Welcome to The Lake Cabins Resort! Built in the early 1940s, our resort is steeped in local history and offers a perfect blend of rustic getaway charm and modern amenities.

Please Note: The resort consists of two separate rental options: The Lake House and the 6 individual log cabins. This listing is specifically for the rental of Cabin 3.

Resort Amenities & Waterfront
The Beach: Enjoy 100 feet of pristine beachfront on the all-sports, 617-acre Fife Lake—voted the best inland lake in Northern Michigan. The water is shallow right off our dock, making it a comfortable spot for kids to swim.

Water Sports: Guests enjoy complimentary use of our kayaks and paddleboards. Boat rentals are also available for experienced boaters if you'd like to cruise the lake to spot local eagles and loon nests.

Seasonal Note: The beach area closes the last weekend in September, and docks are removed for the winter.

Accommodations:
Cabin 3 has two bedrooms plus one futon that convert to double beds. It is approximately 350 square feet and comfortably sleeps up to four adults or up to six guests if some are smaller children.

The Log Cabins: Fully restored authentic log cabins featuring updated, modern kitchens and premium upgrades—ideal for couples or smaller families looking for a cozy retreat.

The Location
Fife Lake sits right in the center of Northern Michigan’s best outdoor recreation. We are located just a short drive from Traverse City, Kalkaska, and Cadillac, with the Boardman River running to our north and the Manistee River to our south. Whether you are looking for hiking, biking, boating, or world-class fishing, you are right in the heart of it all.

Come relax, soak up some sun on our beach, and make your own memories at a historic Michigan resort!

Cute little log cabin near Fife Lake, perfect for our family of three with two bedrooms. Lake was lovely and wish we'd had time to use the kayaks or paddleboards! Close to some nice golf courses we were trying out. Friendly greeting and communication. Yes, the bathroom and shower are all one, but it worked fine, and we had that everywhere we stayed when visiting Nepal earlier this year. No biggy!

Everything was perfect. The family rented a number of the cabins and it was nice kayaking sitting by fire and just staying by the lake. Everything was clean and perfect we will be back definitely

Loved our cabin, rustic but perfect! Very clean and had all the essentials. Our grandchildren loved the beach. The kayaks were a plus. Will definitely be back.

We stopped in for a short weekend trip. Atmosphere was very relaxing. The beach area was nice, the cabins were well kept, and we got to chat with the hosts (who are great), and they were very helpful and responsive to questions we had! Would be fun to get a group of people and rent all the cabins down the road!

Being right on the lake was awesome for our family. The kids could swim and fish every night. Having the kayaks and paddle boards was an added bonus and we also took our kids around the lake on them. Hosts were great and friendly. We were also able to rent the pontoon boat for a night and had a blast on that. Many memories made and a potential spot to stay in the future!

Perfect place for families!

This is a great location for people with families! We have young children and I was actually able to relax while on a vacation because of the nice location and beach area. The beach area was set up great for people with young kids! Highly recommend!

Great lake cabin

Great place to stay. Beautiful views. The cabin was very clean and nice. The check in process was very easy. The owners are very kind and helpful. We decided to rent a boat and the price was very reasonable. Lots of things to do in the area. Overall Beautiful place to stay. Would definitely rent from them again.

I don't like negative reviews and I really don't want to write one, but an honest review is so helpful. I feel like the reviews on this property and the overall "9.8" rating were not accurate and really set us up for a somewhat disappointing weekend experience.While the cabin was clean, the bathroom was a really negative surprise; toilet right against the wall, making it very hard to sit on. The toilet sink and shower were in one open space of approx. 4' square. Mirror was at a 90 degree angle to the sink and the entire floor was sloped to the shower drain, making it very uncomfortable and awkward to use the bathroom at all.The beds were jammed into the bedrooms with very tight space on the end and zero space on the far side. I am 6' 2", tall, but not huge and my feet hung several inches off the end of the bed. The mattress was not comfortable at all. My wife and I had to sleep in separate rooms just to have enough space to lie down without feeling like we would fall off the edge of the very soft mattress!All in all, a clean room but that's about it. The cabins were described as remodeled and updated, but that was just not the case. The screen doors were super hard to latch and did not even have a handle.We have stayed in many VRBO's with lower ratings than these cabins and had wonderful experiences. Typically, anything over a 9.5 rating is excellent and the 9.8 we saw on this listing is hard to understand now that we have stayed there. This is an 8.5 in my book.

Our cabins are authentic 1940s cottages that have been thoughtfully updated while preserving their original character and footprint. Because of that, the bathrooms and bedrooms are smaller than those found in modern construction, and we strive to represent the layout accurately through our photos and descriptions. We were also surprised by the comments regarding the beds, as the mattresses have been recently replaced to improve guest comfort. As with any mattress, comfort is ultimately a matter of personal preference. We’re glad you found the cabin clean, as providing a clean and welcoming environment is one of our highest priorities. It’s also one of the reasons so many of our guests have rated their stays so highly, resulting in our 9.5 overall rating. Many visitors appreciate the charm and history of these vintage cabins and which is why we have repeat seasonal guests. We’re proud to offer an authentic Up North experience while continuing to make thoughtful improvements. We value all guest feedback and recognize that every traveler has different expectations. Good value for price

Very clean, small cabin. Bathroom super small (sit sideways on the toilet small). You are at the mercy of other guests for quiet after dark - if you like to turn in early and others don’t, this set up may not be for you.

We stayed in cabin 3, which is the smallest cabin offered. A little tight for our family of 5, but I was thankful it was available last minute. The beach was very nice, they had brand new sand, toys for the kids. The swimming area is a little busy with lifts and docks that aren’t displayed in the pictures - you kinda get the impression it’s open from the pictures, but there’s a perpendicular dock that somewhat enclosed the swimming area. This could be a good thing if you have very young kids (also, shallow in that area). The shower and bathroom are one unit, which is a little tricky to maneuver in , but had hot water, and good pressure. I would definitely stay here again, especially if I could grab another friend/family with kids to enjoy with. Very clean. Had a great outdoor area for each unit, with new picnic tables, and grills. Hosts were incredibly nice. Overall, a very nice last minute stay. Kayaks were a total plus, and host went above and beyond to help us get on the water with the littles. Thank you for your hospitality!

Fun weekend away

This was our 2nd time staying at the Lake Cabins resort. We go on an annual trip with 4 families with a wide range of ages of children (9 yrs to 20), and everyone had a wonderful time. The location is great, close to Traverse City. We did a couple of outings, but also spent a lot of time at the cabins. The lake is beautiful and there are lots of available kayaks and paddle boards to use. The kids enjoyed paddling down to the ice cream shop in town. The cabins are very clean and have AC, although mostly we were able to enjoy a nice breeze coming through the windows at night. The beds have been improved with nice memory foam pads on top, and this made a big difference for me! There are nice fire pits outside each cabin, but also a communal one which we mostly used, and has a great view overlooking the lake. We also rented the pontoon one day and were able to go out and enjoy a very nice shallow sandbar across the lake. All in all, we had a fantastic trip and are certain to be back! Thanks to Beckey and Jeff for providing a great location for us to visit.

We are a family of 6 with 2 littles and 2 pre-teens and we were able to make the small space work with a pack-n-play. Host were excellent, very friendly. We will definitely be back!

We had a wonderful stay! The cabin was clean, cozy, and perfect for our family. It had two comfortable bedrooms, a small but well-equipped kitchen, and a compact bathroom that had everything we needed. The location right on the lake was beautiful and made for a peaceful, relaxing getaway. The owner was incredibly kind and welcoming, which made our stay even better. If you’re looking for a quiet family retreat, we would definitely recommend staying here!

My wife and I choose this property due to the beach and waterfront access. The cabins are great and the water is clean. Fife Lake was awarded the cleanest lake in Michigan. Great fishing also.
