We are Carl and Vicki, your hosts. We consider you our guests and believe that you will feel that in our home. San Diego has been our home for nearly 50 years. Carl was born in Kansas where he spent is early years; Vicki is a transplant from Los Angeles. We have been married 40+ years, have 2 daughters, and 5 g-kids. We love the beach community as well as the local mountains where we have a cabin in the woods of Mt Laguna. Our goal is to spend as much time as possible in Ocean Beach, riding bikes, entertaining friends and family in OB, and generally enjoying the ambiance of the location. So, in order to make all this happen, we make our home available to guests like you and work very hard to make your stay as nice as we make it for ourselves. The expectation should be very high and we will not fail to meet or exceed that expectation. We are Padres season ticket holders as well as the Old Globe, so do not hesitate to take advantage of our connections for tickets, as available, from the venues. We are very kid friendly as you will see with all the baby furniture included with your stay as well as the family centric movies provided free of charge downstairs in the game room. As a student in the late 60's, Carl lived for a time on Lotus St. in Ocean Beach. Many years have passed since then but the urge to return to the beach community has always been there. He and Vicki rented a Vrbo condo and spent a full month cycling from property to property in Mission, Pacific, and Ocean Beaches. During this time we noted how the beach cities dealt with crime, noise, exhibited pride of ownership, dealt with homeless problems, quality of restaurants, entertainment, public drunkenness, friendliness of the locals, and ease of parking. OB and this property won hands down overall as the place to be. It provides a sanctity away from the crowds when you need it but is located so close to everything with road outlets to the North and East depending on the time of day for travel by car. This home also has amazing character, warmth, and sight lines that make it difficult to leave. A whole home Wifi with AT&T fiber optic connections offers quick upload and download speeds and more bandwidth for an always-connected household. Evenings on the deck are special as are the times lying in bed listening to the birds, seals, and sounds of waves carried by an ocean breeze that prevails directly in our direction. The neighbors have the same love of this special, unique location. Next door is the owner of a local restaurant. The other neighbors can be expected to give you a wave and are always happy to give directions or answer questions that you may have about San Diego in general or Ocean Beach in particular. They know you picked your location after very careful consideration. Vicki and I know that as well and appreciate you and your family for choosing to stay in our home. This property is newly remodeled (June 2019) and is central to many of the most popular sites and entertainment venues in the greater San Diego area. The cover of our guest guide, found on the living room table, has 25 points of interest for you to consider during your stay. Of the 25, 14 are less than 10 miles away. The beach in OB is just a start. You also have Mission and Pacific beaches just a short bike ride away as well as rental facilities for motor boating, paddle boarding, surfing, kayaking, jet skiing, and sailing on Mission Bay. All these venues can be seen from the deck at your house! The beauty of the location, as mentioned above, is the serenity that you will find when it comes time to relax and get away from the hustle and bustle of 'the beach crowd'. Vicki and I love people in general, but after the crowds have been drinking for several hours it is really nice to be above all the noise and commotion that is generated from midnight to 2 am as they make their way home. We have made the walk home late at night and find the area safe, well lit, and if necessary, very easy and inexpensive to hail an Uber for the short ride home. Parking is always a very difficult problem in the beach area but not at our/your house! You will have 2 tandem spaces in the driveway and always ample parking in front of the home. Do not miss the chance to stay here during the 4th of July holidays when fireworks are displayed all over the beach community and can be viewed from your own private deck. Missed the 4th? No problem, you also have a view of fireworks during the summer from our close friends at Sea World only 3 miles away; better yet spend an evening at their park and see the fireworks from the comfort of your own seat inside Sea World.
