We spent a delightful month in this apartment in the heart of the Presqu’Ile in Lyon. It is a perfect situation for a couple wanting to explore the many joys of life in Lyon.
All the amenities are well thought out and work well. The apartment is very clean. The bed is comfortable. The couch and dining area provide good seating and dining. The shower works well. There is a separate room for the toilet. The kitchen is well equipped for breakfasts and light meals. There are plenty of dishes and towels. The washing machine works well. There are lovely French windows which open to let in light and fresh air. There is no AC, but there is a fan which works well. The building stays cool even in hot weather.
It is the neighborhood that really shines. You are within walking distance of all the cultural activities in Lyon. There is a metro stop right outside the apartment. Just past that is a large Monoprix with an excellent grocery store in the basement. The apartment block faces a pedestrian mall which has many fine shops. Bromard the Salumeria, and Boulangerie les Frangins were two of our favorites for fresh food daily. The fresh market on the Soane is just a couple blocks away. It is open everyday until 12:30PM and features fresh produce from all over France. Saturday is the biggest market day, and on Mondays they have clothing and antiques. There are at least a hundred restaurants in the area. We had several good meals dining out. Le Musee, Le Nord, Le Cafe des Negociants, Le Comptor des Copains, and Cafe Merciere were our favorites. It would take us a year to try them all.
Lyon is a beautiful walking city. Old Lyon is just a few blocks away across the Soane, and in the other direction it is less than a kilometer to cross the Rhone to an excellent area of Riverboat cafes. We enjoyed sipping wine and watching the river flow by more than once.
There were excellent nightly free music concerts just up the street at the Opera Underground (Le Festival du Peri Style). We also enjoyed a concert at Les Nuits de Fourviere, which are held all summer in a 2000 year old Roman amphitheater.
Finally, the host Monique is wonderful. She went out of her way to make sure we had an enjoyable visit. She welcomed us at the apartment with many nice touches when we arrived. She came to see us off as well. She is the kind of excellent host that makes this type of rental such a good experience. Merci Beaucoup Monique!
