The Space:

Plaza Suite is the ideal basecamp to explore Old San Juan history, restaurants, shopping, and nightlife. The suite has 1 bedroom, 1 bathroom, and a modern and simple kitchen. The unit is on the 2nd floor and the building has an elevator and stairs.



You will love the combination of old-world colonial structural design and amenities such as air conditioning throughout the villa, wifi, TV, and modern yet simple decor.



The location is ideal for those looking to be close to the action in Old San Juan, next to restaurants, a plaza and all that you need to see in this beautiful historic city. The suite comfortably sleeps 2 adults in the bedroom's king bed. 



This unit also includes a washer and dryer - something that is hard to find in a one-bedroom in Old San Juan. A great amenity for an extended stay.

LIVING AREAS



As soon as you enter the Colonial Suite you are welcomed by an open concept layout encompassing the kitchen, dining room, and living room.  There is a dining table directly beside the kitchen. The kitchen is equipped with a stovetop, microwave, and fridge, ideal for an extended stay. There is also direct doorway access to the building's courtyard. 



This unit also includes a washer and dryer - something that is hard to find in a one-bedroom in Old San Juan. A great amenity for an extended stay.



 

SLEEPING ARRANGEMENTS



Colonial Suite has one bedroom that comfortably sleeps 2 adults. The spacious bedroom has a king bed, air conditioning, and access to a full bathroom. The bedroom is appointed with fresh linens for a good night's sleep.



PLEASE NOTE: The bedroom TV features a SMART TV, just for the use of apps like (youtube, Netflix, etc)



PACK AND PLAY (SUBJECT TO AVAILABILITY): We can leave a complimentary Pack and Play at the property upon request. This should be requested upon booking or no later than 5 days before arrival. Pack and Plays are subject to availability.

 



KITCHEN



Colonial Suite kitchen is small but comfortable and was just updated with new cabinets and countertops. The kitchen has a coffee maker, stovetop, microwave, and fridge. Best of all, it has exclusive doorway access to the building's Spanish traditional courtyard. We include enough bounty, trash bags, and dish soap for guests to comfortably start their stay. There is also a washer and dryer in case you need to get some laundry cleaned.    





GETTING AROUND



If staying within the general San Juan/Metro area, we recommend moving around via Uber. **This property does not include parking.**



IMPORTANT: If you need to rent a car, there are various paid parking garages around Old San Juan - pricing varies as some charge by the hour and others have a flat rate. 





LOCATION



Staying in Old San Juan is a truly unique experience filled with charm and character. From the property, you can comfortably walk anywhere within Old San Juan. The apartment is located on one of the quieter streets but still steps away from all the action. We recommend taking a cab from the airport and using Uber or taxi while you stay at Old San Juan. Renting a car is not necessary unless you are planning on road tripping. This is a truly walkable location with everything you need a short walk away. The apartment does not include parking. Nonetheless, there are convenient parking lots close to the apartment.  



There are many things to do in the surrounding areas, here are some of our favorites, all within walking distance:



Explore the El Morro Fort. There are daily tours of the fort and the large green areas have spectacular ocean views. Take a tour, have a picnic, and fly a kite. This is a must-do.

Explore the iconic Calle San Sebastian nightlife. There is a large assortment of bars on this strip which is a favorite among locals on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays.

Breakfast at “La Bombonera”. This is a Puerto Rican landmark well known for its locally inspired breakfast and pastries.

Savor Stuffed Avocado. Healthy and "trendy" spot where you can create your own avocado bowl.

Take a stroll around “Paseo La Princesa”, a waterfront walkway which you can start off at El Morro and finish of the walk with a rum tasting at Princesa Gastrobar at the end of the trail.

STARTER AMENITIES



At West Indies Vacation Rentals, we strive to provide top-notch amenities, ensuring our guests feel at home during their stay.



All properties come with freshly laundered bed linens and towels. We provide 2 bath towels per guest and 1 beach towel per guest.



We provide a set of disposable essentials to help you get your vacation started comfortably. These include:



- 1 set of hotel-size soap and shampoo (per bathroom)

- 3 garbage bags

- 1 roll of paper towels

- 2 rolls of toilet paper (per bathroom)

- 1 dish soap

- 1 dish sponge

- A small amount of laundry detergent



Please note that we do not provide unlimited disposable amenities. It is the guest’s responsibility to review what is included in the property and stock any additional items needed for the duration of the stay.



Most properties also include at least 2 beach chairs and an ice cooler. You may reach out to us 5 days before arrival for confirmation.





HOUSE RULES



RENTAL AGREEMENT: All bookings require a signed Short-Term Rental Agreement, which will be sent upon confirmation of your reservation. Guests must upload a valid photo ID (no selfies) that matches the name on the credit card used for the booking. The agreement must be signed within 48 hours of booking or prior to entering the property, whichever comes first. Check-in instructions will not be provided until the agreement is completed.



NO SMOKING: Smoking is not permitted anywhere on the property. A $500 smoking fee will be charged if this rule is violated.



NO PETS: While we are pet lovers, pets are not permitted at the property at any time. A $300 fine will be charged if this rule is violated, and guests may be asked to leave the property.



QUIET HOURS: Quiet hours are from 10:00 PM to 8:00 AM. Please be mindful of noise during these hours out of respect for nearby residents/neighbors.



UTILITIES (WATER & ELECTRICITY): In the event of an interruption to water or electrical service, the host is not responsible for hotel, alternate lodging, or transportation expenses. If service is interrupted for more than 3 hours, guests may cancel the reservation and request a refund for unused nights only. Nights already used are non-refundable.



MAXIMUM OCCUPANCY: The maximum occupancy is 2 adults/children at all times, including visitors.



OCCUPANCY ENFORCEMENT: Occupancy limits are strictly enforced. Exceeding the maximum occupancy may result in immediate cancellation of the reservation or removal from the property without refund.



TOWELS & LINENS: Towels and linens are provided for normal use only. Please do not use them for cleaning or allow them to be stained with food, grease, or other substances. Charges may apply for damaged or stained items.



TOWEL HANGING: Please do not hang towels or any other items to dry in areas visible from outside the unit. A $100 community fine may apply if this rule is violated.



SUBLETTING: Subletting or re-renting the property is not permitted.





CHECK-IN / CHECK-OUT TIMES



Check-in begins at 4:00 PM, and since this is a self-check-in unit, you can arrive anytime after that.



If you’d like to check in earlier, please contact us the day before your arrival, and we’ll confirm availability. When possible, early check-in typically starts around 11:00 AM. Please note that early check-in is subject to availability and depends on our cleaning schedule.



If you need a guaranteed early check-in, you will need to book from the night prior to ensure the property is ready upon your arrival.



Check-out time is at 11:00 AM. For late check-out requests, please reach out the day before your departure, and we’ll be happy to check availability for you.





TRAVEL INSURANCE / HURRICANE SEASON



We strongly recommend that all guests purchase travel insurance, not only during the peak months of Hurricane Season (July to October) but also throughout the year to cover unexpected events such as travel delays, pandemics, or other unforeseen issues.



Travel insurance is inexpensive and can reimburse travelers for most expenses associated with canceling travel outside of the cancellation window; however, coverage will depend on the policy purchased. Make sure to review and understand the options before purchase.

Being in the middle of old town,this was a quiet and relaxing accomodations with full access to the fort, restaurants, and other places of interest. Just a bit close to the " cruise traffic", but most of old town is.

Great location and property marketed exactly as is. Great communication and responsiveness from the property manager. I will plan to stay here again in September when business brings me back.

Great time in Old San Juan

We enjoyed our stay in Old San Juan so much. This adorable VRBO is in a great location, conveniently located to everything, even reasonable parking if you need it. Lots of little extras to get to the beach, like towels, chairs, a cooler. The host was attentive and helpful and responsive. My only complaint is with the shower and plumbing. The water pressure and faucet combo wasn't good. If you can deal with a quick shower and don't mind fussing a bit, the price is right.

Positives and negatives

We enjoyed most of our time at this rental. Some of the directions were confusing regarding the AC and whether or not to leave on or off when you left the property. It also has a courtyard outside the unit where you can hear people who come out to that area and where they can hear you if you’re in the bathroom or bedroom which would have been nice to know. The bathroom had someone else’s hair on the floor but other than that it was pretty clean. Parking is tricky and the lot isn’t especially close (at least not the reasonably priced ones, the closer one was 25 just for the 1 day we parked there). We did like being close to the nightlife and food options. We felt safe and comfortable there. I did leave my clothes in the drawers on accident when we left and the host stated she found them and would mail them to me at my expense which I was very appreciative for, but then stopped responding. So that was really disappointing since I had lots of new clothes that got left behind. I understand that was my fault but when they agreed to mail them and confirmed they had them I felt so relieved just to ultimately be ghosted. They were agreeable to a later check out which I appreciated so want to acknowledge the good too. Really just wish there had been follow through on what they said they’d do. Lesson learned!

Great Location

This property was absolutely perfect - centrally located in Old San Juan so everything was in easily walkable distance, and even though we had to park in the Doña Fela parking deck down the street we never had any issues finding parking there. The place was clean, relatively quiet, and access to the patio area was adorable. The only reason I gave this property 4 instead of 5 stars was that the showers in the apartment are inconsistent. We would have freezing cold water one minute, and then it would be scalding the next, but that’s almost to be expected from an older building like this one. Just take quick showers and you’ll be fine!

Perfect place to stay in and explore Old San Juan

Great location to explore one of the most romantic cities in the world, Old San Juan. You will be right in the center of everything with short walking distance to some of the best restaurants, and main attractions. You are also a short walk from to grocery stores. The apartment is very clean. It has a washer and dryer, a nice kitchen, and a nice shower with plenty of hot water. The building is safe with a gated entry and has an elevator. While our specific unit didn't have a window to San Francisco street (usually a great bonus) it can be a blessing in disguise as it keeps you from the street noise and guarantees a good night's sleep. The staff is very responsive to questions and they keep you informed as soon as you book the apartment of everything you need to have a great stay in the apartment and at Old San Juan. We highly recommend this place and it will be one of out to go places when we travel to Puerto Rico.

Looking a little bedraggled

The property manager was very attentive, and tried to fix the things we reported asap. However it's important to be honest for the sake of other HomeAway users. One of the two lights in the bath was out; the toilet leaked, so it partially refilled (rather noisily) every 4-5 minutes. The manager immediately sent over a handyman, who replaced the lamp, but was unable in two attempts to fix the toilet problem. The tableware was incomplete (only one coffee cup in the apt.) and utensils were incomplete and one pan so warped it could not be used on the stovetop. Iron was there, but no ironing board. The JBL bluetooth speaker was very convenient, but the power cord was missing (we bought a new one and left it there.) Because the interior courtyard is so narrow, there is virtually no daylight that comes into the apt. The single window is in the bedroom, and the shutters are fixed, with the glass inside, so opening them means if you open to the light you also open to the heat. Brilliant sun outside, and you have to keep all the lights on. Still, the location is absolutely perfect if you are exploring Viejo San Juan. Next trip we will make sure we get a balcony or terrace rather than an interior courtyard.
