valley area and it exceeded expectations. The area around Sweet Rock Ranch makes you feel like you’ve rented a space within the national park. The hiking trails out back are as close to private as you can get, with awe inspiring views in all directions. While the silence is bliss, it feels like a loud voice of nature speaking to you as the wind blows. Very special place. The accommodations were wonderful, everything was in great shape with simple straightforward directions. We rented the Homestead Cabin which was equally amazing. The only downside of the property would be there only being two bathrooms, and no on site laundry. The bathrooms were very clean and well appointed. The kitchen was well stocked and easy to use for us, we did a lot of cooking during our stay. I spent a lot of time finding this place and it was worth the extra time. Highly recommended and a perfect distance from the stores.

amazing weekend

we’ve been doing an annual friends weekend for almost a decade. this was our best one yet! the pictures don’t do justice to the amazing beauty of the surrounding property. the house and its amenities are exceptionally well designed, with cozy spots for coming together as well as many different areas to explore for smaller groups. the outdoor bed was a particular highlight, but so were the record collection and the hot tub. everything is very well labeled, explained, and maintained. thanks for helping make our annual weekend extra special this time around—

Amazing property and location

Amazing desert home

Sweet Rock Ranch is incredible! From the decor to the location to the amenities you could not ask for a better vacation home near Joshua Tree. We especially enjoyed watching the birds at the feeder while we drank our morning coffee on the porch. Can’t wait to come back!!

Everything one could want in the desert

One of my favorite places I’ve ever stayed in! The home and surrounding boulder wonderland literally had everything and anything our group ever looked for or desired and from start to finish all communication and movement was easy and pleasant. Will definitely be coming back

Very nice retreat, couple of caveats

Beautiful location with lovely sunrises and views of the valley below. Also the array of morning birds (we saw a roadrunner), bunnies, bouldering, and record collection add to the charm. We stayed in spring and the location high on valley side made the winds, at times, quite strong. Lots of nice amenities, but lack of a washer/dryer was a minor annoyance for week-long stay, when daily hiking is to be expected, especially given the daily price for accommodations. Finally, the website explanation for extra guest daily charges was confusing, and host did not respond to initial VRBO question that would have clarified things. Host was very responsive once we were at the property. All in all a nice experience.

Home nestled in nature

Wonderful home with boulder piles and Joshua Trees right up to the back door. The home was large and clean and neat and we liked that it had all the drawers and cabinets were well marked with their contents. Great and clear instructions for everything from the air conditioning to the hot tub. The owner was very responsive to questions and inquiries. Super cool place.

Amazing Property

Our hosts took the time to connect well ahead of the stay to make sure we were accommodated and had all the details to access the property and checked in during our stay. They did an outstanding job. The property itself is incredible. It was exactly what we hoped for and more, with incredible natural surroundings, wildlife - birds and coyotes, hiking and bouldering, and many other fantastic amenities. The house was great too. We got to enjoy dinner around the dining room table and games in the living room by the fire. We made use of the BBQ, fire pit, hot tub, horse shoes and enjoyed the star lit skies in the evenings. I highly recommend and would love to come back in the future!

Great property! Highly recommend.

We had a wonderful trip to Joshua Tree and stayed at Sweet Rock Ranch. We had a group of 8 of us and the property was great with accomodating a large group. It was very nice to just relax at the property when we weren't out hiking. John was proactive and available when needed with any questions or concerns. I would highly recommend!

As longtime desert enthusiasts, we have stayed at many rentals in the area and noted the many things that we appreciate in a good rental experience. After an extensive search, we found this uniquely wonderful property and spent two years customizing every detail in order to create what is now one of the best rental properties in the entire high desert.

The house was recently remodeled comfortably rustic, with a nice representation of work from local artists. Loaded with amenities and guest features, including a fully equipped new kitchen, wi-fi, a desert library, vinyl collection & player, games & dvds - and the most sublime hot tub experience in the high desert!

Every window on the property has a view to other-worldly ancient rock formations.

There are both gas and charcoal BBQs, for your grilling preference.

The main house has central AC & heat, plus an evaporative (swamp) cooler. There are efficient air/heat units in both of the cabins.

The Lookout Lounge has a propane fire table and very cozy seating.
