Sanctuary by the Stream

Leave your cares behind and enjoy the beautiful Catskill mountains as you relax in your “Stream side Sanctuary,” a beautifully renovated two bedroom house just outside of Phoenicia, located on the lovely Stony Clove Stream.
The view from the property is wonderful year round, with the autumn colors being especially spectacular. We also have a terrific stream side patio and seasonal fire pit. It's available April through November and is fueled by propane. No wood needed and a great flame! (see photo)
The house has a fully equipped kitchen, spacious dining room that looks out at trees and flowers from a bow window, living room with gas fireplace and large screen TV, modern bathroom, two bedrooms, each with a queen size bed, air conditioning and heat throughout making it a cozy, comfortable retreat year round! The house has a phone, cable TV and wifi. A car is not necessary as the house is located just one mile form the bus station in Phoenicia. You can walk to town, eat in one of several restaurants, visit the quaint shops, or go fly fishing. A little over a mile will bring you to the Tanbark Trail and/or the trail up Tremper Mountain, both very popular spots, or walk about 2 miles to the Phoenicia Diner for a hearty breakfast or lunch. With a car, there are many sites and activities nearby. The Emerson complex has interesting shops as well as a restaurant, spa, and the world’s largest kaleidoscope! A short drive will bring you to hiking trails, lakes, ski centers, concerts, and other nearby towns to explore. Come and enjoy “your vacation home” without any of the work or responsibility

Beautiful spot

What a beautiful place to stay for the weekend! We spent Easter weekend enjoying nature on the creek! Kids loved all the birds. The house was clean, well maintained and comfortable . I appreciated having a nice hot shower at the end of a long day of hiking! The kids loved the fire pit by the Creek!

Such a great getaway

Gorgeous cottage with the most beautiful backyard

The location was beautiful and the host was very kind and reached out to ensure we were enjoying our stay! My only concern is that the place could have been cleaner, there was some debris on the floors and cobwebs and mold in the bathroom. Nothing worth complaining about in the moment, but definitely didn’t feel as clean as I would have expected.

Beautiful stay at “The Sanctuary”

The pictures don’t do this property justice, it is truly a beautiful sanctuary escape. The cottage was comfortable, spacious, sparkling clean, and had all the amenities. Communication with the owner was seamless. I will absolutely be back.

Incredible!!!

Everything was amazing, perfect view of the mountains as well as the stars at night. The creek and stream was beautiful and so peaceful listening to the flow of the water. Very relaxing and the cabin alone was so comfortable and felt like home away from home. Veronica was quick on responding to any question we had and made our stay worth wild and we will definitely be back next year.

Even better the 2nd time around

Spent another peaceful and relaxing weekend at the sanctuary. Sitting by the riverside was treated to the sight of a mama and baby black bear as well as a bald eagle. As always, we cannot wait to get back.

A true Sanctuary

We were promised a “ Sanctuary” and that’s exactly what we were delighted to find! The beautiful house exceeded our expectations, and being surrounded by nature and the stream was precisely the rejuvenating weekend we needed! Veronica struck the perfect balance of being available to answer questions, but also respecting our privacy during our stay. We’d highly recommend this cozy spot for your getaway!

Pure perfection for us.

October Surprise

Breakfast and pastries at Bread Alone in Boiceville, take out steak from Phonecian Steakhouse, railroad bed walks and comfortable streamside seating. Sweet spot. Perfect time out.

My husband & I stayed here to explore the area and celebrate our 10 year anniversary (close to home). The weather wasn’t the greatest, but we got to briefly enjoy the tranquil backyard. We would definitely return in warmer weather! Veronica was great to deal with and overall this was an A+ experience!

Fabulous Stay- Peaceful and Charming

We can’t say enough good things about this property Sanctuary. The owners were so responsive from start to finish and care for their property exceptionally well. Beautiful decor, everything there that you needed and more , We loved the open back yard down to the stream , the chance to recharge and hike in the beautiful surrounding mountains each day. 5+ stars for sure and hope we can get back another time from North Carolina . Great place!

We visited here in early April and very much enjoyed our stay. The house is clean, well-kept, and has a modern kitchen. Communication with the owner is easy and efficient, and check-in is easy. We were able to make use of the outside fire pit. The stream running near the house is very pretty. The indoor gas fire place is also great and simple to use. The nearby Bread Alone Bakery, which was recommended by the owner, is fabulous.

Highly recommend

I and my two teen age daughters stayed two nights at this lovely place which truly feels like a sanctuary. It was about 20 minutes from Woodstock and the Buddhist temple there. We did not go hiking, but there appeared to be many places in the area to hike. The place is actually nicer than the photos. Veronica was very helpful about places to grocery shop, etc. I hope to stay there again.

Lovely sanctuary

We spent a lovely post-blizzard, Covid-safe weekend in the Catskills. Veronica was responsive and clear in her communications and very helpful with the details she left behind. The quaint and cozy home is warm and quiet and we relaxed by the fire. I do wish I had known it was a propane and not a wood fire place as that was what my heart was seeking but in the end it was work and stress-free. The location is perfect and I can imagine enjoying it even more in warmer weather as the firepit by the creek looks so beautiful and appealing.

Great getaway in the Catskills and fantastic host!

Sanctuary by the Stream was perfect and exactly as described!! The host is so personable and sweet. Guests have a garden/patio area on the stream that feels very private and a large backyard with a fire pit. Carefully tended gardens and interesting sculptures add to the amazing views of the stream and mountains (front and back). Home is so cozy and clean and well stocked. Phonecia is an adorable town and a perfect base for a Catskills visit. We traveled back and forth to Woodstock - a quick and easy trip day or night. Rail Explorers and Woodstock Brewery in Phonecia are both fantastic. Veronica makes it so special and truly loves what she does. We can't wait to return!

I grew up in New York City but was always drawn to nature. After college I moved to Ulster County and have lived in Phoenicia for over thirty years. I never tire of of the beauty of this area that I am blessed to live in.

This property is unique because of the beautiful setting. There is a large open yard with about 150' of stream frontage. The setting is peaceful and lovely but within one mile of town. It is conveniently located to restaurants, shops, theaters, tubing, fly fishing, kayaking, swimming & skiing. There is a lovely stream side stone patio with a large seasonal propane fire pit that is beautiful!
