Playa Avellanas Treehouse • Walk to the Beach

Welcome to our Playa Avellanas Treehouse, with 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms on a beautiful, privately gated half-acre property, just a short scenic walk to the gorgeous white-sand beach out front through the neighboring world-famous mangrove boardwalk.

This is a truly unique tropical home, surrounded by beautiful gardens and nature. Both bedrooms have very comfortable beds with 1500-count Egyptian cotton sheets, ice-cold air conditioning, and Smart TVs, with extremely reliable high-speed WiFi throughout.

There is a fully equipped kitchen and a comfortable living room with a sofa bed and a Smart TV, along with plenty of indoor and outdoor spaces to enjoy. Outside, there are three oversized hammocks that are perfect for relaxing and taking in the tropical surroundings.

We are centrally located, making it an easy walk to a number of great nearby restaurants, bars, cafés, local shops, and two small grocery stores, making a rental car completely unnecessary.

Enjoy our beautiful beaches, incredible sunsets, and all the tropical nature surrounding us, where you will see monkeys, parrots, and lots of other amazing wildlife.

We’re happy to help arrange airport transportation, private drivers, tours, surf lessons, and surfboard rentals during your stay, and we include boogie boards with your rental free of charge.

Whether you’re coming for a week, a month, or spending the winter here in Costa Rica, we know you’ll feel completely at home.

The property has two other houses, each completely private and separate, sharing only the gated entrance.

We had an awesome time in this Robinson Caruso style treehouse. We loved how unique and authentic it was and the property was so beautiful. We spent a lot of time enjoying the beach out front. We came here to surf and really enjoyed the offshore winds and beautiful waves. The host was so easy to deal with and was so polite. Everything went so smoothly.

Really enjoyed our stay at this property again! The house was clean and comfortable, both bedrooms were great and everything worked as it should. AC was nice and cold and the kitchen and fridge were clean and worked perfectly. Loved all the screened windows and doors and the tropical feel of the place. Great location for walking to Avellanas beach too. Ben was super helpful. Would definitely come back!

We did not want to stay in a resort in Costa Rica. We wanted a more nature oriented vacation, and that's exactly what we got.First, Ben, the host was amazing! Anything we wanted/needed, he was there for us. You won't find a better host ANYWHERE!Second, the animals around were fantastic! I've worked with animals my entire adult life and that's what I wanted. We saw monkeys, macaws, parrots, mot mot and other brightly colored birds right from our balcony!!! The house itself was very nice. Again, not luxury accommodations, but everything you need. The beach was a 15 minute walk either down the road or over a very cool, but slightly awkward (some of the boards could use replacing, but were still stable) bridge through the mangroves. The beach itself was beautiful and uncrowded with shaded areas to sit. The beach restaurant/bar, Lola's, was fabulous! Overall, a great stay and perfect for nature/animal lovers like us!!

Ben was an amazing host! He was kind, welcoming and incredibly helpful with everything. We were fortunate to have a whole month there so we could really slow down and appreciate the Pura Vida spirit. We enjoyed our little "tree house" thoroughly. It felt very authentically Costa Rican, warm, earthy and full of heart. We spent at least an hour a day under the fans on the top porch in the Hammocks! We saw monkeys in our yard most days! The most incredible part of our stay was the magical Playa Avellanas and all of the friends we made there. We miss it already!!

Very good location for surf beach access. Its nice to see original Costa Rican houses are still available to stay at! The host was great with communication.

This was one of the most unique and memorable places we’ve ever stayed.The treehouse feels completely immersed in nature while still being comfortable and thoughtfully designed. Waking up to the sounds of the jungle, soft natural light coming through the windows, and seeing monkeys and parrots right outside was an experience we’ll never forget.The location was incredible — an easy walk to Playa Avellanas beach, restaurants, and local shops, but the property itself felt peaceful, private, and hidden away from everything.We loved the handcrafted details throughout the home. The carved artwork, tropical woodwork, and overall design made the space feel artistic, warm, and authentic to Costa Rica. It truly felt like staying somewhere special instead of a typical vacation rental.The beds were very comfortable, the AC worked great in the bedrooms, and the WiFi was strong enough for remote work and streaming without any issues.One of our favorite parts of the stay was relaxing in the hammocks after long beach walks and sunsets. The entire property has a calm energy that makes it easy to slow down and fully enjoy the experience.Ben was an outstanding host — extremely helpful, responsive, and knowledgeable about the area. He gave us great recommendations and made everything feel easy and welcoming from start to finish.If you’re looking for a peaceful, walkable, nature-filled stay in Playa Avellanas, this place is truly special. Kitchen was old, not well equipped, lighting poor, ants everywhere especially at night. There were no shops near by, you needed a car to get to them. The gordwalk was treacherous , old and dangerous for walking, wooden boards cracked, missing and installed far aoard. Beds were nice and clean but floors were old and looking not very clean. stoned wall in the bathrooms was rough, dirty and full of insects. Shower heads were poor.

The kitchen has a beautiful rustic aesthetic and is fully equipped along with many extras. The clients wanted a microwave but we offer toaster ovens as stated online. We just fumigated the whole house after they left and we do this regularly. I told them you can not leave food and crumbs out everywhere and you can not leave your screen doors open but they did anyway. We are in a dry tropical forrest surrounded by wildlife and if you leave your doors open and food out you are inviting a lot of critters inside. These clients were both in their 80s and needed a lot of unusual assistance and care day to day. When booking I told her that the boardwalk may be difficult if they have any knee or walking problems. Additionally, you can walk to the beach faster on a flat surface if you avoid the wooden boardwalk and follow the road. There are 2 small grocery stores, about 15 restaurants, 5 boutique shops, 2 French bakeries, etc within a short walking distance, all well under 5 to 10 minutes. The Tree House was built over 30 years ago. It is one of the first houses in this town and most of our clients love the ambience we have preserved. We are planning to replace the ceramic floor tiles of the house here shortly, as they do have some scuffs over the years. Myself and our entire staff bent over backwards for them the entire time. I even through her à birthday party with dinner and a cake and had her invite her friends. Different strokes for different folks.

Ben bring such a great host really makes this property. He checked in on us prior to arrival and throughout our stay with helpful info. He knew we were travelling with kids and left boogie boards out for us to use. He also learned it was our daughter's birthday and gave her a small gift. It is a rustic property and we appreciated the opportunity to stay somewhere so unique on our trip. We spent some time chilling in the hammocks with a lovely warm breeze blowing through. The walk to the beach along the boardwalk through the mangroves is very cool and the beach was fabulous for boogie boarding and sunsets.

Ben is a fabulous host! He was so friendly, very quick to respond to questions, and very helpful. He had great suggestions for restaurants, helpful tips for the area, and even helped set us up with a boat tour.The treehouse itself has a wonderfully rustic charm about it. We enjoyed our morning coffees on the upstairs porch, watching the birds and monkeys in the trees. The hammocks were a great place to spend a quiet afternoon. The bed was super comfortable. We enjoyed both eating out as well as cooking for ourselves. The kitchen has everything you need to cook meals if you choose to do so. As far as location goes, it is centrally situated. The beach is a short walk away, as are the restaurants. And even with this central location, it is a secluded little paradise. We absolutely loved it, and we would love to visit again!! Thanks Ben!

From our initial arrival, Ben was extremely welcoming and helpful. The property feels safe and is in a fabulous location for access to a stunningly beautiful beach. Ben set us up with easy beach access via the property across the street. We loved their restaurant and ate their several times. It was fun being amongst the howler monkeys! We spent 2 days on the beach and had reserved Lola’s restaurant at sunset (incredible!) and then booked beach chairs there the next day and enjoyed the amenities. Ben checked in on us several times and wanted to make sure we were enjoying ourselves and had everything we needed. He even offered to be on hand if any quandaries popped up in our next location during our stay in Costa Rica. The property is rustic and gives a jungle-like experience.

Great Treehouse

We stayed at the treehouse for 3 nights and had a wonderful time. The location is very close to the beach and local shops/restaurants. Ben was very good at getting back to me for anything we needed. Loved having the host cats hang out with us.

Another great visit!

We love staying here! It is a little rustic, but the location is awesome and it has everything you need to make meals and enjoy your time in the dry jungle! It was the perfect place to stay for our surf trip. The cats are very sweet and made my stay even better!

What a beautiful hidden gem this is! Ben is the most gracious and kind host you could ever wish for who truly delights in his guests’ happiness. He has an amazing lush and serene property that is walking distance from a stunning soft sand beach with consistent waves for all to enjoy. The house was lovely. It is a mix of a rustic experience with touches of luxury sprinkled throughout. It is clear that Ben takes pride in his property. Enough outdoor hammocks for each of us, incredible stone bathroom, a/c units in the bedrooms for a cool night of sleep. The area is lovely. People with carts selling snow cones on the beach, a mix of upscale and typical restaurants with a relaxed feel throughout. We hope to return one day.

Great Beach Getaway!

Me and a small group stayed at both places on Ben's property. The accommodations were nice for what I have experienced in Costa Rica. The property was a short walk to the beach and Ben's was a very responsive host!

Playa Avellanas Is a gorgeous, unspoiled beach and the walk to the beach is lovely

Miguel, the property manager responded promptly to every question and Mari, the cleaner did a great job. Everything we needed was provided and there were two fabulous Italian restaurants nearby. We had a great stay

close to the beach everything we needed.

everything was set up perfectly for us. we had a lot of questions and got a lot of help both in advance and during our vacation. would recommend for anyone who likes nature and relaxation.

Wonderful host!!

We really loved our stay at the treehouse, and Ben was a wonderful host. It was a perfect place to have two small families stay on the same property but in separate houses. The beach wasn’t far and Ben was very helpful with recommendations of restaurants and also in setting up our airport transportation. We had a wonderful Christmas vacation!

Surf and chill at Avellana Beach

Ben is an awesome host! He went above and beyond to make our stay as comfortable as possible. Walking through the boardwalk every day to the beach was a great experience. We really enjoyed our week there. Thanks Ben for everthing!
